Thanks for your offer, TallBrony91! Nice to see another vote for IP.Gallery - I'm personally finding it kinda hard to believe so many members here would rather have the site sped up than get our own miniature deviantART (I don't know about everyone else, but the site seems plenty fast to me). But hey, that's democracy. :lol:

Lol that's true, the site loads up pretty fast for me when I hop on here and i've got TERRIBLE internet lol. XD

 

But yes a very own miniature dA would I think, be perfect for the site but hey, if everypony votes for something else then that's totally cool as well. :)

 

And no worries, I wanner see this forum grow and look even more awesome, and I will happily do my part and donate some money to make it happen. :D

See this is the reason I choose CDN. I have to do everything off a tablet do to me moving and my computer is in storage. The site is very slow to me it takes 5-8 min just to load up the main page. Then theres problems with posting and yes I have cleared my cache it still is slow. so an IP. Gallery would be nice but how would some of us upload pictures if the site is too slow to make them upload. So thats why I chose CDN over IP some of us wouldn't be able to upload do to the site loading very slowly.

Tablets and non-computer devices tend to be quite slow by nature, especially when there are multiple HD background images in play (like here). I would suggest switching to the IP.Board default or mobile theme if you're having speed issues - you'll see A LOT more benefit from that than a CDN.

But you might want to consider giving a perk/bonus to members who donate money to the forums. Just a thought.

 

I can, actually. And I will. I spent a good portion of yesterday getting a subscription framework in place for just that. You should see a new link from your user drop-down:

Those who have already donated will be given subscriptions equivalent to their donations, and new donors are encouraged to make their donations through the new system.

Might help get more donations, but I don't think it'd be a good idea to do anything too major that might give people delusions of grandeur after donating, which I've seen cause drama in a few communities.

 

Edit: The subscription perks look good.

The main reason I'm using PayPal is because it's free, and it's easier to keep track of funds with a USD PayPal balance than my CAD bank account (which I understand Google Checkout would deposit into). It's really well suited towards donations, while Google Checkout seems like it's designed for merchants and sellers.

 

If PayPal's being uncooperative, you might want to try opening a new account.

 

By the way, I sent a $29.96 payment for our CDN just now, and am waiting for my account to get activated. Should be set up and running later today. :)

I just paid for and activated our CDN. Load times should be wicked fast now, especially on pages with lots of attached images (attached, not embedded - images embedded from other sites won't load from our CDN). The ping to the CDN servers is about 13 ms for me. Hope it was worth it for the 25 of you who wanted it. :)

Why exactly would you say we need a faster VPS (unless you want some multiplayer games)? My current one still has lots of room to grow.

 

Also, ServInt ftw. Not planning to move away from them anytime soon - their network speeds are fantastic, the servers themselves are a great deal (especially considering they're fully managed), and the customer service - oh man, the service. Their support team is simply brilliant. I see no reason to switch.

Well, looks like we went with CDN. Ultimately I think that's a good choice for our first upgrade. Faster speed will help as we grow. I know I personally have had a few nights when load times were ridiculously slow here.

 

But hey, it's not like this was our only chance to vote on an upgrade. As time goes on I'm sure we'll be doing a lot more here. I'm excited for the future of this site. And I'm glad to be a part of it. And I think we DEFINITELY should look into getting an IP.Gallery as our next upgrade. My pony folder is bulging and begging to be shared, and I'm filling up my Photobucket account just so I can link pics. We totally need a place for them all here. :D

The CDN's really gonna make IP.Gallery fly when we get it, that's for sure.

 

I'm planning to have more "tell us what to buy!" polls in the future. And I have a few things in mind that could really give us as a fan site something unique. A free, donation-powered brony website hosting service, for one.

 

Our next goal, however, will be IP.Gallery. There won't be a vote on that - it's the next thing I'm ordering for us as soon as we hit $65.

 

Actually, IPS is currently having a sale on all addon apps - if we can raise the funds before the end of October, we can get IP.Gallery for 15% off, or just over $54. After getting the CDN, we still have $32.88 left, so we aren't even that far away from it!

Awesome to see that we got CDN and I have to admit even though I voted for the IP.Gallery, I think CDN was a good first choice. :)

 

Already seeing the magic happen, clicking on my shortcut to get here and BAM!!!! I'm here like a shot, XD so really great first upgrade. :D

 

And I agree IP.Gallery will be great for the next update, I will see how much I have left in my bank later on and I will send over some money as soon as I can. :)
