Lady Rarity Pony 4,894 January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 I have these ad pop ups on my computer for some reason and I don't know how to remove them. Today I installed uTorrent so I assume they are linked to that but after I uninstalled it I still have these silly popups. Anyone know how to get rid of them? Fghik 360 January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 Check your plugins. When installing programs now, the installers usually include "BING TOOLBAR LULZ!" or "AOL SOMETHING OR OTHER, BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL KNOW WHAT THAT IS!" And the only way not to get those, is by un-checking the sometimes-nearly-invisible box. Check your Browser's add on's for any new toolbars. And by the looks of it, look for something like "Text Enhance" Then go to your control panel and click add/remove programs, and search through there. If it's not in either places, it may just be a browser issue. I don't get those on Chrome. But whatever you do: DO NOT USE INTERNET EXPLORER. YOU WILL REGRET IT. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid kid. ҉ .Eternal ¸.•'´¯Chaos¯´'•.¸Comes¸.•'´¯With¯´'•.¸Chocolate¸.•'´¯Rain ҉
Lady Rarity Pony 4,894 January 11, 2012 Author Share January 11, 2012 Have you tried pressing the X? Yes I have, all it does is close down that one particular ad. The ads can still open up when the cursor goes over them. LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply. Extraho Vinco 55 January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 (edited) Ill write up a little tutorial for you, but first try removing or disabling some extensions in firefox. It wont be related to utorrent unless you got a bad mirror or dl'ed something with a trojan or a rootkit packaged with it. Also look in your processes for anything you dont normally run (ctrl+alt+del -> task manager -> processes tab) Edited January 11, 2012 by Extraho Vinco
Fghik 360 January 11, 2012 Share January 11, 2012 Oh, and before you wipe your computer out of frustration... Uninstall and re-install your browsers. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid kid. ҉ .Eternal ¸.•'´¯Chaos¯´'•.¸Comes¸.•'´¯With¯´'•.¸Chocolate¸.•'´¯Rain ҉
Splashee 28,599 March 26, 2020 Share March 26, 2020 uTorrent had an agreement in the installation that allowed installations of browser advertising. You just had to choose to read the agreement and unclick the "right" checkboxes. However, if you already installed them, there is nothing you can do but reinstall your computer. This kind of sneaky behavior can still be around today, so be careful when downloading things off the web!
