So I've been playing a lot of XCOM enemy unknown recently and I've had so many moments in it where i am pretty much at the edge of my seat or freaking out because i only have a few soldiers left in a mission so i was wondering does anyone else have a moment in XCOM enemy unknown that had them at the edge of their seat or freaking out over the situation you got your soldiers into?

When I played Ironman, I had this favorite party member who successfully lived trough everything since the very start, always got the best gear, few times I even sacrificed new soldiers to keep him safe -  kind of this "My character" instead of one of the soldiers.

I took one of the random missions, everything went well, only one Adv. Floater with 3 hitpoints left, so what the heck, I order this character of mine to Run & Gun right to the floater .... 95% chance to hit - Missed. Ok, nevermind, 3 other party members around, including my super-accurate sniper. They all had hit chance between 85-95% and they all freaking missed. Ok, well, it's just a floater, someone will get injured. Floater turns to that "character", aims, shoots and freaking one shots him with the biggest critical hit I've seen in the game up to date (22 I think).

Yeah.

This game, man. Seriously. :P

~ During my (failed) Ironman playthrough, I was tasked with scouting some port in Newfoundland that had gone dark, which we soon found out was filled with zombies, and of course, Chryssalids. Everything was going fine, until we came to a ship, at which point the new objective was to activate something on said ship, to initiate an airstrike. We had eight turns to evacuate before it arrived, meaning my team had to run back across the entire map, with an army Chryssalids and zombies chasing them. We immediately lost a soldier upon activation, and the one who activated the thing, ended up being trapped and killed. So now, I have one sniper sprinting on her own on one side of the map, and two others (a support [my best], and a heavy) on the opposite side.

I lose my support guy to a Chryssalid we tried to get rid of (it was too close for comfort), which survived with only one HP. So now only two soldiers remain, one of which is practically at the evac site (the sniper), while my heavy is still some distance away. Wouldn't be so bad ... if my sniper didn't have two Chryssalids in real close proximity. I decided to take the risk anyways, considering she had full health and such, meaning she could still take another hit or two. My heavy starts sprinting towards the site, however she stops one f*cking tile away. One. Tile. At this point, if I didn't abort now, they were both going to die, so I did it, leaving my heavy behind to die.

I'd lost four soldiers that day, all of which were fairly well-equipped and high-ish in rank. If things weren't going terribly for me already, they were now.
