Fir3Chi3f 20 December 7, 2012 Share December 7, 2012 Just wanted to say, at first I was irked by the minimum character limit imposed on posts, but I've yet to really run into it stopping me from posting anything. I have to admit, it probably forces users to actually post meaningfully instead of one word posts. I know it's rare and usually not helpful, but this is some positive feedback of things being done right! Thinking as I type - The only time this might be a problem is if users wanted to communicate solely through doodles, like if mlpforums had DA's muro. Ah! Getting off subject, great job with the site! ps - the big avatars also make the site look better, but that's more of an opinion.

Ah! Getting off subject, great job with the site! ps - the big avatars also make the site look better, but that's more of an opinion. The positive feedback is much appreciated, and more helpful than you might think. Part of the philosophy behind the character minimum is that, if you can't meet it, you probably shouldn't be posting in the topic to begin with. If it inspires you to add more to your post, that's even better! MLP Forums is a text-based discussion forum, not an imageboard, so I'm not too worried about discouraging image-based posts. In fact, reaction videos and image macros are part of what the rule was intended to reduce the concentration of. Glad you enjoy the large avatars! I like them, too - tiny little icon-sized avatars are a personal pet level of mine, so I'm happy to allow relatively large ones here. 5 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

kirbyboi 588 December 8, 2012 Share December 8, 2012 Yeah, for some the limit is annoying. I myself don't really mind since I usually type long enough posts, anyways. Plus, the limit is only used in sections where it should be used. I agree with you as well on the fact that it encourages people to make more meaningful posts. I also believe it makes us have more active members. So yeah, it's cool. Sometimes I might have to add another sentence or something, but that's about it. Then again, the whole point of a forum is to post a lot. So it makes sense. But I understand how some people can't think of anything else to type. I had posted that when I was so tired, the image thing was certainly an after thought. Recently acquired my brother's old wacom and have been trying to use it everywhere. I'll try to post some stuff in the art section, but it's mostly incomplete OC doodles of friends and myself. Was a bit intimidated when an Admin replied, the bourgeoisie normally doesn't directly interact with the proletariat. Its unfortunate that people seem to forget that this is a forum. An image forum is still a forum, just a different method of expressing ideas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_(Roman)

Batbrony 16,055 December 8, 2012 Share December 8, 2012 Gotta agree, the character minimum has been one of the best changes made on these forums since I joined. Excellent way of ensuring that quality posts alone get posted on these forums, and it's been a great way of maintaining the sterling reputation that I for one believe these forums hold, not just among other pony forums, but forums in general. 3 "You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes... cupcakes aren't good enough. Sometimes ponies deserve more. We have a complete picture thread for that in the Forum Lounge for all the picture posting and such that you want. And @Feld0 is right, this place has tons of great discussions that go on, especially in General Discussion and Show Discussion (ranging from theories, thoughts, loopholes, etc.). If we had no character limit (like I think we did in the beginning) it would turn into some posts having little to no content. Forum Lounge is, as stated previously, a place with no character limit that can be used for all the goofy chat you want!
NavelColt 22,880 December 8, 2012 Share December 8, 2012 Positive feedback on the character limit? What is this. Clearly this person is demented and cannot be allowed to stay here. Shun the non-believer, down with the totalitarian character limit :3 Great to have some feedback on things Really glad you're enjoying yourself so far.

Welcome brethren! Thou dost speakest the language of this fair chicken! Seriously though, I am happy to see positive feedback on the minimum character limit. Speaking from what I have seen, it has made this place a much more interesting place to be. If only because someone can no longer post "TL;DR" as a response to a wall of text forum topic. (Oh yeah, and... As Feld0 says, we admins yammer with members all of the time. We're all members here. )
