Depends on your ethics. If the person giving it is fine with giving it, there should be no problem unless your manners, culture, or personal prerogative prevents you from taking it. In which case, don't. If you feel the need to pay them back regardless, then do what you feel is right. Just don't make a big scene over it.

 I genuinely don't know. I suppose it's okay. If it's your property, do whatever you want. You might want to research and find if the refrigerator can take it without getting damaged. And you may want to do that outside, just to make sure you don't make a bigger mess inside. But other then that, I don't see why it would be wrong.
