gaming In the gaming vault 2: Donkey Kong racing

(This will be a short version of Gaming Vault because one thing and one thing only, not a lot of information of this game is around.)

Does anyone remember Diddy Kong racing for the N64? It was basically Mario Kart with rare characters that can ether ride on cars, hovercraft, and air planes with a variety of game modes. Since it was a successful seller, why not make a sequel? And that was what rare was going to do. At E3 2001, the game was announced with a pre-rendered trailer.

Then at Spaceworld 2001, another trailer and a press conference for Donkey Kong Racing appeared. This was the trailer:

The game was supposed to be released in 2002. So the game was about to be developed, but something unexpected happened. Can you guess what it is?

No? Well Microsoft bought Rare soon before the game was even started. Whoopee fucking doo, we all know how that went out. Now the game was rumored to be redone as Sabreman Stampede. (I'll get to that on another Gaming Vault.) So the game would have been finished if Microsoft hadn't bought Rare..... and you know what game Rare made recently? Kincet Sports. I think my jimmies will be rustled.

I loved Diddy Kong Racing 64 when I was little, and just seeing that this got canceled infuriates me. I don't have much to say, but I wish Microsof didn't buy out Rare, this game could've started a lot of great things in the long run for DK and rare.

Did you know that is the same exact thing that happened to "Diddy Kong Pilot?" It was changed into "Banjo Pilot" due to Microsoft's purchase of Rare. It was the last Banjo-Kazoie game to be released on a Nintendo console.

I almost thought you were gonna talk about Diddy Kong Racing, but alas, I was wrong. Very interesting, I never knew about this game! I loved Diddy Kong Racing, and even enjoyed the DS remake. It was pretty awesome!
