Bronium 512 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 I was thinking about our fandom and what it is and just realized something awesome about it. It's really hard to generalize us, if you observe even just two bronies. This is what I dawned upon. The more and more I see of the Brony Fandom, the more and more varied everyone turns out to be. There are the geeks, the jocks, the artists. Really, you got a whole high school and more here. We are all so different. Our religions, our hobbies, our personalities. Everything is just so different. And that's freaking awesome. It's like the reason we have sex. To have a varied gene pool. I mean yeah, you really shouldn't generalize anything, but let's say you're trying to generalize the fandom from two bronies. You might have a white male atheist who is a science nerd. And the other might be a Asian christian who is an multi-instrumentalist musician. (I know they can have very similar personalities, but when you generalize, you aren't observing them forever, you're making a quick inaccurate assessment) How would you generalize that? They are so completely different. And that's just from a very quick glance. There could be so many things about them that is different. The best thing about our fandom is how different we are. Which sounds stupid. Strength in unity, right? But the fact we are so different makes us stronger because we are able to overcome anything thrown against us as someone will have an ability to do it. That's just my humble opinion though. What do you think is the best part about the fandom? 1 This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree? Fizz. 1,078 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 We're people who watch a TV show and talk about it. We're not like a political group or something. 1 http://alt="img-3411728-1-kQpW0ME.png">
King Otrepony 27 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 That with all of the differing personalities there is something to please everyone whether it be just the show or reading the most obscure clopfic on fimfiction, listening to the many songs we have put out, or replying to topics on this forum. 1 Rainbow Dash: Alright, now these games will determine which one of you has the most important qualities I'm looking for in a pet. Speed, agility, guts, style. Coolness. Awesomeness. And radicalness. Twilight Sparkle: Aren't those last three all the same thing? Rainbow Dash: You would think that, Twilight. And that's why you would never qualify to be my pet.
Ethan Pow 332 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 The community is a source that brings people of different subgroups together... and some hate that... out of cooperation and acceptance we can really go far. Even when the community is hated and bashed by many media outputs I am pretty happy this group remain strong. If we even can look past all the clopping and sexual content ANY fandom will really have... I think we can improve the world a bit more. 4 I Run and Operate Alicornradio
NewCalamity 3,454 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner. This is an automatically generated message, by the way. 1 Ob's stürmt oder schneit. | Whether it storms or snows. OptimisticNeighsayer 478 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 First off, how is the inability to generalize any two fans of the show different than any other fandom? I'm sure other fandoms are apt to create so much art, see different things in the show, have people of differing points of view, etc. There have been studies that seem to show significant personality differences between fans of the show and non-fans (or at least those that don't literally identify as "brony", but I don't think that's what the studies meant at all), showing higher levels of agreeableness and lower levels of neuroticism (from the Five-Factor Personality tests), meaning that while some fans may be very disagreeable or neurotic they are more of the exception. One can not simply take two bronies, observe that they have different personalities, and say "I give up" in trying to find trends in their personalities and perhaps even tastes. Perhaps our community just seems to be premised on a tighter bond than perhaps other fandoms, due in part perhaps to the Internet culture, and the trends in personalities we share. I've never scored exceptionally high on agreeableness, pushing at low-average to average, but I still find that the people are generally nicer and more open about themselves and their likes, desires, and fears. For me, it's just that of all the fandoms out there, the Brony fandom seems to be the most inspired to go beyond even what is in the show-- whether it is to find it as a funny take on learning how to make one's way in the world and live among people or as a jumping point to create art or even philosophize on their own terms.
