[Nightfall 3,950]

Star nodded and happily trotted into the bakery but then she stopped and turned to look at Nightfall. "You...don't think that  having pie would be bad for the baby would it ? I heard somewhere that you should eat healthily when you're pregnant...but I guess a little bit wouldn't hurt." She said, her eyes resting on a fresh blueberry pie that looked as if it had just come out of the oven.

"I'm not sure that you have to eat healthy when your pregnant. I mean, of course you can't eat unhealthy all the time, but this pie shouldn't hurt the baby."

He followed her sight, and looked at the blueberry pie. He looked back at her and smiled.

"Three slices of blueberry pie, please."

The baker gave him the three pieces, and he took out the money necessary and gave it to the baker. He turned to Start and held the door open for her.

"There's one for me, and two for you, in case you get a late night craving or something."

Star smiled and nuzzled him. "You know exactly what I am thinking...Nightfall...today has got to be the best day of my life...apart from the day when we met of course. But it sure is close." She said, chuckling and happily walking out the door.

Red saw the door open, and kicked into fighting stance. He waited for the mare to come out first. She didn't look to either side. Obviously thought she was safe. Heh. When Nightfall came out and saw him, Red dove onto him and drew his knife. Raising it above the alicorn's throat, madness dancing in his eyes, Red said, "I've vaited a vile for zis!"

Star screamed as the pony dived at Nightfall...in the middle of a crowded street. She did the first thing that came to mind and bucked the pony as hard as she could in the side of his chest. The ponies around the street screamed and scrambled around, some yelling for the guards.

Lite and Oril went and took a seat, with Lite ordering a light mango margarita, Oril just sitting there not ordering anything. "Oh, a band member.... Interesting... And, as for me and Oril here, we are of a far away land.. Really hard to pronounce on hoof, so I'll spare you the air of trying to know."

Man, he really knew how to pick the exotic ones, didn't he? Frost smiled, following suit and sitting down opposite of her. "That sounds...quite fascinating," he replied, showing genuine interest. He always enjoyed a good story about a faraway land (not taking into factor the lyrics of a certain song that he and the others played out of boredom and to show off), but now didn't appear to be the time. "I'm from Cloudsdale, the cloud city above Ponyville, though we've toured out so far as Manehatten and Fillydephia. Trying to get out to Las Pegas when I get the chance, but it...probably won't be anytime soon." His trained ears began to pick up on a noise coming from the market district. It started out low, which he dismissed as the usual haggling and fun of running a store or a stand.

 

Except that only really happened in Ponyville. The regals here would probably only raise their voices if they were getting robbed...

 

The noise seemed to grow in the next few seconds. That...probably wasn't normal. "Do you...hear something?"

Frost blinked, turning back towards the way he had just come from. "Sounds like it's coming from the marketplace. Let's go check it out." The gray pegasus took to the sky, downing his Sparkle-Cola in a single gulp and bolting back towards the market. There seemed to be some kind of commotion in the streets, a brown earth pony was attacking a familiar-looking blue alicorn...

 

"Nightfall!"

 

This...didn't look good. The assaulting pony held a knife in his teeth, leveled with his friend's throat. But what could he do? Well, besides smashing his guitar upside the attacker's skull. Besides, that wouldn't work. His mind was flashing all sorts of warnings, including the fact that he fudged up his date. Again.

Standoff heard the commotion from a block away and started running for the market. Red had always been agile, but he was terrible at subtlety...

Ocean heard screams but didn't think anything of it...she just kept reading, waiting for a customer.

The blue pony from before dashed onto the scene and muttered in the mad one's ear, and they both ran for the roofs.

 

As they ran, Standoff berated Red. "Oh my god, remind me to never let you go on your own revenge missions ever again! What if a guard had recognized you? They CAN'T know Hailfire's back in town!"

Star started to panic. Nightfall said he was okay but she felt scared...the day they found out she was pregnant and Nightfall got stabbed by some idiotic pony. "We...We gotta get you to the hospital...now." She said, doing her best to help him back up onto his hooves.

He got up, wincing as he stood. But he could stand, as long as he held a hoof on his injury. He leaned against Star heavily and blinked looking around. He felt confused, seeing Arctic Frost standing there. He thought that this was either the end, or a crazy dream, but with the pain, he knew it was neither. He started back off towards the hospital, the pie slices forgotten.

"You... are a complete moron."

Standoff paced around the basement the two used as a temporary base of operations. Suddenly, he lashed out at the stone wall, chipping some flint off.

"I mean, I tell you an old enemy's back in town, and you don't try to get him with his pants down or anything! Do you WANT to have to move out again or something?"

Red grumped in a chair.

"Vell, if you'd TOLD me to be quiet about it, I vould have!"

Standoff sighed and turned to the door.

"I guess I'd better finish the job. No witnesses and all that. Probably that mare that kicked your arse too."

And with that he was gone, slamming the door forcefully behind him.

He got up, wincing as he stood. But he could stand, as long as he held a hoof on his injury. He leaned against Star heavily and blinked looking around. Star let him lean against her and quickly rushed him to the hospital.

She pushed open the two front doors and waved her hoof frantically at the mare behind the desk, who saw Nightfall's wound and called for a doctor who soon came galloping into the room followed by a few other nurses with a stretcher.

Nightfall lay down on the stretcher, and was about to be wheeled away when he got Star's hoof. He smiled, holding it.

"I'll be fine."

And with that, he was wheeled down the hall into one of the operating rooms, where he was knocked out be gas. The next thing he knew was that he was opening his eyes. He was barely able to see a clock; it said it was 4:45 PM. He clicked the button to call for a nurse. He wouldn't miss Star's appointment.

"I'll be fine."

She had basically cried herself out...right now she was staring at a spot on the wall, occasionally letting out a sad sniff...until she saw a nurse make her way into Nightfall's room. She jumped up and quickly walked over. She saw Nightfall inside the room...laying awake. Star's eyes lit up and before the nurse could do anything, she ran into the room and gave Nightfall a hug, making sure she didn't hurt him.

Star sat in the waiting room. She barley had any friends in Canterlot so she was alone. She had basically cried herself out...right now she was staring at a spot on the wall, occasionally letting out a sad sniff...until she saw a nurse make her way into Nightfall's room. She jumped up and quickly walked over. She saw Nightfall inside the room...laying awake. Star's eyes lit up and before the nurse could do anything, she ran into the room and gave Nightfall a hug, making sure she didn't hurt him.

 

Nightfall winced slightly, but smiled and hugged Star back.

"Hey, there. I just called the nurse in so I could ask if I could go to the appointment. I wouldn't miss it."

He looked over at the nurse.

"Excuse me, but is there anyway that I could get over to an appointment? My wife and I made one earlier, and we hadn't planned on this happening."

The nurse had opened her mouth, but her eyes widened suddenly at the mention that Star was his wife.

"Of course," she replied, walking out of the room to return with a wheelchair. Nightfall got in slowly, then looked at Star and nodded, smiling.

"All right, Star. I'm ready."

Nightfall winced slightly, but smiled and hugged Star back.

"Hey, there. I just called the nurse in so I could ask if I could go to the appointment. I wouldn't miss it."

He looked over at the nurse.

"Excuse me, but is there anyway that I could get over to an appointment? My wife and I made one earlier, and we hadn't planned on this happening."

After a few minutes they arrived and trotted into a small room with a metal bed in the corner.

As the door swung closed, a piece of paper was revealed. One of the doctors saw it and scrambled to take it down, hiding it from Nightfall, but he saw it despite their efforts. It said, in neat letters, "Do you know what it feels like to lose an eye, Nightfall? From S."

Star didn't notice the note as the appointment ended and they walked out of the room. The doctor said it may take a few minutes to figure it out or not but he was pretty sure they would be having a foal...but as happy as Star was, she couldn't stop worrying about what had happened earlier that day...
