Im gonna start drawing Ponies, but i haven't drawn in YEARS (embarrassed face) any tips?

I used to be a decent drawer, I even had a picture in a Art show in 2003 but i haven't drawn anything "Good" since, apart from the one drawing im posting below. (i drew that about 2 years ago and was my last drawing.)

This is the only thing ive drawn in the past 5 years that wasn't a concept sketch for my Major Work at school:

any pointers or other help regarding drawing Ponies would be Greatly appreciated.

Yay. Always nice to pick up an old hobby again.

As the picture above shows, ponies are made out of circles, ovals, and other primitive shapes.

You can start by copying off of a reference, checking to see what places can improve, and then copying off of the same reference or moving onto another one.

After 3 or 4, you should be able to start drawing ponies without any references quite decently.

Good luck!

You sound exactly like me. I used to be a really good drawer and I actually had one of my drawings in an art contest in 2005. I havent put any effort into drawn anything in over two years but I decided to start drawing ponies about a week ago. I don't really have any advice to give you other than get an image in your head, visualize it on the paper, and then trace your visualization.

That look pretty awesome. My best tip as an artist is draw every day! Even if its a sketch or something simple just draw anything and everything. Ponies are simplified stylized horses so learning horse anatomy (or something more stylized like above) helps a lot too. =3

Start off by tracing vectors on a computer screen, color them in with colored pencils, and fine tip sharpie for pupils, eye lashes, and a bit of eye outline. Continue practicing from repeating those drawings, by looking at them, attempting to duplicate them, and then finally, trace the cutie marks and repeat.

If it works, then you can draw ponies, if it doesn't, keep practicing.
