Well hey, i've been doing some practicing of drawing my OC, but I got frustrated with that, so I decided to draw Fluttershy.

 

Now I haven't drawn her before this, so its a bit sloopy(And wings are pretty bleh looking first time drawing those).

 

Anyways Lets skip my usual rambling and get right to it.

 

I also used this picture as reference

 

Well tell me what you think! I've been doing a tiny bit of side practice(I'm getting better at actually practicing for once instead of procrastinating lol.)

 

I drew this with the usual stuff I use, A mouse, GIMP, Ect.

 

So i guess thats it! Offer any feedback you can! As always I'm willing to accept it all because it only offers me ways to improve!

I think it's great that you're practicing!

 

But, I'm just wondering why the choice to use the mouse to draw? It seems like such a difficult tool to use in comparison to more traditional methods. Of course unless you have fun drawing with the mouse then by all means continue. But I think it might be more worthwhile to get your hands used to pen and paper rather than mouse and computer.

Well, its mostly because if the fact that I don't own a tablet, and its much more convenient for me to draw when I'm just sitting around with my computer open randomly.

 

I have done drawings of other random stuff with a pen and pencil before when I'm just bored in class(Never really anything super complex, and no ponys really.) But I don't really do it at home.

 

Plus if I do draw something with pen and pencil I have no logical way to get it here to show y'all because I don't have a scanner or anything to use for that, best I could do is use my Ipod or something and take a picture, but even then that might come with a bit of complications.(Plus Ipod quality camera isn't the most amazing thing ever)

 

I've enjoyed the drawing I've done with my mouse and all that so far, I can't say its really by choice because If I really had the funds and means to get a tablet I'd probably consider it, but as of now it doesn't quite budget in for me.

 

Oh and being a closet brony, its alot easier to tab out of GIMP when someone walks into my room, then to put away a piece of paper.

 

Maybe sometime I'll do a drawing of a pony on paper, but for now I'll just probably stick to gimp for the convenience.

It's a good first try but try harder and when you go over the lines erase it please. I am an artist and I just want to help you. Heres a fluttershy picture I drew a while back!

Oh ok thanks, but i'm not sure I quite get what exactly do you mean by when I go over the lines?

Do you mean the lines have parts where outlines of my picture kinda sticks out really bad or something? I'm not sure exactly what you mean?

Yeah my wings drawing it pretty sloopy, its the first time I've tried to draw wings though, so I do need alot of practice on those.

I see tons of improvement from you! I know that feel of drawing with a mouse because it's convenient, since I use a mouse too. Wings are very hard to draw so it's fine. I see that you left the body outline that's supposed to be behind the wings. I would erase that. I like seeing your progress in drawing. Can't wait to see more!

Hehe thanks! Yeah, it just works for my situation I guess. And I agree wings are proably above the head as hardest to draw.(they're very complex, where as the head just tends to be me failing to make a circle correctly .)

 

And oh crap.. Now I see that, I was rushing a bit towards the end, so i didn't do as much polishing as I'd like to have done, I don't think i can reupload a changed version unfortunately, but regardless I'll remember to do that next time!

 

Since I've already drawn Fluttershy and Twilight though, i'll probably go along and draw some of the other mane 6 before i try either of them again. I wanna take a chance at drawing each one first just for the heck of the experience and because I felt like it .

 

Gonna have to start thinking on who i'll draw next .

 

Anyways, glad to know someone enjoys watching me draw my crappy artwork . I think over some of the break more may come around so don't worry .

You're getting better and better, the anatomy is very good on this one, however the individual parts like the eye, ears and legs are too small compared to the body.

About the wings, they may look complicated at first but they have a simple structure, you might notice that the wing as a whole has a very simple shape, and the feathers extend from the bottom to the extremities like a fan. Take a look:

 

 

This structure is also very similar to human hands, you'll find that your fingers follow a similar pattern as the feathers of a pegasus pony's wing.

If you learn to recognise structures like that, it will be a lot easier to make complicated body parts without getting tunnel vision and ending up with a final result that doesn't look fluid. The key is seeing hands and wings as a whole first before focusing on the individual digits.

Hey, they actually do look like human hands! weird how I didn't notice that sooner. I'll also work on making the other parts (eyes ect,) bigger for next time.

Can't offer much specific artistic advice myself, but it's great that you're keeping up the effort, and as everypony  is saying, practice, practice, practice!  Very good effort my friend, and keep up the good work, you'll get there in no time!  And hey, as long as you like drawing 'em, just keep doing it, that's all that matters in the end!

Hm, i never thought of that, but that would make AJ quite difficult.. I think she'll be one of the later ones I draw, proably drawing pinkie pie next or something.
