An episode based off famous films.

I just figured, some episodes in cartoons serve as homages to famous films. Hell, LPS has entire imagination scenes that are call outs to films. With MLP, it would certainly be great for an episode to be based on a famous film.

For example, and this is a far fetched one I admit, an episode based on Gangs of New York, or rather "Gangs of Manehattan/Ponyville", focusing on clashes between the Ponies and immigrant species, ie Changeling, Dogs, Zebras, Griffins, etc.

"Is this it, Weevil, the Queen's new army? A few crusty beetles and a hoof full of rag tag moths?"

"Now, now, Pinkamena, you swore this was a battle between warriors, not a bunch of filly foolers, so warriors is what I brought."

(various Changeling and various species gangs proceed to appear)

“At my challenge, by the ancient laws of combat, we are met at this chosen ground, to settle for good and all who holds sway over this town: us pony natives, born right-wise to this fine land of Equestria, or the foreign hordes defiling it.”

“By the ancient laws of combat, I accept the challenge of the self-entitled natives.  They plague our peoples at every turn, but from this day out, they shall plague us no more. For let it be known, that the hoof that tries to strike us from this land shall be swiftly cut down.”

It may just be me, but I just really like this film. Though heaven help Pinkie Pie, or "Pinkie the Baker" when Weevil's son witnesses his murder at her hooves. I'd like to know if you also like idea or not and what other film homage ideas you guys may have.

Wasnt The crystal Empire based off Lord of the ring?

Anyways A episode based off Taken would be badass. Imagine it.

Or even mortal kompat

YES. Taken My Little Pony would be so. much. win.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for the Elements of Harmony, I can tell you I don't have them. But what I do have is extremely powerful magic; magic I have acquired because I am an Alicorn Princess. Magic that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my friends go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I...I will hurt you. Severely."

I dunno, that to me would imply that they're running out of ideas.  They've already covered homages to at least film *genres* in MMMystery on the Friendship Express.

Though a "Rashomon" inspired episode might be nice, even though that theme's been done to death.

I like it. And by that, I mean yes, why isn't this an episode yet.

If I may build off of your idea, I would like to have the discovery of one city be like this.

Imagine it. Changlings (Horde) and Griffins (Alliance) fighting each other, moving inward to a new land only to be interrupted by a mysterious Pegasus. The three exchange blows, only to let the land itself ease the fighting. Time progresses and tension builds between the colonizing species, leading to your movie choice.

Eh... I dunno about an entire episode based off of a famous film, but perhaps one scene based off of a scene from a famous film. For example, on your Gangs of New York example, that could be one scene from the episode, but I'd prefer if they didn't do entire movie themed episodes.

Unless it's based off of The Thing. Then yes.

They already did an episode like that. The episode Over A Barrel where the ponies and the buffaloes where fighting overland. So I don't think they would do that again and I'm pretty sure they would fight it out.

Still The idea of a movie themed episode might be a good idea. Don't know what movie would work, but it might be an idea.

Ah, that's a good point there. I suppose that episode is very similar to the idea of two groups fighting, although I think the whole gangs idea is a bit different in some aspects.

And I actually think homages to movies are fine, but, like I said, I think it'd be better as one scene, a cameo, or a reference rather than an entire episode built around paying respect to a certain movie.

That is a good point, though the issue of Gangs of New York was neccessarily about the land itself, but rather inter ethnic conflict and relations and how ethnic groups divide themselves into gangs. The Buffallo episode was primarily about land, not species, whilst here, the pony-Changeling thing would be primarily about species. I could well see the ponies tackling this with new immigrant waves.

Actually, they could have it with Ponies, Changelings, Griffons, Buffalo, Mules, Donkeys, and a few other races that have made an appearance; I know there's another topic going on right now about how each species feels about each other, and I think that could actually work here. The races all don't get along and they think fighting will settle it, when really they just don't understand each other.

Or something. I dunno. But like I said, I could see this as a scene in an episode, and not necessarily an entire episode based around the movie.

Alright then, but I just don't see the writers doing an episode this deep. Not to mention other races seem to be exacted into the ponies world very well. Griffons can enter cake contest, along with donkeys and they can even own houses. If anything the other races would team up with the ponies to get rid of the changelings.

Still after thinking about it, maybe a movie themed episode could work. I can see them doing a Lord of the Rings movie about the 6 getting rid of the alicorn amulet. So it could work still.

Yeah, but when it comes to large numbers moving in, even races ponies usually get along with can stir up ill feelings of xenophobia and nativism against pretty much anyone who looks different, regardless if they've been there a long time or even born there. But of course in the end, it doesn't matter whose side they are on, the end message of course is that such nativism and xenophobia is wrong, a message we're in need of nowadays.

I get your point about the Alicorn amulet, but then hasn't almost EVERYONE done Lord of the Rings by now. Don't get me wrong, if they decided to do it, I'll probably enjoy it, I just don't know what anything new MLP can add to it that hasn't already been parodied and spoofed.
