The Distance is my favorite Dubstep artist. Case in point:

I'm really not a fan of dubstep, but seeing as most of you guys haven't heard legit dubstep, I'm gonna post this in here. This isn't brostep and doesn't sound like it at all (i.e. no bass drops), but before you tell me this isn't dubstep, it is.

Hehe, these aren't dubstep! I love that if anything is moderately screechy with no guitars involved then it's just labeled "dubstep," especially around the time this was originally posted 

The reference songs, OP sounds like they're into complextro, bass house, something along those lines rather than dubstep that was being output around that time.

Some "retrospective" suggestions from me since the 2010s have come and gone, none are dubstep but I could dig up some dubstep of that time.
