Instead of doing a "derpy hooves episode" or a "Vinyl scratch episode"

They should make a episode with backstorys or just mini storys on a bunch of backround ponies! Like it would have mini storys/backstorys for derpy, Dj-Pon-3 and octavia, Lyra and bonbon and maybe others. Like that episode in Avatar, The tales of ba sing se? If you dont watch Avatar, that episode of it just has little storys on all the characters.

I think that background characters should stay in the background.

 

I wouldn't want them to have different personality's from the ones that we, the fans have created for them. They wouldn't be as cool if we knew everything about them. That's my opinion.

I agree with you. Background ponies are fun because we know so little about them. If they did an episode and it turns out they are different than we thought, it would be kind of disappointing. I think the writers will throw them around to keep us entertained, most definately.

 

Seriously, I flipped out at the end of the Canterlot wedding episode when Pinkie brought out Vinyl to start the party. But yeah, beyond just being reused by the writers and animators, I woulnd't want them to do anything else with them. Let the fans have their fun, I say

Actually, that would be worse. Why? Simply because everyone has their own interpretation of the characters and in the end, not everyone would be satisfied with the result. Also, I wouldn't want Lyra to be obsessed with humans in the show.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I am not the type who speculates how the background characters really are, so an episode for them wouldn't be that bad in my taste. But as it seems many bronies likes to speculate, so it would probably be best not to do an episode.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Maybe it's more of a personal preference thing. I'm not against a minor speaking role at all, I'd be completely fine with that.

 

My train of thought about her having a background and all that is simply because I think fans enjoy that idea that she doesn't have one. Using these characters in fanfics and such is interesting because writers are free to make up their own stories for the background ponies. While I'm sure it wouldn't destroy that base at all, it would place some limits. Of course, it's not a big deal, for me anyway. If she does get an episode, I'm sure it will be great and utterly enjoyable. I'm just under the impression that they should let the fans have the background characters is all, simply a personal opinion.

That sounds like an actual episode. That could be a fun and interesting thing, but maybe they could be asking the background characters about something that's occurring in the town so that it doesn't give them a particular personality.

I want them to give them personalities, I think they'd make for great episodes. The argument that some fans have created personalities for them themselves is a valid reason to keep it the way it is for sure, but you've gotta ask how many people actually feel that way and actually put in the thought to create a story and personality about them?

 

For a lot of fans like myself I think they're just cool background characters that are currently an empty slate with a lot of potential. Also I think expanding on these characters personalities will be necessary in future episodes in order to branch out from the friendship of the main characters as I believe they've already largely fulfilled the original story plot of learning about what it means to be friends.

I think the writers may be cautious about upsetting the community if they did an episode based off a character. Then again, as far as I know most of the fans were happy when Derpy had a speaking role, so perhaps they will be willing to try it again every now and then just for short snippets at a time. I don't think there should be a whole episode dedicated to a background pony, however it would be nice to see some of the Mane 6 interacting with them more often. I would love a Derpy and Rarity episode XD

In short, no to episodes about a particular pony, but if the pony had some sort of involvement with the main cast I don't think there would be a problem

While an episode like this could be interesting, it could also end up in complete disaster and fan outrage. Personally, I'd be against it, unless it was VERY vague, generic getting-to-know the citizens episode. That way, it wouldn't hurt the fan image of the characters, but it would still give out some kind of information we wouldn't know otherwise.

One of the problems everyone seems to have with doing that would be the characters wouldn't be like we made them. But the writers and hasbro know about the main personalities that bronies have given them so even though not everyone could be happy with their personalities most people would be and you can never please everyone.
