Radiance64 7,053 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 That can't happen. Sure, Twilight is great with magic, but the other characters are great at the things they do as well- Rarity's dressmaking, Pinkie Pie's ability to make friends and make people laugh(not to mention her other weird powers), Rainbow Dash's speed, Applejack's hard work, Fluttershy's way with animals- they can all do things well. This show has never really been how powerful a pony is in comparison to others save when villains are around, the show is largely, largely unviolent most of the time anyway. Besides, even if Twilght becomes an ultrapowerful malevolent superbeing or something ridiculous like that, there's no way she could ever use the Elements of Harmony by herself since they only work off of her and her friend's friendship in their current form. There's absolutely nothing to worry about...

I mean many famous authors used Mary Sues like who I previously stated Charles Dickens. Simple. Most bad writing(usually by bad, and new to the medium fans) tends to star one. Thus people assume a Mary Sue=bad writing. This is not the case, but the two are often connected. "The meaning of life? Humans create their own meaning. Slainna 15 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 (edited) If Twilight becomes overpowered, her friends will no longer be relevant. The show's entire premise, friendship is magic, is then blown. I would probably stop watching the show if it turned out that way. I think the writers know better than to do that, however, so hopefully, Twilight can maintain an equal relationship with her friends. Would they? We've seen how much a depressed Twilight even cared to fight when her friends left in The Return of Harmony. If she became overpowered to the point where she made them feel permanently useless, jealous, or both they would still serve a purpose; while they are her friends, they're not immune to normal emotion. She would either have to help lift them up or lose them. We'd see at best a broken Twilight and at worst an evil one. I'm leaving the fandom if friendship isn't magic anymore in this show and is more about Twilight helping co-rule Equestria with the princes and princesses. I'm pretty sure friendship will always be magic. I stand strong by my theory that everything breaks when friendship breaks in the series. Friendship cures Luna which makes me wonder what broke Luna in the first place. Isolation from friends was the secret ingredient in turning Rarity evil in the comics and dollars to donuts it's gonna be friendship that will cure her too. Even if the ponies went cold logic, there's solid precedent in friendship Edited May 8, 2013 by Slainna

She outclasses them in authority, status and power, and intellect. Has done so since the first day. No matter how much more powerful she gets- she will always be just as equal as she is now. They beat her in their area of expertise due to experience and the fact that Twilight is kind of a screwup. Edited May 8, 2013 by RWB "The meaning of life? Humans create their own meaning. Righteous Fury 344 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 I actually like that they aren't hiding Twilight's power or coming up with contrived situations where her friends can be useful.
Mr. White 71 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 No, it seems highly unlikely that she will have "too much power" and even if she does, that will not make me hate the show, I would continue to enjoy it.
Concord 1,982 May 8, 2013 Share May 8, 2013 Hello! It's something I hope doesn't happens... Twilight is already put way too high above than anything else... The sad thing to me is, that, the show itself is really cute and nice, but now with Twilight becoming a Princess, the show got much more girly... I was never fond of the "Happy Prince and Princess living together forever" thing in fairy tales, disney movies, and so on... Thank you MatrixChicken for the Signature! I was never fond of the "Happy Prince and Princess living together forever" thing in fairy tales, disney movies, and so on... Sleeping Beauty woke up during the birth of her second child, having been raped twice in her sleep by the prince. And then they got their happy ending, the rapist marrying his victim. Rumpelstiltskin, such a happy tale about a girl getting to marry her prince... except for the part where the title character shoves himself into her headfirst, trying to steal their child. He gets stuck, chokes to death, and both the child and the the woman dies from injuries. Fairy tales got a pretty, pretty makeover in recent times. 1 "The meaning of life? These possibilities would be the consequences of Twilight becoming grossly overpowered. The writers know better than to do that. They're not stupid, as much as the fans love to bash them. No, I think it's safe to say that Twilight's power will remain balanced, that her friends will still be relevant, and that the show's premise will be upheld. Sorry, but we already have proof against that. Why? Because of the fact that Twilight was overpowered as early as in episode 3. She outclasses them in authority, status and power, and intellect. Has done so since the first day. No matter how much more powerful she gets- she will always be just as equal as she is now. They beat her in their area of expertise due to experience and the fact that Twilight is kind of a screwup. That Twilight has always been more powerful than her friends has no bearing on their importance. She has always needed her friends. That was established back in "Friendship is Magic," again in "The Return of Harmony," yet again in "A Canterlot Wedding," and once more in "The Crystal Empire." The entire premise of these episodes is that teamwork--through friendship--trumps individual ability. Twilight's always been OP, but always to a reasonable extent, and never so much that it affected her standing among her peers. They treat her as an equal, not as an uberpferd, a ruler, or a deity (in effect, it's the relationship between the team captain and her teammates; one may be above the others in authority and ability, but all are still part of one unit). The Mane Six's mutual dependencies are what constitute an equal relationship. Twilight being the de facto leader, the most powerful, or the most intelligent does not have to compromise such a relationship. No, the question has never been whether Twilight has the power--that's something to expect from the main character. In the context of the OP: I have a theory, that Twilight's power is bottomless. But she has mental barriers that prevent her from reaching her true potential. When she was a filly she overloaded in a pure blast of magical energy. We don't even know her raw power as an alicorn LOL I can see it now Pre Crisis Twilight XD. But I can see it happening. Twilight will surpass Celestia and Luna and will become the ruler of Equestria and will inherit control over the sun and moon...After all her name is Twilight. An ability that would break Twilight is if she had the ability to phase through bodies.... Maybe pull out a vital organ It's the question of whether Twilight will become so powerful that her friends become useless. It's the question of whether Twilight's character and her relationships will be compromised. It's the question of whether the entire premise can still hold. And, it's the question of whether I will stop enjoying the show. To that, I answer with a resounding yes--that should Twilight become so grossly overpowered, the show would definitely lose its appeal. My fear is not power, per se. My fear is that power will overshadow the other characters. My hope, and my belief, is that Twilight, as an alicorn (and thus, an uberpferd, a ruler, and a deity), will still be Twilight, and that her friends will remain as important as they have always been. Slainna 15 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 Well I have no argument against personal appeal especially since I have no idea what your tastes are. I would agree with you that Twilight is overshadowing the others if the others weren't already hitting what would be considered "epic level" in their own right. Sure, Twilight is flashy but the epic level wizard is *always* flashy! Everyone has been leveling up. Rarity pulled a world famous fashion designer out to the boondocks to see her not once but twice and sold the shit out her designs and then not only pulled another pony couple's business out of bankrupcy and placed it directly into wealth. She can see the best in anyone and help them make not only a career out of it, but become fabulously wealthy from it. That's talent. Pinkie Pie is not only fearless but clairvoyant. Everyone is terrified but is Pinkie? Nope, and it's not because she's stupid; this one has ranks in knowledge: dungeoneering/arcana/the planes/etc. She disbelieves the illusion, laughs, and the tree spirits disappear. She recognizes parasprites immediately and recommends the solution. She senses a friend is in danger too so she speaks up, but she isn't pushy Fluttershy: epic level druid. Cmon, she talks down elder dragons. Rainbow dash out-flies even the wonderbolts. they're knocked unconscious what appears to be at least two miles below her not far above the ground without catching Rarity and she saves all *three* of them with no casualties. do you want me to crunch the numbers? She's lucky she didn't pass out and to pull that much weight after that? show-boating ah applejack. walked a tightrope to the freaking moon. also, can kick a tree so hard everything falls out of it. i'm going with epic level monk on this one These possibilities would be the consequences of Twilight becoming grossly overpowered. Sugar Pea 2,682 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 (edited) I would say it wouldn't be as fun to watch, but i'll still support it. She still has more to learn, Alicorn or not. I mean, if she becomes THAT overpowered where it's like "OH NO WE NEED TWILIGHT, OH SHE ALREADY TOOK CARE OF IT WITHOUT THE ELEMENT'S HELP!" than of course that would make anyone cringe. Right? But for now, I support Twilight. Edited May 9, 2013 by Candy Celebration ℓ٥ﻻ ﻉ√٥υ
Slainna 15 May 9, 2013 Share May 9, 2013 Well, my point is it wouldn't be like that. Ever play dungeons and dragons? Wizards are glass cannons and need their friends. Sure Wizards are awesome and powerful and throw fireballs and all that jazz but who's gonna be the tank? Yea the series isn't Adventure Time and they're not straight-up beating up monsters (as much as Rainbow Dash would love it) but the analogy still holds. Everyone has their place. We need our bards, rogues, monks, clerics, wizards, barbarians, and so on. Just because they're not all as flashy as the wizard doesn't mean they're not as powerful or less useful. Even AliTwilight could not take care of things on her own. Epic level wizards are still fragile for the most part. She can pwn much more evil with her friends than she ever could alone. Remember: friends are magic. I would say it wouldn't be as fun to watch, but i'll still support it. She still has more to learn, Alicorn or not. I fully acknowledge and understand the talents of the other Mane Six. My entire post was about the potential ramifications of the OP's scenario. Not merely overpowered in the sense that she's smarter or more magical, but overpowered in that her friends become completely irrelevant. In other words, grossly overpowered to the point of distraction.

I guess I'm just too used to dealing with DnD crowds who cry "nerf the wizard" or "nerf the cleric" at every turn. So maybe the real solution to this the is actually a few episodes playing up how awesome the others already are (because Twi def. isn't doing some of the things the others are) I'd love to see Rarity in enchanted diamond armor a la Minecraft but I doubt I'll see my wish
Guest May 11, 2013 Share May 11, 2013 I really don't like questions like these because they imply that the shows already going to be bad based on this silly hypothetical, you don't judge content until it's out, speculating about whether or not you're going to like something in the future seems rather silly in my opinion. Mzukiller 233 May 12, 2013 Share May 12, 2013 As a Twihard, I'd probably continue watching even if she stole the spotlight. But that won't happen, the writers may have taken a risk with the Alicorn Princess change but they're not stupid. They know when to dile it back. I am a Brony. I love being a Brony, Twilight is best pony.
