khaine21x3 789 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 I strongly despite them and It's one of the reason I stay away from the mainstream media and most modern movies.Tv series, music videos, movies and radio are no longer about art but one giant advertisement and even lady gaga is pushing products with her music videos. I usually take down the names of corporations that that engage in the immoral behavior and tell people to never buy their products.
Dusty Soul 2,611 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 Sorry this made me think about this. XD Anyways, it doesn't bug me, though when it's excessive it can get a little out of place, but when it's once in while it's ok. On the Radio, it's more annoying to me. Starshine 16,333 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 Depends on where they placed the products. if the products are merely used by the actors, or put on a mildly obvious display, it's okay. As long as they didn't sacrifice anything to put those things on the screen. What really annoys me is when some radio interrupted a really good song for a damn long advertisements, and when it's done they skipped the rest of the song and goes for the next track
Shanks 10,816 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 Yes I despise it too, advertizing is one thing but it seems like what passes for entertainment is either trying to sell you something brainwash you, appeal to the lowest common denominator (ahem reality tv) or God forbid all of the above. Even youtube has gotten commercialized, seriously google buying youtube was the worst thing that could have ever happened to it. They have started putting ads of videos you can't even skip anymore and some of them interrupt you in the middle of the video, and on certain TV channels when it goes to commercial it gets so damn loud I feel like my ear drums are going to explode out of my head. Yeah way to go corporate America I am sure you are going to suck more money out of the gullible public by pissing them off. SrFrog 927 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 (edited) If it's not one of those, scene breaking placements. Than I usually never notice them in the first place, but that would make them subliminal messaging, now wouldn't it? Sorry this made me think about this. XD Anyways, it doesn't bug me, though when it's excessive it can get a little out of place, but when it's once in while it's ok. Makes me think of that, Josie and Pussycats movie. Nothing redeeming about it, but the fact that the main movie message got lost somewhere in the awfulness of the film. People could permanently boycott the corporations and tv stations that are involved in product placements or loud ads until they are completely destroyed, it's not enough just to do it until they stop. The youtube problem could be solved by simply streaming from other sites, ones based in China are immune to copyright laws and DMCA takedowns so they seem like a much better alternative. People need to be educated to view those things and intrusive video streaming ads as gross human rights abuse. transformers product placement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LFQIoc49ZM Edited November 29, 2012 by khaine21x3
Fridge 382 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 (edited) I don't really have a problem with product placement, if its done well. There are some movies I literally can't watch because I'm getting ad after ad shoved down my throat. There is an exception to this though, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. Its a Morgan Spurlock film and he's trying to finance the film about product placement entirely with product placement. Its really entertaining and informative. I usually take down the names of corporations that that engage in the immoral behavior and tell people to never buy their products. You and me both, the list is getting pretty full. Already nave Nestle, McDonalds and Coca-cola. Thing is Coke have so many things that they own its really hard to avoid them. Evilshy 5,090 November 29, 2012 Share November 29, 2012 (edited) Reminds me of the anime Dark than Black; a Pizza Hut sign shows up in the background in the majority of city scenes. It's not annoying or in your face or anything, there's just a ton of Pizza Huts in future Tokyo, apparently. It's become something of a running joke for people who watch it. Anyway, the only thing that really bothers me is when basically every movie and TV show ever has people using Apple computers. Not just because I don't like Apple, but because they have gamers with them, hackers with them, people who would likely never be using a Mac to do what they're doing using Macs anyway. For example, I recently watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the original Swedish version, if you're curious). We have this super great researcher, data analyst, and hacker tracking people, hacking into people's email, remotely controlling their computers... with a Macbook. Give me a fucking break. At the end of the day, I research products and/or go off of previous experience, and buy what I think will be the best product for my money. I really could care less about a company's advertisement methods, since they don't affect the product at all. Edited November 29, 2012 by Evilshy Signature now 99% less edgy! Huh I watched all three series and I really don't remember seeing the Pizza Hut signs. Might go back and look for them. I've seen Apple, HP, DELL and Windows but Apple is probably the worst offender of them all with their macbook and Ipod product placements. I stopped buying all the offending brand and there seems to always be a better and cheaper alternative which people don't buy simply because they're less known or the superbrands spreads fear inducing propaganda about them. Microsoft has crossed the line by threatening governments to force children to use microsoft windows in schools and pc assemblers to pre install windows, it's time to stoop to their level and use all kinds of propaganda to make people use linux. All the good smartphone brands have been hijacked by them and now uses windows 8 so I think I'll just buy some chinese brand since everything is already made in china anyway. It'll take a lot of work to convince people to boycott the superbrands and product placement probably won't be enough to make them do it, being able to convince people to consume generic brands or the more expensive quality sodas would probably go a long way.
