Spam Moderators

Just an idea, to limit the incoming spam/rethreads. Alot of them take a while to get removed, and this could lower the burden on Feld0. There power limits would probably be to removing threads and posts in certain subforums.

I'm pretty sure Feld0 will approach you if he wants you

O_o *looks behind me*

*ahem* (Before this post is deleted for being off-topic) I think it's a great idea! It would really loosen up some tension on Field0, and give some new people a chance at being a moderator. :D

Partially because a lot of people seem to have the annoying habit of responding and/or ignoring such threads and posts instead of taking a step toward actually getting them taken care of by reporting them.

Problem is..everyone will want to be one.

So if this were to happen, Feld0 would have to run a pretty tight shift on actually moderating the moderators.

I hope that we can eventually get more forum moderators as we grow, and those brave ponies that can take up to the task.

Meh, I personally don't see it as a problem, 1 admin and 2 oops Mods are plenty to control any spam for a forum of this size. Like Zoop here said, just report a duplicate. I think the mods are doing a good job right now controlling the forums, I've seen plenty of threads either moved to Cloudsdale or removed/locked.

Exactly, and when the thread grows, they will know when it's time to get more moderators in.

I haven't seen too much of this issue with members becoming full on mods and chat mods :P

This a hundred million times. Replying to a spam thread with something like "wtf is this?" - or replying to it, period - does nothing to let us know about its existence. If people diligently report spam and duplicate topics when they see them, the three of us can take care of them quite quickly.

Even Tom agrees:

You got this spot-on. Every moderator I hire has to be someone mature, loyal, trustworthy, and dedicated. The last thing I want is moderators who misuse their powers - and the more people I give the power to remove or edit content, the greater the chance that relations with one of them may someday turn sour or they may decide to play an "innocent prank" - next thing you know, a section of MLP Forums gets "remodeled" and people start complaining and leaving the site.

Even though the above is a worst-case scenario, the larger the site's staff team gets, the slower instructions and site changes will filter down to everyone. I'd rather have four moderators working very hard than 20 slacking off.

Who's Field0? http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

This isn't about giving people a "chance" to be a moderator. Moving, editing, and deleting threads is a position of service that eats up time and requires a consistent commitment. It's not exactly the funnest job in the world; and from my experience, the best moderators are usually members who never expressed an interest in the position.

With all said and done, we are always on the lookout for future moderators and add them as we feel they are needed. We are actually considering several new staff positions right now, as a matter of fact.

Same. Especially when I was new to this forum, I tended to reply to alot of the spam related threads, feeling slightly guilty when reporting them :P

I never felt guilty, it just wasn't something that ever occurred to me to DO. At least, not until people I consider friends started drilling it into our collective heads that it was the only way to get something done about it.

(You can tell I've attended some very poorly managed forums prior to this one.)
