Post-Whoring

Boxxi The Brony

Recommended Posts

I think everyone likes to see there post counter go up, but spammers post just for that reason, spam for fun, spammers in my eyes are people who post chain type stuff, post whores are people who only practically LIVE to rank up in the forums, yes they do both get satisfaction from it.

So you just completely went against your OP.

Good.

I dunno, you were the one complaining about it too, you tell me.

You think it is stupid, so enlighten us.

And the OP is confused between a spammer and a whore.

Then apparently I have misunderstood and somehow pissed you off and I apologize for that.

No, you just had a severe misunderstanding, and angered Crona x3

It's all ok now, you see my point.

You're escaping your own point.

Post whoring is someone posting for SATISFACTION of posting.

Spamming is for getting a new rank, no satisfaction.

The post whore is getting mad? xD

I don't really care. At all. This thread is very very silly.

For me, I try my best to make my posts worth reading.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I always get bothered by the fact that I only have one sentence in a post. Which makes me go through a lot of editing that post sometimes. :P

But honestly, I don't care, as long as the people posting aren't just randomly spamming stupid messages.

And the OP is confused between a spammer and a whore.

Post Spammer:

Likes to post a lot of posts, so likes to see a high post count.

Post Whore:

Likes to see a high post count, so likes to post a lot of posts.

There really isn't much of a difference. SOMETIMES, the Post Whore will have, on average, better quality posts, but not always.

Post whores can actually contribute to the topic AND they like posting....

Spammers just make random off-topic posts to annoy others....

Crona, let's not spend all day arguing semantics here. I'm quite sure we all know what the OP is referring to even if we're not entirely sure what to call it. ;)

I just hate when people randomly post three word things in the forum saying stuff like "lol waffle power" with no grammar so it looks more like "lel werkfle perer"

From experience, people who type 3 words in into a post is only newer people, either since they have never been on a forum before or they REALLY want to get out of blank flank. It does get really annoying.

If you see any of this, report the post(s) in question and they'll be taken care of. If a particular member does a lot of it, we'll mod-queue them - that tends to have one of two outcomes:

  • The member is so annoyed with none of their posts making it to the live site that they leave and never trouble us again.

  • The member takes it as a sign that it's time to improve the quality of their posts dramatically and becomes a great member.
I've seen both happen. :)

There was a filter introduced to limit the amount of posts that could be posted at fixed intervals (I think it was 15 seconds per post). That way, post whoring could be kept to a minimum even if it was on-topic and of decent quality. if anything, that encourages people to make lengthier and descriptive posts that could obviously be of more high quality compared to some of the more... shorter posts.

That filter has always been in place, and it's 60 seconds.

Post whores gotta post, so they can get their, satisfaction

Anyhow, as long as the posts sticks to the subject i have no problems with it.

But i know a few people who can get really random and start posting random crap that noone really cares about then just them.

I never report it because i'm pretty sure nothing will happen if i do.

I'm not sure what gave you the idea that nothing will happen if you report something. Why don't you give it a try?

I could post some screenshots of the report centre if you don't believe me when I say that we review each and every single report. There's a reason we encourage people to use the report system so much, and that's because it's the most efficient way to notify everyone with the ability to take care of something to do so.

This is quite the nice place , it just seems people are making there own definition for post whoring , your counter has nothing to do with it so your OP was correct . and you are right post whoring is wrong.

Ah, that's even better, then. That really puts the clamps down on the amount of spam-ish posts on the site.

Urban Dictionary. Eeyup, must be true then.

Most of these 'post-whores' have actually been members for a very long time, so I doubt they are trying to get past the Blank Flank (Newbie) stage.

I do believe you and the team go through all the reports its just that i might see something as spam when others don't.

A prime example would be if 2 people from all of a sudden starts to talk to eachother and with that maiking about 5 annoying posts that has nothing to do with the subject or the rest of the members.

If this is a valid reason to report someone i guess i will in the future.

Both.

It dosen't really matter, a conversation shout not be brought up in a thread.

Note: It's fine if you quote something that actually makes sense. But there are a a/few member(s) who can be really off-topic. Thank god for the ignore option.

Idealistically, people would post and participate in threads that they can contribute to in a thoughtful way. They'd form opinions, voice their views, share their insight, etc. Seeing a bunch of posts like these are a delight, as long as they are relevant and logical. I'd only get annoyed by someone spamming nonsensical things.

It's all about quality, not quantity!

While we don't ban short posts outright, you'd have to make sure that it's on topic and not of a one-word response (or anything vague) as otherwise, it's highly subject to deletion possibly without warning. I personally would recommend everyone to at least try to make their posts longer, as it almost always provides more depth to discussions at hand, but of course you shouldn't do this if you feel that you have nothing else to contribute to.

> 800 word rebuttal with link to 147 page report = 0 brohoofs

I rest my case.

The two types of posts I get the most brohoofs on are the ones that are a paragraph to three paragraphs giving my opinion on a topic, or posting pictures in any number of the picture threads. I snatch up your case and replace it with my own. Not all short posts are brohoofed and not all long posts aren't brohoofed. It may seem that way from where one individual is looking from, and I may not see the lack hereof of them that you do, but that goes vice-versa as well.

If it's relevant or thoughtful or contributing, then it's fine. Frequency of posts is irrelevant. Contribution and relevance, is what is relevant.
