My first drawings of my OC

Artfull Canvas

Recommended Posts

So, I decided to try drawing my oc for once.

Accually, this is the first 2 times I drew a pony, and they turned out pretty good.

Tell me what you thoughts are on these. Are they good? Are they bad?

Tell me! I need all the help I can get for drawing ponies, sense i just started.

Here they are

Here he is as a filly without his cutie mark.

These were taken at a weird angle, that is probably why they might look a bit wonky. Sorry.

Yep, there they are.

If you have any suggestions, plz ask! I wanna know!

To be totally honest, they are not very good at the moment: You got the proportions more or less right in the first one but they both look very flat. This not all that bad considering you're just starting out, but from personal experience (~15 years of doodling) I can tell you that drawing freehand like this or copying from an image rarely yields good results.

My suggestion: familiarize yourself with the anatomy and start to draw using lots of helplines.

Here's my personal favourite:

So that was one of first times you drew ponies? If it was, you'll be good at drawing. You just need some practice. Btw, don't think you suck or anything like that, you'll be better than I'm.

Also I think

the upper one is better. Keep drawing! :)

School is for practice. Practice makes you perfect. Nobody is perfect. So why to practice?

Well, sorry for having less than a year of srs art hobbying, but I can tell you that helplines do not actually help you achieve results that resembles the show accuracy many people want to shoot for. They're awesome for coming up with something close, but helplines don't help you say... draw ponies at a show-accurate head-to-height ratio. I've drawn enough ponies using helplines to notice that I always draw them with a smaller head for their height.

From experience, the best way to go for show-accuracy is to reference something that's show-accurate. Unfortunately, that means copying via drawing what you see, not what your flawed memory thinks it is.

Being your friend irl, they are pretty good. The second one needs work, though. It's a bit too bulky. I love the first . Keep it up. Maybe you could show me a few tips during school on Monday?
