Silverhoof 2,844 December 20, 2012 Share December 20, 2012 I'm in Des Moines, Iowa. We've got between 8-12 inches of snow and will get another 6-8 inches before Thursday is done. High winds are making for blizzard condition from 6 PM last night until 6 PM tonight. The city is pretty much shut down. All the schools are closed. My work has a hotline to call, and they are shut down for the day. The people on the news radio station here all slept in the station last night, no one else can reach the station. The storm started out as rain, and later turned to snow so there is a layer of ice on the roads. The roads are all bad. The plows are all out, but the wind is replacing all the snow as they plow. The weather girl at the radio is saying this is probably the worst winter storm in 10 years. Oh. And to top it off...Thunder Snow. You know the hush that comes during a heavy snowfall. Add Thunder and lightning to that! And the radio just confirmed it! 2 UNICORN FAN CLUB: http://mlpforums.com/topic/113426-unicorns-are-the-best-ponies-fan-club/ NEW SILVERHOOF http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/new-silverhoof-r4429 Equestrian Physiology 101: http://mlpforums.com...physiology-101/
Leafeon 2,702 December 20, 2012 Share December 20, 2012 It started snowing in October here. Now it isn't snowing at all. Which is awesome because I hate snow and exams in January. I'm sick today though. :/ Eeveelutions: @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: Don'tDropThatDedenne
Silverhoof 2,844 December 20, 2012 Author Share December 20, 2012 31 thousand are without power. I'm pretty jealous of people with fireplaces. 10 foot drifts are rampaging on the freeways. The light of my heart is OK. Just talked to her. We both stocked up, so she'll wait out the storm just fine. Weather like this calls for an easy chair, kicking up your feet. Wrapped up in a quilt, with a dog or cat on your lap. a fire and a cup of hot chocolate. It started snowing in October here. Now it isn't snowing at all. Which is awesome because I hate snow and exams in January. I'm sick today though. :/ Get well. I hate snow too. I grew up in Arizona. 2 UNICORN FAN CLUB: http://mlpforums.com/topic/113426-unicorns-are-the-best-ponies-fan-club/ NEW SILVERHOOF http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/new-silverhoof-r4429 Equestrian Physiology 101: http://mlpforums.com...physiology-101/
Creamy Arty 6,252 December 20, 2012 Share December 20, 2012 Two years ago we got a blizzard of sorts. The last one before that was in 1996, which seemed worse to me because the snow came up to my waist in most places and up to my chest in some others. Everyone in my area except for me seems to hate it when that happens. Virginia is never adequetley prepared for heavy snowfall. Roads are covered by a sheet of ice with snow on top, nobody has gas for their generator or even owns a generator itself, etc. My guess is nobody prepares because nearly 100% of the time when forecasters are warning us to batten down the hatches and be prepared to get stranded wherever we are by imminent blizzard-like conditions, we either get a dusting or no snow whatsoever. One year, many years ago, I remember watching a snowstorm move south from Maryland. Once it got past the northernmost part of Virginia it forked and curved around the state in both directions, leaving most of Virginia completely dry. This state frequently gets cold enough for snowfall every winter, but seldom does anything big happen. Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights!
