Favorite Video Game Stories

While the gameplay is always going to be the most important part of any video game, sometimes the stories are a nice touch too. What are some of your favorite stories in video games?

Mine are:

  • The Nicktoons Unite Games
  • Sonic and the Black Knight
  • Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time
  • Spyro: Year of the Dragon
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • Brohoof 1

Edit: I love the stories for "Batman: Arkham City" and "Marvel's Spider-Man".

I thought this said "Favorite Video Game Series" and I wrote something else. :twilightsheepish:

While Snake Eater is my favorite Metal Gear game, I’d still put MGS2 as my favorite story, especially since it feels more relevant now than it did when it first released. I like the meta narrative and how it even factors into the gameplay. I love Raiden as a character and arguably has Snake at his best, and features very underrated characters like Olga and Solidus. It’s the right kind of Kojima-Stupid. And the final 3rd of the game falling apart and freaking out with all the 4th wall breaking is one of my all time favorite moments in any game

Dark Souls has some of my favourite storytelling and lore of any piece of media. I remember when I was telling my boyfriend about the story, someone who has never played a Souls game, and he was immensely fascinated by it all. The entire basis of the story is rather depressing and bleak, but that's part of what makes it so unique. Not to mention, this is a Japanese-written story, and it is easily some of the greatest subtle storytelling of all time. I personally feel that the Japanese (usually) aren't exactly great as subtlety and way too often fall back on tropes and clichés. I have fallen out almost the entirety of Japanese anime as a result. The Souls games feel like the exact opposite. My one disappointment with it all? The severe under-utilization of Aldia. He wasn't even in the original version of Dark Souls 2, and is, I think, only mentioned ONCE in Dark Souls 3. I really wanted to know more about him, and hear his incredible voice again.
