Spike and Barney?

Who else notices that spike seems to have the same colors as barney? I haven't thought of it until my friends at school sang the 'I love you'song. (Very weird friends) Who else noticed this?

Well, Spike's colours are very reminiscent to the Gen 1 Spike's.   This is probably due to the fact that Lauren Faust wanted the My little Pony Friendship is Magic to be a bit of a reboot to the original Generation 1 pony series. 

(You remember the first concept art she made? With the Gen 1 redesigns? :U )

I think it's just a common color scheme used for dragon characters. Spike reminds me a lot of Icarus, a very minor dragon character from the Dragon Ball series:

 

 

FUN FACT: Cathy Weseluck who voices Spike, also voiced Icarus in the 1997 and 1998 versions of Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might.

So green and purple are the most common colors for a cartoon dragon? Is that suppose to make them not look as mean or bad like all the other colors?

Barney isn't a dragon, people. He's a big purple dinosaur. I guess the green part could be a reptile reference, green can be associated with snakes and such. As for the purple, I really have no idea. However, I do like green and purple, either separately or together.

I guess they do kinda look alike, but only the colors. Other than that, not so much. Spike's a dragon, and Barney's a Dinosaur, so that's why I don't really think they look that alike.

It would be more logical to compare Barney to the 60s and 70s Godzilla than to Spike, honestly.
