movies/tv Requiem for a Dream

Has anypony seen this movie? I found it to be particularly interesting, especially considering that I was into some heavy drugs when I saw it. It's a very eye-opening tale, really.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, it tells the story of three young adults who are heavily addicted to heroin. It follows their stories, and tells of how they aim for greatness through drugs, and it shows what it does to them in the end. As a side-story, it also tells the story of the mother of one of the kids, who wants to be a famous model. The mother begins taking these special diet pills which are basically equivalent to meth.

I don't want to ruin anything, so I'll let you watch it instead of giving away the ending. I, however, found it to be a very enlightening and realistic tale of how people aim to escape reality through drugs. It's a B-movie, so it isn't particularly well-known, but I would recommend it to anyone who is addicted to something.

I don't have much to say about the movie since it was some years ago I watched it (like 3-4 years idk). Anyways, I think the movie is good. Some people sees it as disturbing, but nah.

And yeah I know the movie isn't that well known, but well

pretty much everyone have heard it's theme song

Never watched it, admittedly. Like Jokuc mentioned, however, the theme is very well known (to the point that it becomes irritating when you hear it so often. Clint Mansell is awesome, though). That's pretty much the only reason I know the movie.

The theme, Lux Aeterna, does have some pretty cool remixes, however.

I just posted the theme song, what's the point of posting it again? That's the exact same song but a shorter verision. It's not even a remix.

Anyways, watch the movie, it's a movie you'll not forget (though I kinda did cause my memory sucks) Hm now when I think about it I remember I thought it was a little bit disturbing when I watched it. Though I watch so much sick stuff nowadays so that movie is nothing..

I thought the difference was quite significant, actually. The theme song has many variations, including one that was made for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The one I posted was yet another variation.

Well the verision in the trailer of LotR the two towers was not remixed either. It's just been edited slightly to fit in to the trailer better. There's a difference between an edit and a remix (well at least if you ask me).

I know I'm right, I'll send you a pm

Edited slightly? Not really. The version in LOTR was significantly altered with a chorus and full orchestra. It was practically redone. Besides, I called the one I posted a remix because that's what it said on the title. I'm not an expert at music, but yeah.

Let's agree to disagree. No point in dragging this on.

I secretly watched Requiem for a Dream when I was ten years old and it really, really unsettled me. I remember shaking afterwards.

Looking back, I feel like it was probably one of the less accurate representations of drug addiction in films from the last few decades. I feel like Darren Aronofsky took the movie in a lot of unnecessary directions to portray the desperation of the characters. Instead, it came off more as his own desperation to teach viewers a lesson about drugs. I feel like a lot of scenes were so unbelievable and over-the-top that it really took away from the seriousness of drug addiction. I'm sorry I forgot the name of most of the characters...

It's so hard to make a good film about drug addiction. You can almost always tell if its just academic to the director.

Honestly, probably the most realistic depiction of drug addicts I've seen in film is actually on a TV show, and it's Breaking Bad. I've never personally done meth, but there really is a heart wrenching realism to it.

Also, if you want to watch a film with accurate representations of hallucinations, watch Enter the Void. Some scenes are dragged out way too long but the visual effects are stunning and spot on for hallucinogens. Aside from that, Enter the Void gets pretty cheesy and self-indulgent.

tl;dr: I don't feel like Requirm for a Dream is realistic and I think it's too over-the-top for shock value. However, I think Darren Aronofski is a really good director. I really liked The Wrestler and Black Swan.
