What if Equestria Were To Fall Into Civil War

Hey guys i know its probably been one before but im working on a fan fiction concerning this matter any ideas to help me flesh it out?

Well I'm pretty sure that civil war happened during the first rise of Nightmare Moon.  That being said civil war generally is caused by differences in core idealogies between neighbors, family, and friends so that might be something to think about,.  For example, in the show everyone but Celestia and Fluttershy (later on) were against the idea of releasing Discord.  Now if he were to start his atrocities again and say Celestia simply ignored them and only cleaned up the messes (or had the mane 6) do it, eventually the populace would get tired of it and seek a figurehead to get behind and overthrough Celestia.  As Luna has attempted this before one could argue that she is a believable figurehead to get behind against Celestia (and arguably one of the few who would have enough power to stand up to her sister as well).

 

However, beyond simple suggestions and bases it is hard to provide additional ideas without a clearer image of what you are going for.  In the end though I hope my suggestions were at least some what helpful!

yeah man im just trying to flesh out ideas so my idea is like a  history repeats itself type thing where the 3 races are split up once more but im like who should be the bad guys the earth ponies, unicorns or pegasai and i want to find a great reason why  they betray peace in ponyville

While one is really unlikely, if one were to happen, like an uprising because no one likes Twilicorn or something, I believe one side would always be much likely larger then the other. Like; Celestia's side of the battle would have a larger army.

 

Or; Trixie would get some kind of power, and kill everyone. #SOCKS

You could start the civil war by making it seem as if celestia is not a capable leader anymore in the eyes of all the ponies. This is often the cause of civil dispute. Then you would have two sides loyalists vs rebels. Another neat idea is that twilight would be a loyalist but I could imagine if pushed far enough applejack or rainbow dash would rebels.

Well.

What if because the Crystal Empire was nonexistent for 1000 years, their immune system is "old", not prepared for the contemporary diseases, they get sick. So, Celestia orders quarantine, casting a spell on the Crystal Empire like Shining Armour did, and this is the conflict:ponies VS crystal ponies

The other one is similar, just about Cloudsdale, RD doesn't want to betray her friends, but since she is a pegasus, she starts a rebellion because instead of helping Cloudsdale, Celestia locked it away.This way, you could show the inner suffering of the Mane 6, considering which side to join. So, the conflict here is: pegasai VS Celestia + her followers

Any absence of rights compared to the other pony races.

Lunar conspiracy.

Food shortage: the same situation as last time.
