So, I need your help MLPForums

Here's the summary...

I posted a youtube video for a parody of TheLivingTombstone's Discord. The group who made the song, discovered my video and I was getting flamed constantly. However, I never said I ACTUALLY made the song. You see, their group (p^3) and I, got into a verbal quarrel. They claimed that I stole it, but since I never said I made the song, I technically did not. I merely uploaded what I thought was a good parody.

Now, I'm talking to a girl who is in the group. They mocked my ability to make music which really hurt my pride. I challenged them to a music making contest. Here's the problem, I'm currently busy with college and many other things so I don't have time to sit down and make a music song from scratch by myself. Can anypony here help me? I'll make what I can but if they have dozens of members, it's only fair if I have teammates as well.

Objections? Approvals? Concerns? Comments?

Ouch, quite the spot you've gotten into XD

And while I don't think you did anything wrong, the assertion that because you didn't say you made the song doesn't mean you didn't steal it. If it was for a parody, then it should be covered by Fair Use, and since the original is based of MLP which is a copyrighted work, the people who made it can't really do anything about it even if you had stolen it.

But anyway, I'm not very good at making music, but I have pretty good ears and can probably help critique  when it get's going.

Also, might you post some links to the relevant songs?

I just don't think you should worry about it too much. If they are really so self conscience as to sic their fanbase on you for parodying their work, then they aren't even worth your time. If they are really that upset over something as mundane as this, take down the video and keep doing what you do.

You mean this? From what I'm gathering, you didn't properly credit the parody's original creator. Whoever it is, they're nowhere in the description for the video. Not only that, but you didn't make it clear that you didn't create said parody. You merely said "Thanks to TheLivingTombstone for Discord! Find his version here.

", then proceeded to post the lyrics.

What I find even more odd is your refusal to correct this situation simply by putting that information in the video description. I know that if I had created that track and that's how I found it, I'd be furious.

Why not just disable ratings, comments, etc. then ignore them until they give up? Plus, a music making contest? Who decides the winner/ how do they decide the winner?

Well,ItStartsAtDusk has already posted what I uploaded. You can find theirs here.

That would seem like the right thing to do, but having a chance to show them that I'm not a nopony is more satisfying. Plus, even if I do take it down, are they going to continously berate me for every track I upload.

I did, they keep disliking the video, and are now trying to contact me on FaceBook, Skype, and Twitter. It's a bit pathetic that they are so worked up over it. I don't know about the second question. They didn't tell me. Apparantly, we are making a parody non remix pony song, They haven't told me the deadline to submit our songs either.

In my defense, I didn't know who the original artists for that song were, and by their actions, they don't deserve to be credited. Secondly, I never said I made the song, so why should I have to say I didn't make the song? I merely just uploaded a song I thought was good.

This is clearly you trying to take credit for P^3's parody. Don't beat around the bush, bro. Music thieves are the lowest of the low.

Well it seems they are a little butthurt, but don't make it your problem and don't do the acts they want you to do, just IGNORE them. They will eventually leave you alone, just take your mind off of it. Also, I recommend finding a way to troll them.

Actually no it isn't. That comment is a response of him saying keep up the good work. Which I answered I plan on it. In truth, I do plan on continuing to make music. As you can see above, he doesn't say, wow the song you made was so good. At the same time, you don't see a comment from me saying I'm glad you enjoyed the song I made, do you? Once again, all I did was upload the song. I didn't claim to make the song anywhere on Youtube.

Troll them? Nah, that's the last thing I want to do. Making music is hard enough as is. The last thing I need is to be engaged in a flame war with fellow brony musicians. The stress from that will make me not want to make music anymore.

Why did you upload it if it was already available on P^3's channel then ?

You are the one who acted "wrong" in the first place, just take down your video and problem solved...

Because it wasn't... My video was uploaded two days before theirs.. Check the upload dates for the proof there. I did no wrong. Them, trying to start a flame war, is.

What do you mean no? Us bronys should start a civil war that spreads across the Internet, we should try to pull as many people into it as possible. We should constantly fight and be in turmoil.

That way I can laugh.

But won't that make us look bad? People think bronies are all about love and tolerance and friendship. What would starting a giant brony fight accomplish?

My own joy and selfish desires would be complete... But I guess you just don't care about others happiness :( I'm highly ashamed of you.

It won't accomplish anything in my opinion. Just imagine how we Bronies/ Pegasisters will be viewed in the end as a result.

If you still want to hold onto the video then I suggest that at least, you put some credit to the original authors in the description, or simply use the youtube video editor to add a text at the end stating the credit...

also be careful what you post on youtube, it's not like in real life where what you say just dissapears forever. THIS is the internet, what you say will stay on the video's comment section until the day the video is removed.

If all goes wrong just remove the video...

That's what I would do since I've been on youtube for nearly 5 years.

Why would I care about somepony elses opinion? You don't matter. I don't like you. Hapiness does not exist. Only anger exists. Remeber that. Anger and fights are the only thing in this world. :P

I am sorry dude, it's youtube! You can never predict how people will react to your videos when you post them. Still, NEVER let others opinions affect what you post.

Maybe you should go and credit Eurobeat brony in your description, because he is the first poster.

-Btw, I love that remix!

I didn't claim to make the song anywhere on Youtube.

See, that's the problem: P^3 is credited nowhere, nor is it indicated anywhere that you didn't create the track. On YouTube, it's generally taken that, unless credit is given otherwise, the uploader is the content creator. That guy who said to "keep up the good work" assumed you had made the track. And you, knowing this, responded as if you were receiving credit for creating the track.

What you're doing can easily be fixed by crediting P^3 in the video description with a link to the SoundCloud page where you got it, which you should have done when you uploaded the video. So why haven't you yet? Here, I'll do the hard part for you. Add this to your video description (make sure to hit "reply" and copy from the quote block, because this forum auto-formats stuff):

This song was not made by me. It was made by a fandom song parody group called P^3.

Download the song here: https://soundcloud.com/cypony/sombra-parody-of-discord

P^3's YouTube upload of the song with more info here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQYIzDGOYwA

Easy peasy. There is ZERO excuse for not doing this now. Any refusal from this point on to credit P^3 for the song in your YouTube upload is clearly an attempt at creative theft.

Your move.

1. tell them you're sorry on forgetting about the credit part

2. put the original video's link in the description

If they won't shut up after that, it's not your fault

What I see her is that you only remember to credit the remix of the original, not the original video itself. Of course someone will get mad if the remix of his work got all the fame instead of his.

Yeah, it's because you failed to give credit to p^3.  I would just redo the description, or take it down.  Honestly it's not that difficult, to simply go into the description and give credit to them.  (sorry if this seems mean in any way, not mean't to be that way)
