Wubsie 1,123 December 27, 2012 Share December 27, 2012 Usually when I make signatures I don't have a problem. But now I do. I have noticed that I can't work with the space that I have, the little rectangle is too small for me. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but for me I don't really like how small our signatures have to be. See this? This is low quality IMO because of the dimensions. Now look at these. The are very nice looking and high quality. Why? Because of the dimensions. It's not that big of a deal but it irks me when I'm trying to make a good signature and I notice that things won't look right because the dimensions are so small. Also I have seen newbies walking about with super low quality signatures because of the small dimensions. The pictures in their signatures are pushed down and low res. TL;DR: Can we have bigger signatures? 2 I Steam I PhotoBucket I Youtube I Ask Me Anything! I Quote Feld0 spelled backwards is illuminati
Leafeon 2,702 December 27, 2012 Share December 27, 2012 I don't have a problem with it. But bigger dimensions for everyone would be nice. I hate having to only use a 1 pixel wide line for everything. 1 Eeveelutions: @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: Don'tDropThatDedenne
Vicke 3,189 December 27, 2012 Share December 27, 2012 It is one of the unique features that the donors have, so i don't think Feld0 will increase the size for everyone. And i think its a goof thing. Imagine everyone with 600 x 200 signatures. Yeah, pretty annoying. Signature made by Kyoshi
Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 December 27, 2012 Founder Share December 27, 2012 Significantly larger signatures, with double the allowed image height and allotted lines of text, are available for subscribers. While I appreciate the feedback, we have no intention of raising the signature limits for free accounts in the foreseeable future. The main reason for this is that the majority of our visitors use rather low-resolution screens with very limited vertical space (often less than 900 pixels of it). 20 posts are displayed on every page of a thread, and that brings with it 20 signatures. Twenty signatures that are 100 pixels high create 2000 additional pixels of - might I add, extremely repetitive - content for you to scroll through. For most of our users, 2000 vertical pixels is two to three times the height of their entire screen. And all that extra scrolling accounts for large images that, more often than not, consume even more screen real estate than the actual posts they are attached to. If we doubled the signature limitations for everyone, those 2000 pixels would quickly become 4000 pixels per page. That's... a lot. And it's not going to result in an additional 2000 pixels of content per page to compensate. Think of your forum signature as a public equivalent of your email signature. Do you attach the story of your life, or a wallpaper-sized work of art (or heck, both), to every message you send? Probably not; you can collect all of that to your heart's content on your personal profile, which MLP Forums grants you a significant degree of control over. Use the signature to attach a little bit of yourself to your messages, and save the big stuff for your profile, where the "you" part isn't fighting for screen space with the communal content of a discussion thread. We enact our signature restrictions for that reason, because it ultimately improves every user's experience when thread pages are kept to a manageable size. If you need or want more sig space, we offer you the ability to purchase it. 7 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi

NavelColt 22,880 December 27, 2012 Share December 27, 2012 You can get used to parameters, just like you can get used to anything new you haven't practiced. I make tons of signatures that are the normal size and they all look just fine, because I began making them in this 100X600 format from the beginning when I first joined this place. For me, it was actually awkward starting to make 200X600 signatures after becoming a staff member, because I was so comfortable in making the smaller size signatures for so long. Ergo, there is nothing wrong with the normal sizes for signatures. They don't inherently decrease quality or amount of content, they're just shorter, and thus your window of what can fit into the signature has to scale a bit differently. Just practice making them and you'll get the hang for how to make them look good in that size.
uuunph 288 December 28, 2012 Share December 28, 2012 Eh, I'm very pleased with the 600 by 100 limits of this site, I wouldn't want it to change. Other boards just seem really cluttered and bulked up to me. I mean, the 600x200 sigs for donors are already tall enough. Still much better than other forums, where sigs would sometimes take up close to my whole monitor (1280 in length). I've frequented a forum with 720x80 limits, so 100 seems to be more than enough to fit anything you need.
angels_gal 204 December 28, 2012 Share December 28, 2012 I have absolutely no problem with abiding by the sig restrictions. the board that i was a part of before i came here. had a restriction of 600 X 600 and the wait time for a page to load was significantly longer. those restrictions were larger for mods and subscribers which made a page take even longer to load. It made me angry when i had to wait for a page to finish loading because everyone's sig is so danged big. so i'm REALLY glad that the sig size restrictions are what they are here. 2 Pixel Art made by the talented Bruno! Wubsie 1,123 December 28, 2012 Author Share December 28, 2012 I'm not asking for huge dimensions. Just for something a tad bigger. 600x135 would be nice. It just looks like the signatures are so small. 1 I Steam I PhotoBucket I Youtube I Ask Me Anything! I'd personally suggest approaching a parent or trusted adult friend about the possibility of them buying a subscription for you in exchange for some chores or paying them back in cash. Apart from that, the 600x100 limit is not going to change. For me, it was actually awkward starting to make 200X600 signatures after becoming a staff member, because I was so comfortable in making the smaller size signatures for so long. NavelColt 22,880 December 28, 2012 Share December 28, 2012 CD, you know you're not obligated to make 600x200 signatures just because you can, right? Yeah, I know. I just made so very many smaller sigs prior to the ability to create larger ones, that I'm still running off the initial interest in making larger ones. Larger canvas is interesting to work with, still. Will probably level off with both later down the line.
