Cliffhanger 5 January 28, 2013 Share January 28, 2013 Hello, friends! My name or more accurately the alias I currently choose to portray myself with is "Cliffhanger." Sitting at your computer, reading this post means that you are interested in being my friend and so you may call me "Cliff:" Since you are taking the time to read this and welcome me as a new member you will be happy to know that I have also taken the time to make my introductory post interesting and informative so that you can quickly and easily decide that you would like to be my friend. I share my username with that of my "ponysona" and like him would say that my "special purpose" is to entertain using the imagination. I enjoy writing fiction and frequently participate in various types of roleplaying, particularly those with darker themes and elements of horror. I am excited to know that other roleplayers are reading this because I get very excited about worldbuilding and storycrafting and know there is a lot of potential for fun roleplaying in the My Little Pony Universe. I know that there are many people interested in roleplaying on this forum and I also know that there are a lot of people to look at when considering a good roleplaying companion and that is why I'm including some information on my style of roleplaying. The way I prefer to roleplay is different then the most popular styles of roleplaying because it's built around actions being fluid and organic. Many advanced level roleplayers believe that good roleplaying comes from writing large posts full of many details and actions. However, I have also enjoyed pen and paper games in the past and have come to notice several very big advantages to roleplays that favor short, sensory-based posts over long, thought-based ones. I compared the flow of long, forum posts to interactions played out action-by-action via pm and found that roleplaying action-by-action creates much more organic and realistic scenarios than exchanging blocks of actions. For example, in one post a character might say and think several things and then another character will respond with another string of actions. If you tried to form one narrative out of this exchange you would find that the way the two characters are responding to each other is unnatural because they are both replying to a list of things at a time instead of replying seperately to each individual action. Now imagine how differently things play out if you roleplay action-by-action. Your character will say or do something and the other character will say or do something in response. This makes the conversation feel much more fluid and realistic. At the same time, the conversation progresses much more quickly and you will get involved in talking to the other character. This means you will get a much closer experience of having an actual conversation with the fictional character. I agree that the other styles of roleplaying have their advantages and would say that I prefer this style for its more organic feel. I would further say that I prefer roleplays where people make an effort to exclude thoughts from their posts and this is why: not telling me anything about your character before we start and only providing me with purely sensory information means that I get the experience of learning about your character as we go along. If I can't see your character's train of thought it also means that I cannot predict what they will do and will be more surprised as a roleplayer by their actions. All of the above elements come together to form a much more realistic and organic experience for both roleplayers that I greatly prefer over the other model. You might now be wondering how I can tell if I want to roleplay with someone if I don't know anything about their character beforehand and I don't care about their post length. The answer is very simple and that is simply to ask them about themselves and their values. Using that method I can roughly determine if someone will be a good match for me based on what I can tell about their maturity and how logical they are. It is my belief that being intelligent, reasonable, and willing to adapt are far more important than the ability to elegantly string sentences together. Now that you know my interests and some of my views you are informed enough to decide that you want to be friends with me. I'll be looking back here over the next few days and am excited to hear whatever you have to say. Now that we are nearing the end of my introduction, I will leave us off with a cliffhanger: Are you going to respond and take the first step towards getting to know a new and eager colt? Whatever option you chose, cheers! Admin of Pokemon Ceriah, a mature Pokemon roleplay siteHit me up if you wanna know more
Leafeon 2,702 January 28, 2013 Share January 28, 2013 TL;DR No, but seriously though. If you are good at making very long posts when it comes to roleplay, Advanced roleplay is the place for you. Not sure on this, but you may have to make a few posts in other places beforehand. Unrelated. Welcome to the forums! And as tradition around here generally goes: Eeveelutions: @Vaporeon: N-Harmonia : Ampharos @Flareon: Descant/Bard @Espeon: Locked @Umbreon: Lhee @Leafeon: Firebolt @Glaceon: Mal @Sylveon: Don'tDropThatDedenne
Cliffhanger 5 January 28, 2013 Author Share January 28, 2013 Hello Firebolt! I agree that my post is very long and the reason is that I am looking for a specific type of roleplaying partner and want people to be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not they would like to roleplay with me. Since you did not read my post, you did not read that I said that I specifically dislike exactly the type of roleplay that is the focus of the Advanced Roleplay forum for reasons outlined in my original post. Unless you were interested in roleplaying with me that should not be important and I graciously accept your warm welcome! Even though you did not read my post, I would like to thank you for taking the time to reply to me and would add that if you choose to read my post in the future I would be very glad to have an interesting conversational starter if we talk in the future. Thank you for your time! Cheers! Admin of Pokemon Ceriah, a mature Pokemon roleplay siteHit me up if you wanna know more

Based on your post, you come off as a comprehensive, or fine-tuned person (cant think of a proper word at the moment). You mentioned in your post you write fiction? Perhaps you can direct me to some of your works; i always love a good read from time to time. And by that i mean everday, haha. Especially from a new friend. Cliffhanger 5 January 28, 2013 Author Share January 28, 2013 (edited) Thank you, Reversalx! I try to be polite and "comprehensive," as you put it, whenever possible. I like to think of myself as a young gentleman, somewhat rough around the edges and improving every day. I would gladly give you something of mine to read and regret that the problem is in fact the hidden meaning behind my name. I've started many works and crafted many worlds and just as quickly as my muse flares up my interest wavers. My stories have the unfortunate habit of ending in unintended cliffhangers. I enjoy having them in their odd little collection and my writing skills have been fine-tuned by the process of writing them and building the plot the story would have followed so it is unfortunate not many have found their conclusion. I do have one recently completed short story that I'll undoubtably want to revise once I open it up again. I have been meaning to and I'd love to share it if you'd take an interest in reading it and I find the time to fine-tune it. The only thing that concerns me is that it's a horror piece and gets a fair bit disturbing in some passages. You could say that dealing in horror and modern dark fantasy is my forte. A very apologetic edit: Sorry to have passed your post by, Dazzleglow. I was mid-reply when you posted. I actually do vocal roleplays very frequently with one of my friends in person and agree that they're quite fun. The only thing that prevents me from normally pursuing that sort of roleplay is that I have what I'd say is an embarrassingly feminine voice. That aside, once I have grown comfortable enough with my character's mannerisms to fluently portray him out loud, I'd certainly be interesting in pursuing the idea with you.
