TeganGibby 14 January 29, 2012 Share January 29, 2012 (edited) This fits into approximately none of the categories above, so I'm hoping that "Video" will be appropriate enough. I have been debating making something simple and MLP-based such as a top down shooter for a while now. I am working on more complex projects at the moment, so as this would be more of a fun distraction, I would prefer not to create anything too involved. My proposal is an arcade-style shooter featuring our Mane 6 (plus a few extras?). It would be a vertical shooter and I would have to decide further on the details (bullet hell?). Special attacks would be unique to every character, and I could possibly have like 2 that you could choose between (see Touhou games). Rainbow Dash would have Sonic Rainboom, Fluttershy would have her Stare or her "Yay!", Applejack's would have something to do with apples/applebucking, Pinkie gets a Party Cannon or maybe her one-pony band from that episode with the parasprites, Twilight would do some sort of magic, Derpy gets something with muffins, and I have no idea what to do with Rarity. How does this sound? Give me any other ideas you may have (story, attacks, game type, or even an entirely new game idea if you don't like this one). This will probably be open source and hosted wherever you guys think best. I am currently hoping to release a demo of the arcade-style shooter this weekend, but school and swimming take up SO MUCH TIME!!! ------------------------------- New Post: Sorry guys, this weekend ended up being more full than I thought (no thanks to me finding the 1963 Doctor Who ). I am working on code to build and save levels in-game as of now and will easily have a full level in no time once I finish this and have reasonable placeholder sprites. On that topic, does anyone have enemy ideas (besides Parasprites and Discord as a boss...maybe Nightmare Moon - different than Luna - as a boss too?)? Also, I need a spriter or this will take twice the time...I only need low-res (don't care about number of colors) sprites for the game as it is sort of 8-bit style (using MandoPony's music as placeholder too - low quality so as not to provide free downloads). Please PM me if you can sprite for me and speed this up! Also, I can imagine Discord being a mind**** of a boss, popping out of background details and shooting a beam that hurts you if you don't get hit by it. EDIT: Also, I like the Rarity shooting jewels idea. Also, those guys don't even seem to know how to make it switch between Full Screen and Windowed inside the application...there's a problem there. Downloading to test it right now, but I'm not optimistic. I will continue mine no matter what that one is like. EDIT: Also YouTube (or maybe LiveStream) may have a video of my game tomorrow. As a recovering Touhou fanatic (seriously, I must have upwards of $500 worth of merch), this sounds like it is highly relevant to my interests and highly responsive to my prayers Hope to see some media soon. and I have no idea what to do with Rarity. I could see both some sort of magical needle (used for sewing, during times of peace and harmony) and/or gem-based projectile as candidates for Rarity. Livestream is easier to capture what I want, so I may just end up doing that. Also, thanks for the ideas guys! If you know someone who could do some spriting for me (cuz I suck at it/take way to long to do it) that would be awesome, otherwise visual quality will not be a primary focus of this project.
