Ok, so here is how we're gonna do this thing, your OC is going to wake up, eat or whatever, and somehow make it to the Choosing ceremony, where they will recieve their mark. If you don't understand, just do something similar to what Basswaver does. (If you have ANY questions, feel free to ask me in the OOC or the PM OOC xP)

*Also* We won't do too much tonight because we are missing PinkieDaShy and ScaryMonster, and I don't want them to get left behind :P (your posts don't have to be quite as long as mine xP)

One more thing, these are the symbol we will be using, although they may not be this color.

Basswaver stretched, she rolled over to glance at her clock. She had half an hour until the Choosing. She huffed, why did she even have to go? Her, the least remarkable pony in all of Ponyville! Ugh, she would have to stand on the stupid stage thing for forever. She yawned, stretched again and sat up. She could see her reflection in her mirror from here. She looked at herself. She tried to imagine what sign he would have if she did get Chosen. She shook her head, that was stupid! She mentally scolded herself for being so negative this morning, it was bad luck! She got up and trotted over to her mirror, she levitated her brush and began brushing her mane. She began wandering into her memories of all the times a teacher had told her how lucky her and her classmates were to be born in a year of the Chosing. She honestly didn't see how they were lucky, there were millions of ponies her age, and only twelve get Chosen, but a pony could dream right? She had to be hopeful! She finnished brushing her mane and headed downstairs. Her mom and brother were already awake. Her little bro promptly tackle-hugged her. "Good luck today! I hope you get a Chosen!" Basswaver giggled and ruffled her little bro's mane. "Thanks Stone, I hope I get Chosen to!" She continued into the kitchen, her mom looked at her fondly. "Oh, good morning dear, for a while there I thought you were going to sleep right through the Choosing! Oh, by the way, pancakes for breakfast." Basswaver levitated a couple pancakes onto her plate before sitting down at the table next to Stone. The two of them had a cheerful chat about random things, pretty much whatever popped into Stone's mind they talked about. Once Basswaver had finnished her pancakes, she said goodbye to Stone and her mom, grabbed her trusty headphones, and headed out to meet her BFFs, she had quite a few people she liked to consider her best friends, but her very best friends were Star Rain, Misty Leaves, and Maxim. She had told them to meet her by the fountain, but by the looks of it, she was the first one there. She sat on the edge of the fountaun to wait.

Honey Seed had spent the night trying to get the dandelion she brought along with her to grow. Every pony always said that dandelions were the easiest to grow, but this one looked almost dead. She knew it was a bad idea to drown it, but it had gone so long without water, and after all, dandelions were the easiest to grow. As she stared at the water that sat on top the the soil, she knew she had over watered it.

Her mother called her name and reminded her about the Choosing. Honey Seed cursed to herself and started pacing around the room, looking for her brush to make sure her mane was in order. She looked at her clock, not much time until the Choosing and no time for a nap. If only she could physically give herself a good kick for forgetting that the Choosing was today. Rather than spending the entire night staring at a dandelion, she could have gotten a good night's sleep. She planned to get a good night's sleep, she had everything set for a good night's sleep, and then she saw how sick her plant was. One of these days she will manage to keep a plant without killing it, but why did it have to be today?

"Where's my brush!" She yelled out to the world.

"It's on the vanity, where it always is," her mother yelled from across the house, not even needing to look, "I'd swear you would have forgotten your own tail if it wasn't growing out of your rear."

"Thanks!" Honey Seed yelled back as she ran the brush through her mane. There was not much she could have done for the frizz. Her mane, like her room, was always a bit unruly. The ends bounced back into their curls, despite the fine, sort of straight nature of the rest of her hair. She brushed until it was good enough and hurried into the kitchen for a quick breakfast.

Her mother had set out a plate of jam on toast, which Honey Seed picked up in her mouth, chewing part of it as she made her way to the door, mumbling a thank you through the mouthful of crumbs.

"Good luck, Honey," her mother cheered from the door as Honey Seed hurried down the street.

Honey Seed kept going as she pulled more and more of the toast into her mouth until she swallowed the last bit. She knew her mother felt Honey Seed was meant for great things, and Honey would be lying if she said didn't hope for them as well, but she wondered what kind of Chosen would be incapable of keeping a plant alive? As Honey Seed got closer and closer to the stage, the world began to seem so much bigger and more powerful than she expected. She kept moving one hoof in front of the other. Whatever the outcome would be, she would be finding ways to truly kick herself if she at least didn't find out.

Misty Leaves tumbled out of her bed, her mane a mess. She yawned loudly as she got to her hooves. She had been very excited about this whole 'Chosen' thing and had trouble getting to sleep last night. After tossing and turning, she had finally passed out. She dusted herself off before taking a look at herself in the mirror in the corner of her room. "Wow, I look terrible. I should really fix that..." she mumbled to herself. Though her two tone purple mane was rather short, it still ended up like a rat's nest. Grabbing the brush off her night stand, she tried her best to make herself look presentable. Of course, since she wasn't a unicorn, the task proved to be difficult. After fiddling around with the silly thing for what felt like forever, she got her mane the way she wanted it. She hadn't really paid too much attention in class when the teacher had explained about the Choosing, but it was probably a safe idea to look like she wasn't some street urchin.

Misty passed her parents in the kitchen, paying them each a curt head nod before she grabbed a muffin with her mouth and headed out the door. She was to meet up with her best friends, the ponies who made her feel happy. They had always had such fun times together at school, so it wasn't a surprise that Basswaver had wanted them to meet up before the ceremony or whatever started. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. It was certainly a lovely day. She swallowed the rest of the muffin as soon as she saw that Basswaver was already at the fountain and quickly trotted up to her. "Good morning Bass, how are ya?" she asked nonchalantly. "Are the others here yet, or are you still waiting for them?"

Maxim sat on the porch of his family's house near the edge of Ponyville, watching as the sun roseover the distant Canterlot mountains. It always made the young zebra happy to see the sun rising. It was like Celestia was reminding the world that she was there, watching, protecting, illuminating.

He heard a board squeak behind him (the house had innumerable loose boards, as well as leaking pipes and a draft) and he turned around. He was small for his age, forcing him to tilt his head up a bit to look at his mother as she walked toward him. She smiled and set down a paper bag between them, the smell of apples wafting from it. Maxim blinked and winced, remembering now what he'd forgotten to do that morning: breakfast. He bashfully scraped a hoof on the ground, "Uh, thanks mom."

His mom just smiled and ruffled his mane, "No problem at all. Were you going to head off to the Choosing already?"

Maxim nodded, "I promised Basswaver and the others that I would meet them at the fountain before the Choosing. I promise I'll be back before lunch."

His mom chuckled, "Nonsense. We'll meet you there for lunch. Your brothers are going to the Choosing too you know."

Maxim smiled and took the bag between his teeth, "Al'ight. Ah see ooh 'ere." He turned around and started to trot down the street. Only a few yards down the road he paused, set the bag down, turned around, and ran back. He gave his mom a quick hug before returning to his bag breakfast and chargng toward the middle of town as the sun rose higher in the sky.

Maxim had always made certain to let his family know he loved them whenever he could. He didn't really have a reason for it, and the other colts certainly teased him relentlessly for still hugging his mom every day before he left the house, but it just felt like the right thing to do. Why in Equestria should he be ashamed of his family (even if they were among the poorer families in town)?

The young zebra trotted through town, flowing with the tide of ponies moving toward the stage that had been erected in the center of town. The Choosing wasn't a rare occassion, or a once-in-a-lifetime ocassion either. It was the kind of event that only survived in legend for most of history. To not only live to see one, but to participate in it, was a privilege that billions upon billions of ponies before had been denied. At the moment though, the only thing Maxim could think about was how far it was to the fountain, and how long before he could eat the apple based treats in his tempting little paper bag.

He spotted it and hurried over, seeing that Basswaver and Misty were there already, sitting on the edge of the basin under the fountain. He trotted up to her and smiled as best he could around the bag, "Heh'woe theh Beff-" He scowled and spat the bag out at his hooves. He licked his lips and started over, "Hey there Bass. Hey Misty. How's it going?"

Viridian Spark was ecstatic. The sun was barely over the horizon and he couldn't stop his own hooves from running around the living room.

"Can't you believe it! It's the Choosing! Oh wow, I can't wait which of my friends will be the Chosen. It would be like winning the lottery! But instead of the usual every-three-weeks lottery, it's an once every ten thousands years!"

His father, a middle-aged earth pony stallion who was trying to enjoy his breakfast, rolled his eyes on his colt's excitement. That day of the week, the stallion silently thought. Viridian's mother could only smile at her husband knowingly from the other side of the room, busy cleaning her colt's saddlebag.

Not waiting for any reply, Viridian hopped to the couch and continued his rambling. "Hey, Ma! Pa!" Do you think it's possible that I will get Chosen?"

His father only gave a small grunt of approval between his chewing. His mother chuckled. "It is possible, dear, but I don't want you to put too much hope in it. You know in Ponyville alone there are more than a thousand of fillies and colts just like you, each hoping to be a Chosen. I don't want you to be disappointed," she said. She trotted to her colt then fastened the saddlebag on his small body, and kissed him on the forehead. "Be careful out there. Try not to go to far from the town. We will be returning to Baltimare tomorrow."

"I will be careful!" Viridian Spark gave both of his parents a quick hug and dashed through the door. "Wish me luck!"

***

The journey to the Ponyville's town center was a quick one. Viridian Spark took his time to admire various buildings around him. They were so different with what they had in the Baltimare. Ponyville, the town of the Elements of Harmony.

"Whoa..." Viridian gawked in front of a statue of Celestia's likeness. He never saw a royalty before. Hm, maybe after this he would get the chance to see a soon-to-be-princesses? Or maybe a princes? Either way, Viridian found himself unable to take his eyes off from the statue. He sat down in front of it, paying no heed to everypony around him.

After a strange dream that involved an arrow-like mark, Star Rain stretched her forelegs and realized she went to sleep with a book on her face. She wasn't surprised though. It was in her nature to stay up reading at night. But what was up with that mark? I've seen it before in my zodiac books. Wait a minute, marking? Zodiac? I got to get going! she thought, remembering the promise she made to go meet everypony. She dashed into the kitchen and levitated a bowl of porridge over to her without her bossy mother's notice. She dashed off before she even noticed.

She had no confidence that she was to be a Chosen. Her mother never even performed the ceremony parents put on to increase their sons' and daughters' luck of becoming one. Still, she jogged over to the fountain, the meeting place for her friends and her. "'lo," was all she said when she got there. She then ate her porridge and tossed the bowl into the nearby trash can(it was made of styrofoam).

Standoff woke up in his bed, which truly scared him. He'd gone to sleep on the couch, and he lived alone, having inherited part of his eccentric parents (the other part went to the famill cat, who was now living quite comfortably in Canterlot) and being intelligent enough to land a job at a computer company. He was managiing his mortgage well, and...

Hold on hold on wait wait wait.

What was it today?

Saturday?

No, yesterday was Saturday.

Today was Sunday.

Crap.

Standoff jogged to the kitchen, making a sandwich on the fly (not easy when you're an Earth Pony) and scarfing it down on his way out the door, still at a light pace. When he arrived at the fountain, Standoff sat on the fountain without acknowledging the others, as usual. His body language said "I'm here, you guys are here, what now?"

She then looked down as if she were sad, but she wasn't really sad. "I know I'm not going to become a Chosen," she whispered aloud. She then saw her mother looking around for her and she(Star Rain) said,"Oh no... Guys! Hide me!"

Basswaver was beaming with excitement as her friends started to show up. She greeted each of them as they arrived. She was about to suggest they get going when Star Rain began panicking and trying to hide behind her. Basswaver giggled. "Star, why don't you hide behind that trash can over there, we can stand in front of it until your mom leaves." Basswaver wondered why she was hiding from her mom this time, but she was used to it by now, Star was always sneaking out. Basswaver nudged Misty Leaves and gestured towards Star's mom and then to Star. She hoped Misty would get it.

Star Rain was taken by surprise when she got knocked into the fountain by Standoff. Great idea for hiding Standoff! At least Bass isn't pushing me or anything she thought with contempt. She then realized that her mother was coming this way, so she held her breath for as long she could in the water. Misty turned towards Maxim as he approached. He looked silly as he spat out the bag and Misty had to stifle a laugh. "Good morning Max. Glad to see you made it. We're just waiting on Star." she said taking a seat on the fountain.

Down the road Star Rain was jogging towards them with scared look on her face. She certainly looked nervous this morning. It was likely she thought she'd not be Chosen. Misty herself wasn't as sure that she'd be picked from among all the other ponies either. All she recalled was that a lot of ponies were coming to the ceremony. The chances of her getting Chosen for whatever this was all about were quite slim.

"Morning to you too Star." she said stretching out while yawning. Now that everyone was here, perhaps they could get moving. But Standoff was suddenly at the fountain. She didn't remember Basswaver inviting him, but he seemed like an alright colt in school. But he was just another pony who might get Chosen or not. What criteria, if any, they went on, she couldn't be sure. So it was anyone's guess as to what they were looking for. Misty returned Standoff's gestures with a simple "Mornin'."

Without warning, Star Rain became even more nervous and told them that her mother was near by and she didn't want to be seen by her. It wasn't the first time Star had done something like this, so Basswaver gestured for Misty to help. She merely shrugged and went to block Star from view after Standoff had knocked her into the fountain. Star's mother drew close and addressed Bass. Misty hoped she could convince the mare her daughter wasn't here. She didn't know why Star was always sneaking out, but it was sometimes fun to mess with adults.

Honey Seed looked around when she heard a splash. She could see a fountain and three ponies her age standing around, trying a little too hard to look nonchalant, and older mare was talking to them, probably one of their mothers scolding them for throwing stuff into the fountain. A dash of curiosity was pulling her to listen into what they were talking about, but an even more curious pony caught her eye.

A small green pegasus sat in front of a statue of Celestia. She had never seen a pony so spaced out before, especially not for a statue. It was Celestia, but he sat like he was seeing the real thing.

"Whatcha doing?" Honey asked, sitting down beside him, taking a few glaces between him and the statue to see if he was looking at something particular.

"I have no idea," Viridian Spark said to the purple filly who sat next to him, his eyes still busy drinking on the statue's details. This day is supposed to be the choosing day, soon I get to see maybe one or two soon-to-be princesses, or maybe princes..." he trailed.

Viridian Spark held back a chuckle, but failed miserably and soon he was rolling on the floor laughing. Before anypony could comment on his sudden outburst, he jumped to the air and hovered above the filly. "Wow! Maybe when this day ends one of us would be the Chosen! Or maybe even two of us, nopony can tell until the Choosing ends. It's so exciting!" He fluttered back to the ground and offered his forehoof to the filly.  "Anyway, my name is Viridian Spark. She decided not to say that she thought he was the little brother of one the ponies waiting around here. It was probably just because pegasi were so much shorter than other ponies. "Anyways, do you think you have a chance? I think I do. I have no idea what I'm going to do if it did happen, I'd probably get really scared, then really excited, then a bit nervous."

She took a breath to make sure she wasn't rambling too much. She looked up at the statue, admiring what Viridian Spark mentioned about Celestia. She then looked around, the place was packed full of ponies, most of them the same age as them, each one looking just as excited, nervous, boastful, and outright terrified as the next.

Viridian Spark shrugged. "Honestly, I don't really care whether I will be the Chosen or not, I'm here for the party!" He pulled a party horn out of his saddlebag and blew it. "Yep, you're right. Our chance is as good as everypony's else. No need to sweat it before we know who got the emblem, or whatever it is that they use to mark the Chosen ones." He tapped his chin. He never really paid any attention when his parents tried to explain how the Chosen ponies would be marked, but everypony else are bound to know when someone is Chosen, he could easily follow where the crowd would be going.

Viridian Spark looked around and noticed a group of foals near a nearby fountain were being approached by a mare. The mare somehow looked a bit agitated. Honey Seed followed Viridian to the fountain. Now with one mysterious pony figured out, at least his actions from what she's seen, it was time to figure out what was going on with the splashing ponies. She trotted behind him, only catching up in time to hear something about Star Rain. She wondered which of the ponies standing here was Star Rain.

The mare looked far older than the others, so Honey Seed figured she must be one of those mothers who gets more anxious about succeeding than her foals do. She took a glance at the fountain, still wondering what could have made that splash. It must have been something big, there was a bit of water on the ground. In the corner of her eye she could see the ripple of something purple and yellow shape, but the mare leaving caught her attention. She didn't catch much of what the mare said beyond, going somewhere. Honey didn't give it much mind, ready to see what was going on with the other ponies.

She jumped as a pony burst out of the water, gasping. At least she now knew what that purple and yellow shape was.

It had been a fairly uneventful and quiet morning in the Quills snd Sofas shop; since it was the day of the Choosing, there had only been two customers (neither buying sofas, to Mr. Breezy's great disappointment), before the shop had shut down.

The lull, however, was broken by a voice shattering across the dusty shop.

"RAIN!"

Mr. Breezy was only met with silence from above and sighed. Ever since Rain had left that summer, his young charge had taken to sleeping late and going to bed even later. Her attitude had changed, too, becoming more sullen and easily angered.

"RAIN!" he bellowed again, wiping his brow. It had been rather hot in the shop, and he wasn't getting any younger.

"Shaddap," muttered the blue pegasus, rolling over in her bed. Her mane was tousled around her shoulders in thick curls, but her eyes were dead and dull.

Ten minutes later, after some shouting, pleading, and quite a bit of pushing, Rain was scarfing some oatmeal down and Mr. Breezy had changed his bowtie for the ninth time, the pair ran down to the square. It was filling rather quickly and Rain was forced to stand by the fountain. She recognized a few classmates, but she had always been the loudmouth no one much talked to but a few. She had only lived in Ponyville for a year and she was unpopular.

Mr. Breezy gave her a loud kiss on the cheek and smiled a little sadly. He didn't want Rain to be chosen, but things like that didn't happen to people like them.

"Good luck," he said gently, brushing back her hair for her.

After Mr. Breezy's rather awkward display of affection, Rain blushed furiously and muttered a goodbye, glancing at the group next to her. She loved Mr. Breezy, more than her real father, but it was still embarassing to her.
