Before Discord

Anyone have any canon information on the time period in between the founding of Equestria and the reign of Discord? As the Hearth's Warming Eve episode leaves off at the three tribes uniting and forming Equestria, and then we have the episode one prologue beginning off with Celestia and Luna standing up to Discord, who had previously ruled over Equestria.

 

So what exactly was happening before Discord and chaos befell Equestria? Also, how many years had passed between Discord's reign and the founding of Equestria?

Nope.

 

The two events, Discord's reign which lasted for who knows how long, that was then ended by Celestia and Luna who then presumably took their roles as leaders of the nation after having over come the tyrannical chaos chimera, and the hearth's warming eve episodes, which doesn't even mention the princesses or Discord, are both not linked as far as I know.

I don't think there are any canon answers to your questions. All of that stuff, sadly, is kinda up in the air in terms of how long everything went on for.

We shouldn't really put too much credit on a stage play for kids on Christmas :x

 

Nothing in the show ever implied anything about Discord's reign other than it was an "eternal state of unrest and unhappiness" and "miserable", there is no telling on how long it actually was

I was actually referring to the period before Discord's reign, not during, and after the founding of Equestria. But you do bring up another interesting point.

Actually, there is a possibility that there is no such thing as pre-Discord era, and Discord himself exist since the dawn of Equestria, wreaking havoc and giggles for untold millennia until the Royal Sisters took the Elements.

well its likely that the 3 pony tribes just lived in harmony up until discord stumbled across them however they left the old kingdom to make a new one even tho the reason they left to find a new land is gone now so now they have just found an area they could mine for resource also perhaps that were always in Equestria to begin with because it seems that they didn't travel far.

 

so to me i think that didn't move they just returned home and as 3 united tribe re-named there land Equestria

Yeah that'd make sense I guess. I just wish there was a more clear canon answer. I can only hope for more information on Equestria's history in upcoming seasons...

I would say that after the founding of equestria they where happy for a time. Then discord found them and reigned over them (for an unknown time) and then the princesses came and saved him.

 

This is why some people thought alicorns where a last ditched attempt by the 3 tribes to fuse the best parts of all 3 of them into a super pony that could rid discord of equestria. But yeah, there is nothing cannon about this

I agree that this tale was probably pre-discord.

 

I mean think of it this way -- just how long do you think the ponies could survive under discord before they all expired?

 

Farming would be almost impossible, the weather uncontrollable, magic unstable.

 

Yes it would be a miserable existence for the ponies -- but a short one as well.

 

At any rate I do not see discord as having ruled for more than 100 years-odd max -- anything more than that and you wouldnt have any recognizable pony society left.

I often had this question myself. I hope that Season 3 will shed some light on this issue because I'm dying to know the history of Equestria.

Actually this could be released as an official by hasbro fan-book as opposed to being an episode. If they released a book on the history of equestria and had stylized pages with the happenings of the time (starswirl the bearded etc) -- I would be very likely to buy it -- as would legions of bronies and age-targeted watchers.

Actually this could be released as an official by hasbro fan-book as opposed to being an episode. If they released a book on the history of equestria and had stylized pages with the happenings of the time (starswirl the bearded etc) -- I would be very likely to buy it -- as would legions of bronies and age-targeted watchers.

 

I would buy it under the cover that it's for my "nieces" -- who would no doubt want it as well -- but then I'd probably sneak it away from time to time to read it myself.

I apologize, I do not know what canon means. I guess I will just put my fan theory. My theory is that Equestria formed like any other planet, and the current development in its inhabitants were horses. But this planet passes through a cloud of dark matter, giving its inhabitants unimaginable power such as wings, magic horns, or agriculture powers. Discord was a creature who when this happened, his body got fused together with many other animals near him. He was young then and took the time to mature and get a hold on his wicked new powers. While that was happening, the Earth ponies began to mistrust the unicorns and Pegasai, and the Pegasai began to fear the unicorns. Then complete mistrust came and the three tribes formed. A couple of years after Clover the Clever defeated the unicorns, Discord decided it was his time to rule.

 

When I said clover the clever defeated the unicorns, I meant windigoos. Terribly sorry if any confusion was caused by this.

Hearths Warming Eve was (what I think) during Discords reign. They just didn't tell us that because they probably assumed everyone there knew probably. Discord was displeased with the developement of friendship and he went on a rampage. Two alicorns (Celestia and Luna) stepped up and defeated Discord. Everyone, amazed at their ability named them rulers of Equestria.
