Draco made a fire for himself and the other ponies. "Stoke the fires of love not war. That is what my mother once said. How long has it been since I visited my families graves. Honestly, these ponies look like they can handle themselves," Draco thought to himself as he pulled out a flask from his bag. He took a drink from it. The liquid in it went down his throut burning it slightly. "ugh whiskey is rough but nice when it's a Whiskey Lullabye,"

The night grew colder and colder. It soon let up as the day started a new. Frost was spread on all tents. An outside thermometer read 25 degrees Fahrenheit. An inch of snow had fallen through the night.

 

Delia woke up shivering more than ever. She looked at Pia to see if she was still asleep while muffling her shivers. Delia's jewelry seem to have a thin layer of ice on them. In all my years of my pilgrimage i have never been this cold. She thought as she felt her face. Her eyes had frozen tears on them and her nose had ice crystal in them

Back in the empire a nervous Guard came across two stragglers. He wasnt paying attention when he accidentally hit and knocked out one. "Oh forgive me for knocking out your friend. Hey, arent you supposed to be with that group they sent in the mountians?" The guard said as he leered at the conscious pony.

Pia woke up from a violent shiver at the cold in the air. Her eyes were nearly frozen shut. What a very unwelcome wake-up call she thought. She stretched slowly and rolled over to see Delia looking at her with a very blue face. We'd better get her by the fire...quickly.

Flare woke up freezing in the cold. "Who knew it would get this cold out here..." Flare said as he exited his tent and sat by the fire. "Probably should have found a cave to settle down in...probably wont be as cold...but still warmer then out in the open" Flare said shivering as he tried to warm up near the fire

Draco snored slightly as he was covered sliughtly in snow. "Is it time to wake up?" Draco asked aloud as he stood up slowly. he walked from the fire and shook off the snow from his fur and mane. He really hated waking up early but now he needed coffee and there was none around. Draco coughed slightly as he walked back to the group "Morning everypony sleep well?"

"Not really...do you thin we should have made camp in a cave" Flare asked. "I mean it still would be cold but at least we wouldnt be freezing...or frozen...or even as cold then being outside and also I hate snow at times...this is one of those time I really hate it"  Flare said

Melody woke up slowly and walked out of her tent to join the rest of the group at the campfire. She sat down and noticed that she was shivering terribly. Trying to stick close to the fire to start warming up. "I'm in agreement with Flare we should've thought about finding a cave or something. Tents just didn't cut it when it came to last night." Melody was starting to wish she hadn't joined up on this mission but she didn't want to disappoint the King and Queen of the Crystal Empire. Melody moved a little closer to Flare. "Is it ok if I'm this close to you Flare?"

"I don't think there is a cave nearby but it was getting late. Honestly I'm kicking my flank for that. Some courier pony I am eh?" Draco said with a laugh. He looked at the mare getting close to Flare. He want to tease them but Draco was thinking about something. "You know you tywo look cute together,"

"It's ok Melody" Flare said smiling. "Your right there doesn't seem to be a cave anywhere...would have been useful though" Flare said as he looked around and thought. "Maybe if I did go up the mountain i probably would have found a cave but I chose to stay here" Flare said.

Delia gazed at Pia."Ah, you are awake. Did you sleep well? I hope i wasnt a bother during the night." She said as she shifted around. She tried to warm up her body through small muscle contractions she was taught in her village. "Come, it sounds like the rest are awake. We can start a fire and get warmed if. If there isn't a fire already." She said

Melody scooted a little closer to Flare and soon was leaning up against him. She figured she was going a little far but she was really wanting to get warm. "Don't worry about it Flare. You stayed with the group that's what's important right now." Her sapphire blue eyes gazed into Flare's crimson eyes. "Besides what if something would've happened to you none of us would've known where to start looking."

Even Pia's voice sounded raspy as she was still tired and cold. "I slept fine considering the situation." she answered. 

 

Pia stretched once more and slowly got up. She stumbled out of the tent and next to the fire, soon the warmth spread over her and she began to regain feeling in her limbs. "It's probably better you didn't go Flare, not even finding a cave would have been worth the risk. Perhaps we'll be able to find one tonight though." Pia didn't even want to think about another night in the chilly tent.

"Yeah I'm glad i stayed I would probably be suffering form hypothermia if I left the group" Flare said. "Hopefully we will find a cave on our way up the mountain...three day trek up there...the things i sign up for...this one has got to be the one that sets it apart" Flare said jokingly.

"Your not the only one Flare. So glad I had a fire here," Draco said as he looked at the group of ponies. "I think we need to get going towards that outpost to get some extra supplies. And it's better than staying out in the cold no?" Draco said as he looked at Delia then to the rest. Draco looked at Delia slightly "Alittle cold there Delia?"

"I agree wit Draco we should head to the outpost so we can get supplies" Flare said as he looked at the group of ponies. "Plus I usually like the cold...I guess its starting to hate me now" Flare said jokingly. "Anyways once this is over I guess life will go back to normal...I might take up guitar after this" Flare said

Delia stepped outside of the tent and heard Draco's statement and question. I will have to hide my suffering from the Pony Folk like a good Zebra leader should. She thought as she began to respond to the red Pegasus.  "I am fine, my people have faced a lot worse weather conditions. Also judging by that building you call an outpost, i would say its abandoned. Plus the Guard mentioned nothing of an outpost near here."  she said as she trotted over to the group.

Draco sighed slightly then looked to Delia "Hmm Delia tell me about where your from and how zebra's lead I'm curious because here pony leaders really don't care if you show weakness or emotions," Draco said as he walked over to her. "So stubborn of a personality. Well this'll be a challenge," He thought to himself then said "Well you might never know maybe it's been recently abandonded and left food and hopefully cofee"

A raised mound of snow near the fire began to shake. After a few seconds, the snow stopped shaking and burst open with Jolt erupting from inside.

 

"Morning everyone!"

 

Jolt looked at where he had been sleeping.

 

"Wow. I now know what it is like to be buried alive."

 

Jolt shook the snow off of himself and flapped his wings. He overheard a conversation between Delia and Draco about going Scout an outpost for supplies and food.

 

"Say, Mr O'mally, if you want, I will come with you for the scouting trip. I need some adventure and in case there is something dangerous in the outpost, I don't want you to face it alone."

"Sure I can always use a meat shield," Draco said with a joking tone as he nodded to Jolt to come along with him. "I'm just joking Jolt yeah I could use some company. And it'll give us time to get to know one another," he said as he started to walk towards the outpost. "You know Jolt being a courier is quite difficult especially if your doing it alone,"

Melody was enjoying leaning up against Flare he was keeping her nice and warm. She had to agree with him the things that they'd signed up for, they were beyond anyponies comprehension. She perked her ears up when she heard Flare mention guitar. "Oh if you want you can join my band. We're always looking for new talent." Melody smiled. It was then that she heard Draco's comment to Jolt, "Th...That's terrible. Why would you say that even if you're joking?" Melody glared at Draco her ears tilted back.

Jolt trotted over to Draco but slowed down when he reached him.

 

"What do you mean by difficult? In what ways in being a courier difficult? Is it paperwork, heavy cargo, keeping your cool on a bad day or what?

 

Jolt heard Melody talking about Draco's earlier "meat shield" joke.

 

"Please, Miss Melody, don't be alarmed. I'm sure the situation will not go wrong enough to require a sacrifice."

 

Jolt turned back to Draco and said,

 

"Anyway, let's get going. Supplies and things aren't going to walk up to us and present themselves."

"How true. Anyhow being a courier is difficut because it wears on you. Despite seeing my customers happy faces I barely get respect from them. Heh I enjoy it f course but I hardly get time to my self and I'm tired," Draco said as he looked into the outpost. He sighed and said "Look I know I'm not much of a leader but I'll try to help all of us out. Oh! hey look military rations. They may taste aweful but they are practical. let's see what else," Draco said as he looked around. "We'll need bandages, splints, and healing potions. So Jolt go to the infirmiry and see if you can find anything,"

"Really now that would be great" Flare said answering Melody's question till he heard what Draco said. "Thats not even funny why would you say that at all" Flare said as he watched Draco head off to the outpost. "Well should we wait for him before we go up the mountains" Frost asked everypony else

Melody smiled when she heard the enthusiasm in his voice at her offer. For some reason it made her heart skip a beat and made her ears perk up. "Well once this is over you're more than welcome to join us." Melody turned and watched as Draco headed off towards the outpost. "I don't know what we should do. I wouldn't want to leave Draco and Jolt behind we don't know what kind of dangers are out here." She didn't like what Draco had said to Jolt but she didn't want to condemn anypony to these conditions alone.

"Well we cant just leave them...but we cant stay here to wait for them unless we want to stay in the snow longer then we have to" Flare said. "Then again Draco is fine on his own he left the group before and came back...what should we do" Flare asked not sure what to do
