Fun With Character Development!

I once heard someone say that one of the best ways to develop a character is to throw them into a situation that they would never be in normally, and then I was thinking, why not make it a game? Take the mane 6, CMC and spike and think of situations that they would not be used to and ones that would be entertaining to watch them deal with. I'm curious to see what we can come up with!

Here's all I have for now

Fluttershy: Gets put in charge of a large group of people, has to inspire confidence and exert authority in order to make sure something important is accomplished.

Applejack: gets the opportunity to land a major customer but has to kind-of suck up to him in order to get him/her. The customer is a canterlot style snob and Applejack would be really uncomfortable jumping through hoops but would feel obligated to in order to get the bits for her family

I like this idea - simple, yet mixing up the episode calling is a pretty good way of engaging the audience and leaving them in suspense of what could happen - the slightest mistake might push the other pony over the edge, or even worse, one of the mane 6 gets frustrated!

Pinkie Pie: Being placed around five snobby, classless, and overall mean ponies. She tries being their friends but they push her off and make fun of her multiple times - not unlike Gilda, but these guys are meaner than Gilda.

Wait...

That actually makes me feel sad.... I love the pink pony! Why does she have to go through that? :(

Have Twilight Sparkle fail a test, or worse, let down Celestia.

She could learn that failure is okay, as long as you learn from it

Actually... that is apparently going to be in the season three premiere. We'll see how badly Twilight (lovely mare with radiant purple eyes  ) responds to it.

This is definitely a very, very good one. Hell, pit Applejack with Blueblood. Blueblood was sent by Celestia, his aunt, down to purchase a vast amount of pastries and apples for some event she's holding, but Blueblood being the jerk he is, back-hand insults everything about Applejack and her food, while he's picking his choices. Would take Applejack's utmost patience to not buck him in the teeth.

Now for me:

Stick Discord and Celestia in a room together, and see how long it takes for Celestia's so-called 'limitless' composure to melt into nothing but a verbal bout of insults with the King of Chaos.

Rainbow Dash wins a silly cereal box contest or something of the sort, and get's the chance to spend the day with the Wonderbolts, away from pulling crowds and whatnot. All Dash wants to do is fangirl it up by flying around with Spitfire and Soarin, but as it so turns out, in their free time Spitfire and Soarin' are attending an orphanage opening, and are spending the day with all the less fortunate filly and colts, of whom Spitfire finds adorable. Dash, impatient as hell and irritated that she can't do what she wants to do with her heroes, has to deal with fillies and such wanting to play with her. She doesn't want to ignore the kids, because she's afraid Spitfire may not approve of her attitude, and god knows Dash wants Spitfire to be amazed by her.

TL;DR Dash is forced to be a good role model and play mate with potentially obnoxious kids.

One day, Applejack's farm breaks down. Sweet Apple Acres isn't Sweet Apple Acres anymore. This would turn her whole life of farming and bucking apples upside down, her normal life turned into an adventure instead. Though they were plenty rich enough to keep going, they weren't rich enough, and began to run out of money.

AJ would have a lot of character development by being strong for her family to get them through the hard times. Especially considering she's no longer so associated with apples and would have to find another job. Applejack would be very different, and that's an interesting concept I'd love to see explored.

Yeah seriously? What's the aesop in an arc like that? "Life sucks? Get used to it kid."

I prefer my candy-colored kids shows devoid of Neitzche-wannabe writers, thank you very much.

The CMCs cutie marks will be rock, paper and scissors then see their fates are a "I kill you, while you kill her" three-way murder suicide pact.

Well then... This is certainly the most unique response yet. Although now that I think about it it would be ironic if Sweetie Belle got a rock for a cutie mark, given Rarity's... History with them. I hope none of them have to share a cutie mark with snips though Edited by DashForever

Vinyl Scratch loses her earphones D:

Just kidding...

Applejack and family have to go out of town, and nopony is available except for Rarity who must work the farm for the week. She has to work hard to keep the farm running while the Apple family is gone. Rarity has to complete many tasks that get her very dirty, and we all know Rarity can't stand being dirty. During the week she faces many challenges, and begins to respect Applejack for all the hardwork.

I think that's actually a good idea. 'specially just from making it up on the fly xD

I think developing vinyl would be awesome. I would like to see a setup similar to rarity's with the deadlines. or better yet, She's only hired to play shows she isn't particularly fond of. as in horrible music etc.

Their is a school play. The lead singer Diamond Tiara looses her voice. Everypony goes into panic due to the lack of a lead singer; and the play starts in 10 minuets!

Until Apple Bloom and Scootallo somehow convince Sweetie Belle to volunteer.

Pinkie Pie gets a letter from Luna, she wants her to host and plan her first birthday party in 1000 years! everything is going great...until Luna has something to say about Pinkie's preparations.

Twilight has to learn how to be more upbeat and energetic in order to impress princess Celestia (for some reason I can't imagine), but doesn't understand Pinkie's coaching, and has to learn to cope with it herself.

Hrmmmmm

Some unethical group tries to take Sweet Apple Acres away from Applejack's clan. Because the mane six are somewhere else on an adventure, Apple Bloom is on a School trip and Granny Smith is taking a nap, it's up to Big Mac to make his way to see these guys and argue his case a court of law, while getting help from a down on her luck Trixie!

Princess Celestia and Queen Chrysalis have to team up to defeat an evil that threatens all life in Equestria. The mane 6 have to work with the Changelings as well.

Trixie.

If she wants to come back she'll have to do something interesting and redeem herself. I want to see an episode where Twilight isn't available to lead the Mane 6 in some dilemma, and Trixie has to take her place. Can she be in charge without driving them all crazy with her narcissistic grandstanding? Is there more to her magical abilities than the parlor tricks she does onstage? Now that's a chance for character development.
