Party Cannon 876 December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 I had posted a topic in the media forum about The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. You can go search it/check it out if you have not already. Basically, I said what a great show it was and mentioned its similarity to MLP. I bring it up again now because upon reading the description to the episode airing after next, Spike at Your Service, it immediately reminded me of practically the same plot as an episode of Winnie the Pooh. Spike at Your Service Wikipedia descripition: "Just as Spike is about to be gobbled up by hungry Timberwolves, he is saved by Applejack; Spike feels the need to repay Applejack and is soon offering a little too much assistance on the farm in order to fulfill the "Noble Dragon Code." [19] This episode was tenth in production order." The Winnie the Pooh episode My Hero Wikipedia description: "Piglet saves Tigger's life, and Tigger becomes Piglet's servant." Here is the episode itself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG_sjCauGXI This episode is one of my all time favorites. I hope the MLP take on this plot/concept is equally amazing! duidamasterXD 9,627 December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 Well to be fair, it isn't exactly something that has never been done before. Cool parallel though. Here's a song about a similar situation. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NB5zVuJtWkI
Anadu Kune 668 December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 Yeah this is a common story that has been adapted in many cartoons, including other disney cartoons. I think those may include Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, and Quack Pack. It is very entertaining when pulled off.
DarligPegasi 315 December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 Yeah, that's a common plot line. They did it in Phineas and Ferb too. Baljeet saved Buford and Buford became his manservant until he could repay Baljeet for saving him. Dusty Soul 2,611 December 19, 2012 Share December 19, 2012 This story has been adapted in many cartoons, such as "Brandy and Mr. Whiskers", and Winnie the Pooh as you know. Also that is a great episode of WTP. Soundcloud-------------------Facebook---------------------------Youtube
NavelColt 22,881 December 20, 2012 Share December 20, 2012 (edited) Wait wait wait. Back up. "Just as Spike is about to be gobbled up by hungry Timberwolves, he is saved by Applejack; Spike feels the need to repay Applejack and is soon offering a little too much assistance on the farm in order to fulfill the "Noble Dragon Code." [19] This episode was tenth in production order." gobbled up by hungry Timberwolves Timberwolves I've never actually seen this episode's description in detail until now. We get more Timberwolves? I've wanted to see more of them since their debut in Family Appreciation Day. Spitfire, Timberwolves, Scootalove...I swear if Discord returns like what's been heavily hinted to, even in a flashback, S3 is best season, end of story. Anywho, on topic, it's a nice comparison, but like DashForever said, the over-the-top-favors-since-you-saved-my-life bit has been done to death in all sorts of cartoons and other media. Phineas and Ferb had an entire episode about how the nerd character saved the life of the bully character by stopping him from choking, and the bully says it's his duty to be the servant of the nerd, due to the 'Bully Code', which states that if the bully is saved, then he becomes his saviors servant. Said episode can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvM1kHHmwfw In fact, during the song, it says it directly. "It's a 70's sitcom cliche; he says he's in my debt, but I wish he'd forget."
