Dropping hints?

Okay, so my parents have been asking what I want for my upcoming birthday and Christmas. The thing is, it's just hard to tell them. Personally, the thing on my wish list is a Fluttershy plushie (although really I'd take any of the Mane 6). I said I'd drop hints about it, but how should I go about this?

Before anyone asks, yes my parents do know I'm a brony. My mom seems, I guess, half accepting (it hasn't been brought up recently, so I guess she's tolerating it at the least). My dad on the other hand has nothing good to say for us, and says the entire fandom is weird. This really doesn't aid my cause or confidence here either.

So what are your thoughts on the subject. And while we're at it, what are your experiences asking for MLP merchandise for gifts?

My parents don't know I'm a brony so I've obviously never asked for any gifts from them. At least any that were pony related. You could ask for a gift card or some money that you could use to buy some pony merch with by yourself. It looks much better in your parent's eyes if it looks like you saved up money for something you want rather than just asking for it especially if its something they don't really like.

It is a tricky situation, if you want it as a gift I would say the quickest and best way to avoid disappointment is to just flat out ask for it. Put it on your birthday list or whatever you do. Dropping hints may be easier for you, but hints can be misconstrued or not noticed at all. Now it isn't easy to ask for stuff like this. I had to steel myself for days before asking if I could order one of those Hot Topic Rainbow Dash figures, and my parents have been entirely ok with what I do (So far as I know). Nothing really happened, my mom ordered it, I paid her back and all was right as rain but I know how it feels to be afraid to ask. But ultimately, if you want the plushie that's probably what you should do. Good luck with your situation

It must be nice to get gifts from your parents.

Mine are broke, sad to say. At least they've got each other though!

Oh wait, they just got divorced. Never mind...

I suppose you could just ask for a gift card to your favorite store or ebay.

I'd say the gift card would be the way to go. Or I could be agreeing with others here... no clue. Though that sounds like an easier way to go. At least you can get what you're after without having to ask for it, especially if your father doesn't quite like it. But those are just my two bits on the matter.

I'd go the gift card/money route. While my parents don't mind me being a brony, I doubt they'd want to actively support it by buying me pony merch.

Of course, I can just buy my own if I want to, which I seldom do. I'm not so rich that I can just buy stuff that I only look at :P

It's kind of funny how those who think others as wired are truly wired them self, but on to how to get the gift. That pony is kind of hard with the parents you have. I think the best kind of hint are ones that are blunt with out being overly blunt. Like "Wow, that's a really nice plushy It's really well made." But I am terrible at hints, ask my girlfriend.

Oh Bailey Peppersprout, that a good idea asking for a gift card for the store or amazon mite be the best way.

I feel like a gift card or money would be a good way to be super subtle about it. But if you really want it as a gift, I agree with some others and say you should just go ahead and ask. And about your problem with your father..... He should accept you as his son no matter what you are interested in! I think you should let him know that his opinion on your love for something totally harmless is not going to change how you feel about it. You're not shooting heroin, you're not going out and driving drunk, you're not killing and raping people. I feel like he should accept you for who you are. Because loving ponies is NOT a bad thing, in fact, if MY son wanted pony plushies, I'd happily gift them to him! Anything to keep his mind off of any destructive behavior! :P That's just my thoughts. Anyways, good luck with obtaining your dream gift! Whichever way you end up going about it, as long as you stay true to you, good things will happen! :) *please imagine this in Twilight's voice, please!* *So much more convincing!* lol

if buying the merch yourself isnt an option, ur better off jus building up the courage nd asking for it, straight up. you're a brony, be proud! who cares what your father thinks XD jokes aside, if they know what you're asking for will make you happy, then they'd be happy to give it to you :D

as for me, i got a lil sis whose also into mlp, so i guess it kinda helped my rents acceptance of the show? they dont care abt it at this point XD

Top of the Christmas list, size 20 font, bold and italics.

It's what you want. Just ask for it. Hiding it helps perpetuate to them that what you're doing is weird.

Don't think just ask. Te more you think about it the more it plays on your mind and the more nervous you get. I'v already asked for my stuff, I just straight out asked for my pony T-shirts and my Nightmare Moon... toy, ok saying "toy" dose make it seem a little silly but who cares when you have Nightmare Moon by your laptop.

I'd just ask for money. They probably wouldn't buy the right thing anyway unless if you straight-up tell them what to get. If you drop hints that you want a MLP plushie and they try to buy you one, they're going to have no idea which one you want.

Wouldn't it stink to unwrap a G3.5 MLP plushie?

I'm probably going to ask for a Luna/Nightmare Moon scarf for Christmas, I'll probably just pull the page up and show it to them.

My mother thinks it's weird, but I already have pony related things and she knows that, so I doubt she'll really care.

But I think a gift card would be the best way to go. Then you can buy exactly what you want.

I would go the money/gift card route myself though they don't have to know exactly what you are going to buy with it, ever since I have had my own job and money that is for the most part what family has been giving to me as gifts for the most part as tend to buy what I want anyway which is usually video games. Besides they don't have to know that you are going to use the money to buy pony related merchandise, you don't have to hide it from them but I don't think it is necessary to go out of your way to tell them either.
