gaming And so, I can add Final Fantasy XII to my "games beaten" list

When I first played the game and got a ways into it I thought I was never gonna be able to beat it, the difficulty was just so wonky that I thought there'd be some major jump in difficulty near the end but I ended up doing fine with some tips and tricks from the FFXII boards on Gamefaqs.

The final boss was cake, utter cake, but it stands to reason when I was fighting Rank VII hunts and winning. Gilgamesh's second fight was harder than the final boss (I used three Megalixers and six Elixers to beat him lol) who I destroyed quite easily indeed. He had some decent damage output but he didn't stand a chance.

...And as soon as I beat it I started a new one. lmao

Gotta say it's pretty high ranking in my RPG list, not to mention out of the FF games.

Personally, Final Fantasy XII is my favorite, with Final Fantasy VIII being in close second. The system, the exploration, the freedom the UNCONMENSURABLE amount of extra stuff to do. Sure, it probably doesn't have as deep a characterization or plot as other FF's, but I like it a lot because it's fun enough. I played it three times and I will play a fourth. But can I ask a few things? A) What was difficult to you? B)Did you defeat Yiazmat or maybe even Omega Mark XII? C)Did you get Tournesol? D) Is anything I'm saying making sense? XD.

I think the only reason FFXII doesn't tie with my highest ranking ones is because I like the sequel, Revenant Wings, more and that one ranks up with my favorites (FFIX, Dirge of Cerberus and Crystal Chronicles)

A ) Part of the difficulty was because I was trying to evenly level everyone and give everyone all the equipment...waste of money and made me underleveled. It wasn't until after the Leviathan part that I went to Gamefaqs and they gave me some tips like using Enemy HP = 100% - Steal to get a ton of loot and such. I had a fair amount of difficulty up until then but after that I pretty much annihilated most of the game aside from a few points like Judge Ghis (if I remember right that's the one that was on Mt Bur-Omisasce, right? Or was that the Leviathan one? I don't remember, my time with the game was pretty spread out so I've forgotten some things)

B ) I did not fight Yiazmat, at least not before beating the game. I have pretty much all the hunts done except for The Seer, Fafnir and one other one in the Pharos unless there were more other than those I'm not aware of (Haven't looked up a full list of hunts yet but I think I got them all lol) I don't know if I will or won't even attempt it because Gilgamesh was stupid hard and I can't even beat Fafnir yet, maybe if I go up a bunch of levels or do something with the Rare Game hunts and maybe get awesome weapons and armor.

C ) I don't even know what a Tournesol is so no. lol

D) I got most of it, though I've never heard of this Omega Mark XII you speak of.

Keep in mind if it's IZJS only then I definitely wouldn't know of it since I can only play the NA version.

I was never able to play the sequel (I only played in my life NES, when very little, Genesis, PS1, 2 and 3. Yeah, I need more consoles in my life :( ). Anyway, interesting podium, though I haven't played Crystal Chronicles. Anyway, here's what I think.

Indeed the even thing was a bit tedious, and if you didn't do it well, it was going to backfire you, especially if it is your first time. But I can't say it troubled me a lot to tell the truth (considering evening out stats is something I ALWAYS did XD). But the Quickening system was a bit tedious to just get everyone in. But yeah, stealing made things a WHOLE lot easier XD. Judge Ghis was the one in the Leviathan. The other was Judge Berger.

Yiazmat will take TIME before you want to defeat him AND to defeat him. If there isn't someone else, Yiazmat might as well be the enemy with most life in history, with a grand total of FORTY MILLION HIT POINTS (No, you didn't read that. He does have all that...). The Seer is the mark in Pharos which takes FOREVER before you can battle him (I hate the under of Pharos as much as I hate Giruvegan XC). Gilgamesh WAS difficult (especially because the zone he was NOT a playground), but he doesn't compare to other believe me. Before Yiazmat, you try to defeat the Hell Wyrm first, that has 8 Million hit points (again, not kidding), as in a sort of preparation XD. The rare games...ugh...don't try to get them all because it will take you FOOOOOREVEEEEEEEEEEER...and yes, that's not an exaggeration. There however, some useful rare games to get some useful weapons.

Tournesol is the most difficult to fabricate weapon. The things it needs, are ALSO fabricated, and they aren't easy to get too. It also costs a grand 500.000 gil, si it also takes forever unless you know a certain trick when you defeat the Behemoth King mark. It's the second best weapon in the game with 140 of attack, but it's difficult to get XD.

Omega is what many consider the most difficult boss. He only has 2 Million hit points (which is nothing compared to Yiazmat). What's the catch? The guy does one thing, and only thing. A ray each 3 seconds that, even it levels of over 90 and all the buffs and stuff, STILL takes away like 5000, 6000 damage...in other words, killing him becomes ANOTHER FOOOREVEEEEEEEEEER task (I am yet to defeat him. I took down Yiazmat, which in that moment proceded to dance like a madman, but I have yet to take upon Omega).

It's all on the normal PS version, don't worry. Also, if you want, I can give you some tips. While I haven'0t played the game in a good whilke, it's a game I have quite fresh in the mind XD. Ask me almost anything, and I'll probably be able to answer/help you ;) .

I'm not usually one to go for super bosses in an RPG anyway but I might someday want to go for these fights despite their difficulty.

Hard to believe Yiazmat has the most HP when FFXIII's enemies had a ton of HP though. I can't say for sure but it would stand to reason that because of the damage output you are capable of the hardest hunt in FFXIII might have more than Yiazmat.

For now I'm just restarting a game and using the other three characters I wasn't using at the end of my first playthrough. (I was using Penelo, Balthier and Basch so I'm gonna use Ashe, Fran and Vaan) I hope to beat the game easier since I'll be able to play it a whole lot easier knowing the ropes this time around.

I'm assuming the Tournesol is something you get out of the Bazaar then?

To be honest, the one you can say is truly difficult, is Omega. Yiazmat can take a while (with the big HP and all), but he just becomes, slightly more tedious than difficult, IF you are well leveled. Omega however, given that he only does one thing over and over again, is so tedious and so difficult you just want to ragequit XD.

Yiazmat HAS the most HP. AS far as I've been told, because I haven't played FFXIII but I know a friend who does, the highest HP you'll find in that game is 16 million, courtesy of the Long Gui. But yep, still lower than the big bad mark of FFXII. I'm not too sure why, but then again, I have seen some complicated stuff going on in FFXIII, so yeah, between taking hand of the game and all that, them not having that much HP COULD make sense...I guess *shrugs*.

Well, there's a few things that could help you, if you didn't know already. One, if you didn't know, each character has a certain strength, but there are some infallible good characters. In order of HP and Strength, Basch is the best, the Balthier, then Vaan. In order of MP and Magick Power, the best is Ashe, then Penelo and then Fran. Fran is to me the worst character, cause she doesn't have a certain strength, nor anything she's even strong at. But you do what you wish. Also, whenever you have a guest character, USE THEM ALL YOU CAN. Especially Larsa, considering he can heal you. But Vossler is cool too. Remember that the guests gain levels according to the level of the highest leveled member, if I remember correctly. So if you can remember when the guests are about to come, and when they go (again, Larsa is cool as all hell. Use him as much as you can), you can use that to your advantage. But remember, that with one more party member, you'll gain less experience, if you hadn't realized. Also, if you plan to do extra stuff, just do the necessary that is important to you (Completing the Sky Pirate's Den is nigh impossible thanks to the Rare Games XC). But I say it's worth it. May become tedious, but it's worth it.

And yes, the Tournesol is gotten through the bazaar, and it's one tough cookie. It's HELL to try and get it, but with enemies like the Hell Wyrm, Yiazmat, Omega and so, it's very worth it. As is the Zodiac Spear, but you won't be getting that without a faq. Believe me, I know XD.

Oh it's definitely possible to get the Zodiac Spear without a FAQ. I know which treasure chest it's in and all I have to do is avoid all the other treasure chests in the game. (Not that it's gonna miss much, most treasure chests have crap in them anyway LOL)

I just assumed the Long Gui had more HP because of the game where even regular enemies have thousands more HP than they do in other FF games but I guess Yiazmat still has it beat.

I just wanna use all the characters for my first two runs so I get a feel for them all and how well they do in battle. If and when I do go for Yiazmat or Omega I might worry about stats but as it is the game doesn't really require you to be that crucial with stats that you need to use certain characters over others. lol

The game seems pretty fun for challenge runs though. I don't do challenge runs ever but I like the idea of how unique you can make each playthrough depending on what you do on the License Board.

I actually hate challenge, it's why I never play on any difficulty higher than normal. I just like "challenge runs" that are fun. Not because they are challenging, but because they are unique and fun to do. Challenge itself, as in putting restrictions on yourself to make yourself want to throw your controller, are little more than tedium and frustration. I find no fun in redoing the same parts over and over and over until I give up completely.

Ahem, I should make it more clear that. I hate challenge that is imposed purely for challenge's sake. I don't mean I can't or won't play hard games but I will never self-impose a challenge purely to say I did something difficult, that holds no value for me. I do things for the fun of it, not to prove myself to anyone.

A fun challenge run I've done:

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Julius Mode - No attacking enemies, no save points (even for healing, you must heal using boss hearts), must fight all bosses including Legion, accidental killings are okay like if you use the high jump attack and accidentally kill a Tiny Devil or something so you don't have to worry about restarting if you accidentally kill something like that.

It was fun, and obviously it's more challenging than playing the game normally purely by the restrictions placed but it wasn't so hard it makes you wanna pull your teeth out. The best part is that Julius Mode can be beaten in less than 40 minutes anyway.

Up until that point?...Yeah, probably XD.

I'm not sure WHY they didn't use more HP, but it's probably because of the game system. But I sure as hell don't know XD.

That's perfectly fine. Although, to be honest, whenever fighting the big guys, healing 24/7 and having the most HP (AKA use Bubble Belts or the magic itself), is CRUCIAL XD.

And it's true, FFXII IS one of the ones that let's you have more fun in challenge runs, because of variety. I have never done one, nor am I interested in. i just play the game, maybe try to complete it as much as I can, with AND without guides, and that's it. There's really not much else to say about me on that regard (although I AM trying to get every car on Gran Turismo 5, but that's because GT and me are an item XD).

I was using a Bubble - Self Gambit for most of the end of the game. I didn't discover it's usefulness until right before the Pharos but it really saved me in some hunts (I did a majority of the Rank IV-VII hunts at this point and Bubble helped a lot) I use Bubble itself because I needed the accessory slot for Balthier's steal gambit and I had the Sage Ring on Penelo so she could cast lots of spells for little cost. (Even though I had the Charge - MP > 10% gambit)

Eh, I had to use the Bubble Belt in multiple occasions (like Yiazmat and the like), because recasting Bubble ASIDE from casting Hastega, Protectga and Shellga was too much work, and you CAN'T waste more time than normal. Believe, in those, all you want to keep is Curaga, Hastega, Protectga, Shellga, and that's it. Maybe even Reflect/Scathe combination if it can be used.

challenge is more for the people in the "competition and winning thing" and has to do more with pride. i enjoy destroying enemies in games on the easiest difficulty, but its gives me a sense of pride when i beat something like a boss on the hardest difficulty.

Same here, I prefer to utterly destroy my enemies unless fighting them on harder terms makes it more epic, which in most cases it doesn't.

I don't play competitively either so there's that. LOL

And I have little interest in pride through gaming. Sometimes I do feel proud for doing something but for the most part pride has little value and attempting to achieve pride can hamper the experience for me.

Sorry if I overreact a bit to that, I've had my share of insults for not doing challenges or caring about doing things the hard way and it gets to me sometimes. Gamefaqs poisons people.
