writing A Name (poem)

This is a poem I wrote last October about being taken advantage of, in one way or another. Comments are appreciated very much.

 

 

"A Name"

 

As my soul doth live
My heart does die.
I can no longer feel,
Only rationalize.

What's a man?
A bundle of faults; all the same!
Why do I even bother
Having a name.

You don't name your hammer,
Nor your nails or your screws,
Yet I have a name,
Though I'm just a tool.

People see me,
"Oh, how helpful he'll be!
He's not a human
With thoughts, feelings, and needs."

Now I'm sorry,
No, I don't mean to complain,
But you left me with your hammer,
Out here in the rain.

As my soul doth live

As I see the world

My heart does die.

Flesh is what is in front of you.

I can no longer feel,

If one could only realize your emotions are key

Only rationalize.

And analyze all that comes to me

 

What's a man?

But an expression of the soul

A bundle of faults; all the same!

That learns things brought by the lack of love from others.

Why do I even bother

For I did say, Judgeth not, a pony that loveth their craft.

Having a name.

You were born with a name but you can still choose one that is a reflection of you.

You don't name your hammer,

Yet you use it to strike at your target.

Nor your nails or your screws,

Yet they sink into things when pounded from above.

Yet I have a name,

And still only few truly understand

Though I'm just a tool.

And we, are as one.

 

People see me,

and yet only see with their eyes

"Oh, how helpful he'll be!

yet it isn't the flesh we should be seeing

He's not a human

For I am, but my knowledge is never sought

With thoughts, feelings, and needs."

Just as any other pony

Now I'm sorry,

Edit: think of it as kinda half translation, half adding to it. I know that's not what you wanted but I know you forgive me.

Hmm, it's not exactly what I was getting at, but it definitely compliments the poem very well, and it expands on the message in a more universal way. It's a pretty cool translation. It could be a poem in and of itself.  Thanks for taking your time to do this translation, TwilightCircuits. You always have great insight into these kinds of things.

that's sweet of you to say. I find I looked at it from the perspective of "if you had to pick a name for yourself becuase the person you either wish to be or were becoming or believe yourself to be... what would be? How would pick it? What would you base it off of? and all of the above. The name i was born with means nothing. TwilightCircuits means everything. It's the story that leads up to that designation of myself that explains "what's a name".
