Chat allows instantaneous connection with other members. And that thread can't give you any real-time conversation because? Both of the thread and the Chatroom can't function without any online members, and require more than two active members at a time. Seriously, all it takes was more people to look at that thread more often and we can have another whacky-smacky chat adventure! Just because there's only me, Libby, and Bluetrace on that thread, you condemn it to be unworthy
Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 I feel the chat attracts rowdy and unruly members. If I'm not mistaken, 40 or so members went inactive when the chat was killed. But these members were very freaking annoying (to put it lightly) and simply came for the chat. There was no noticeable activity or quality drop on the forums themselves post chat-nuking. No offense, but anyone who thinks the opposite is probably experiencing a placebo effect. I don't think the chat would bring any good. We still have a skype room, and the site doesn't exactly need another boost in mod numbers. 6 LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply. Talking in chat is incredibly fast, but if you reply to someone in the General Chat Thread, chances are their reply was at the very LEAST a few minutes ago and they could easily be offline by then. I, myself, loved the chat crowd, mostly because their behavior was in a room where everything they said would be gone from public view in a few minutes without some deep digging. No thanks, I like giving my opinion on the subject at hand. I'm entitled to do that, without inherently dooming myself to get into a heated debate. But that's not fair, you can't just say something and run away without discussing it! That makes your opinion irrelevant. http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">

TomokoKuroki 1,707 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 My main gripe with the chat was if too many people were in it it was a clusterbuck of messages. I could never keep up. Not to mention every time I went there it was filled with non sensible spam and quite a bit of swearing. Skype works much better as you can chat one on one with members you want to talk to in a instant kind of a feeling the chat provided. If you ask me, the chat system would need re-working if it was to ever come back (Which I don't think it would) such as multiple chat rooms so 50 people aren't spamming the same one. I went on the forums MORE when there was a chat here, and I felt a lot more connected to the members here too. I'm surprised that SO MANY people are AGAINST the idea of chat. Quite frankly, if you don't like it, um, don't join? But there's a good amount of us who miss it. In fact, we lost a LOT of quality members because a rival bored opened that had the same setup, but also a chat. http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">

NavelColt 22,880 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 (edited) But that's not fair, you can't just say something and run away without discussing it! That makes your opinion irrelevant. If I was a lone soul in the woods who ate mushrooms and lived away from everyone, and of whom had crazy ideals to overthrow the empire that nopony agreed with, then yes, my opinion would be completely irrelevant, because it isn't like anyone else shares those ideas, and is going to discuss or fight for it. That's not what's happening here, though. I share the same opinion, that chat isn't needed, as many other people. I wasn't here at all to experience the chat on this particular site, but I've experienced chat features on all sorts of forums before, and I've got a pretty good idea for how they work, and the social issues they can cause. That's what I had been saying earlier. Reading through many of the comments in here, it appears many other people, people who were in fact here, have the same opinion. So, if you view my opinion as irrelevant, that's your choice, but just because I'm not personally interested in debating the issue, does not mean that there isn't a collective opinion that the chat is not needed for reasons X, Y and Z. Starshine 16,333 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 (edited) Talking in chat is incredibly fast, but if you reply to someone in the General Chat Thread, chances are their reply was at the very LEAST a few minutes ago and they could easily be offline by then. Oh! I guess I mistook your point then. I guess I could sympathize if the lack of light-speed conversations in this forum disturbs you. But sadly, that chatroom also promotes what I could say 'Hooligans behaviour'. Even with chat-moderators online, people could easily broke the forum rules (talking about your fetishes and roleplay like mad), and run away with it. It might feels insignificant, but if those members are allowed to break the rules in daily basis while others in the main forum do not, no good will come of it. In the 1st post you recommend that the Chat brought back, and more mods are told to peel their eyes to oversee it. But what you might fail to notice, those additional mods are hardly moderator at all. They can move, close, and delete stuff, but they can't give out any warning or banhammer, and hardly ever online 24/7. They are more like "Janitors" You can't really expect them to stand ready at all times in the chat. You need to hire some college students for that. E: Damn I was too late ._. Goodnight then! E2 In fact, we lost a LOT of quality members because a rival bored opened that had the same setup, but also a chat. If those members were just here to spam the everloving hay out of the Chatroom, do we really need them? So when I joined here, I joined for both features, not one or the other. A chat only website is boring, and so is a forum only website. To me anyway. Also, chat is what kept me here, because it gave me new friendships. If you haven't noticed, I have myself, most of the new users have a tendency to drop out, and I think chat would be a deterrent from that. FLARE 952 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 Another thing about the chat was the fact that it was buggy. You had to have all your addons off for it to work half the time and sometimes it would send double messages and stuff. It wasn't worth the trouble it took to maintain it.

If they left the forums because we didn't have a chat room, then they aren't wanting to be part of a forum. They want a chat room. Honestly with the other forms of communication between members and the Skype group. It slightly makes chat redundant. Why can't the "chat bronies" (For a lack of a better term) be content with skype. It is literally almost the same thing, only skype is better. It truly is I am sorry. It does the same function as the chat, and offers so much more. Now if you aren't allowed to download it, I'll sympathize with that, but other than that reason skype should suffice. Dragonshy 2,305 June 30, 2012 Share June 30, 2012 (edited) I feel that with everything going on, I should give my opinion. Well, I personally loved the chat. I think that it provided a great way to chat with others and get to know people with real-time talk and not having to wait 1-5 minutes to get a response in a message. Also while I'm on that subject, I would like to say that messages have now been a bit excessive due to the chat being removed because of people wanting to talk without having to post on a thread. I think that the chat had some "bad" things about it, but it was still great. Here is a pros and cons list that I made in my opinion of the chat: PROS: Easy to chat with multiple people on the forums at once, easy to chat with one person at once, good to share your art/music/videos without spamming messages/status'/threads, good to have a little fun and goof off, good to express your feelings and talk to sympathetic people without making an entire thread about it, fun to make little polls and such, and it was a fun feeling to talk to people in general. CONS: It occasionally got obnoxious for a few moments. That's my opinion. Edited June 30, 2012 by Dragonshy 2 Yeh Want to know how to get more page views? Click here.
