WarGrowlmon1990 94 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 This is something that I've thought about for awhile now. Each of the mane six has a cutie mark that represents their special talent. But each of them also has a singing talent. What I've realised is that, possibly, the cutie marks can also represent each mare's singing style. Rarity: her diamonds represent her ability to sing opera and other classical genres of music. Her singing style is sophisticated. Rainbow Dash: her lightning bolt represents her ability to sing a heavier genre of music such as rock or metal. We haven't seen her rocking out too much, but you can tell she's a rocker at heart. Rock music even plays in the background when she has her moments. Applejack: her apples represent a more earthy, laid-back genre of music such as country. Her special talent of farming apples encourages this, plus her solo song "Raise This Barn" is a true country song. Fluttershy: her butterflies represent a calmer, softer and more subtle music style. The songs she has sung are soothing (Hush Now Quiet Now, So Many Wonders) and the Find A Pet song reminded me of the songs sung by Disney princesses. I can also picture her being able to sing R&B, soft-rock and pop songs with ease. Pinkie Pie: her balloons represent energetic party music. There are many electro covers of her songs and she's got a happy-go-lucky upbeat personality. Her Smile song is more mellow however, so the balloons can represent any type of music that is happy and upbeat. Twilight: her magical cutie represents the fact that her voice suits any style of music. Like Fluttershy, some of her songs do remind me of Disney princess songs, but I believe that her voice would sound great with any kind of music. This is something I've been thinking about for awhile now. What do you guys think?
A. Hesediel 191 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 I've never thought of this kind of relation between cutie marks and singing abilities, but your reasoning amazes me! It's well detailed and structured, and also it's true, as we can see in their singing performances their cutie mark can be interpreted in those singing styles based also on their behaviors. So, concluding, your argument is consistent and accurate and could be about 95% or more true. 1 One should always look for a possible alternative, and provide against it. -Sherlock Holmes. True Rarity 1,240 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 I see your point! How come I never thought of that?Well, we can test this theory on other ponies and see how it goes. ...right now I can't think of anypony, but I'll be sure to get back to you! Rainblow H. Ash 5,091 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 Perhaps, but I think it also has to do with their personalities; after all, Rarity seems like the type who would like sophisticated and classical music, while Rainbow Dash definitely is the rocking-out type. Then again, their personalities seem to also have a relation to their special talents. so one could really say that everything about each pony is interconnected. 3 #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
Ganondox 899 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 Hey, Fluttershy also get's Rock music during her moments. Anyway, cutie marks really have nothing to do with it. They are related to the ponies personality which is related to how the BGM's and signing styles they are shown with. The correlation is indirect. Remember, correlation does not imply causation.
Somebody 570 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 This is a very interesting way of looking at cutie marks and their meanings! WG90 (you mind if I call you that? ), you must be a very musical person to notice such a correlation. Now, what I'm wondering is if this was intentional by the show's creative staff, or are we as fans just looking too deeply into things like this? I wouldn't entirely rule this out as being an direct correlation, though. Anything's possible.
duidamasterXD 9,627 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 It is an interesting relationship between the two, and thank you for pointing it out. I'm in agreement with Ganondox though, in that their cutie marks are tied to their personalities, which are tied to how they express themselves musically. I wouldn't mind hearing them break out of these genres in future seasons though. A soulful and introspective Rainbow Dash song would be amazing

It's gonna be like the best thing ever. The show is really severely lacking in Death Metal and Grindcore. What type of show for little girls doesn't have at least one? I mean really.

Ganondox 899 April 24, 2013 Share April 24, 2013 You know, I'm going to be honest and say that I would probably laugh for ten minutes straight if that actually happened on the show. Same. It will be the best night ever. The closest I've seen to that in any children's show is when they had that grindcore-ish song in Adventure Time that was played by Death. I don't know how I forgot to take their personalities into account in this thread. But that's another thought that crossed my mind in the past. Cheerilee did state that cutie marks are symbolic for the pony's special talent, however a lot of ponies (especially background ponies) tend to have cutie marks that represent their personalities as well. I've always had a love of music and have been playing bass guitar for eight years now. I'm still waiting for Pinkie's Deathgrind song. It's gonna be like the best thing ever. It's pretty sad that shows targeted towards little girls are lacking more rock and metal genred music. Come to think of it, kids shows in general tend to lack that type of music. Problem solved. Phineas and Ferb has quite a bit of Rock in it, including Metal.
