Shining blushed as he was dragged along by Cadence. Her words really touched him and left his body tingling with a warm feeling that only she could conjure. "I'm not sure if crystal ponies will like having steel in them," he replied with a chuckle, "but the concept is a sound one." He smirked at his wife. "Personally, I was thinking about something more a long the lines of what I'm good at. Maybe there is a permanent shield spell I can cast on all of them." 

 

When they discovered that Discord had been pranking them, the stallion scowled. "Come on Discord!" he exclaimed, stepping in front of Cadence with a firm stomp of his hoof to the floor. "I know it's your nature, but she's exhausted and doesn't have time for your games right now. We need something to put an end to this mess once and for all, so she doesn't have to work this hard." He gazed upon the god of disorder. "Where are the princesses?" The knight lowered his head as a wide grin crept upon his face. He knew Cadence would be busy with her duties and that the last thing she needed was Discord's distractions. "I'll tell you what;" he continued, "if you help us out, you have my full blessing to prank me to your heart's content tonight."

"No! It's alright. I'm sure that Discord meant no harm. I bet the Princesses are just in another room...wait, Discord? Why are you even in Luna's room in the first place?" Cadence said.

"To scare ya'll. I was hoping for a stupid pony to wander in who'd be completely astounded, but oh, well," Discord disappeared in a poof. "Celestia Trollestia, same diff."

Cadence glanced fearfully at Shining Armor.

"I wonder about his mental health most of the time. What were his parents like???" Cadence asked.

"I heard that," Discord said. "I'll tell you that they were perfectly normal chimeras..."

"Well, we'd better keep looking for Celestia," Cadence excused. They left quickly.

"Good idea with the shields, though.It might tirew you out quickly, I fear. I'm not sure that the crystal ponies would like steel, come to think of it," she remarked. They found the real Princesses in Celestia's room.

"Hey, Tia. We have an idea on the subject of shattered crystal ponies. First, Luna, have you found that jigsaw spell I asked for yet?" Cadence asked the tall royals.

Ignis was in the middle of writing his letter to Twilight when his door was busted in. The sudden shock scared the proud Knight down to his hooves. The quill that he was using to write to Twilight gave an audible tearing sound as it tore through the parchment. Ignis could only sit there in shock, his right eye twitched at that moment. Ignis looked over and could see the grey pegasus huffing trying desperately to catch his breath.

 

Ignis smiled at Wick, he was glad to see that the pegasus had found a purpose in life again. "That's great news Wick. I take it you were able to fly again." With Wick back in the game they were now stronger than before. Luna had kept Ignis here since she had to deploy the other midnight guards to saddlearabia for a protection detail. With Wick now able to fight again between the two of them and princess Luna they could handle anything that came their way. "Wick, now that you're able to protect others again I feel you should have this." Ignis stood up and walked to a cabinet. Opening the large cabinet, he pulled out a black uniform with yellow lightning bolts on it. It was none other than Wicks old uniform. "I hoped that one day you'd find what you were looking for Wick. So I held onto this until that day came. I've kept it clean hoping you'd come back to us." Ignis' magic engulfed the uniform in an orange aura and levitated it over to Wick.

He shook his head. "I can't fly yet," he responded, staring at the uniform, "so I don't deserve that until the time truly comes." He paused and held up one of his hooves, showing the unicorn the swirling mass of cloud vapor. "But, if I can get a cloud supply, then I think this will work." He thrust one of the cloud fragments into the air and brought one of his hind legs around to kick it as hard as he could. This was his specialty; this was his prime maneuver. If he could do it again, then somewhere deep inside, his former self was waiting. The fragment grew dark from the kick and a bolt of lightning jumped across the chamber into the stone wall.

 

Wick could direct them. His own form of magic was there, and the consequential glimmer showed in his amber irides. The look of a broken pegasus had yielded to pride. "One step at a time, right?" He threw the rhetorical question into the air and smiled. "The first time I did that for Laizzy, I think she smiled for an hour straight. She used to call it my spark." While all of his emotions had not completely settled, it was apparent that some of the weight had been lifted off his shoulders at least.

Ignis watched as Wick tossed the cloud fragment into the air before connecting with it. Ignis was quite impressed when he saw a bolt of lightning shoot out and move to the far side of his room connecting with the stone wall. Ignis had to admit, Wick did have a lot of strength and resolve and Ignis admired him for it. The white stallion levitated the uniform back to the cabinet and tucked it away carefully. He didn't want to do anything to damage the suit. "Well Wick when you're ready to take it just let me know. I'm sure Laizzy would love to see you in it again."

 

 

Ignis stood up and using his magic repaired the letter. He had a messenger bat ready and gave the scroll to it and sent it off towards Ponyville to get to Twilight. Ignis thought it best to find out what his princess was doing and headed to his door. His magic enveloped the door only to have it open into his face. Ignis grimaced when the door hit him, rubbing his muzzle. He tried the doorknob only to find it was a jello like substance and couldn't be moved. Ignis stomped his hoof on the ground "Discord!" Ignis yelled into the ceiling of his room. He'd had it with that master of chaos, he'd learn quick as to why he Ignis was called the lunar flash of the knihts.

Wick looked at Discord's doing and exhaled. "One day, Ignis; one day." He extended a hoof at the gelatinous substance. "As much as I find his pranks annoying, you got to admit that one is pretty good." He strode over to the unicorn and put a hoof over his shoulder. "Perhaps, we're all going about this all wrong," he stated, putting his muzzle towards the guard's ear. "Discord is bored, right? We can assume that's why he's doing this. It's in his nature, but we're the one's feeding him by getting angry. It's got to be pleasurable to him, so I think it's time that we develop a little bit of a different approach."

 

The pegasus had developed a wicked grin on his face. After feeling a bit of his old self, that speck of confidence was obnoxiously apparent. "Maybe, it's time that somepony, or a couple of someponies, gave Dissy a taste of his own medicine." He still had three cloud bands rotating around his limbs. "Why don't we have a little pranking of our own and show the god of disorder what a couple of bucking stallions are capable of pulling off?"

Ignis' ears perked up when he heard Wick make his suggestion. A sly grin formed across his face, thinking about all of the horrible things that he could do. Well they wouldn't be spectacular, at least not like his second in command Frost could do to Discord. She could make any prank on him look amazing and she kept him in check most of the time. Ignis wanted nothing more than to sow that infuriating Draconeuss up and give him a really good pranking. It was time that somepony else be the one giving Discord a prank, and Discord be on the receiving side of said prank.

 

"Well what exactly did you have in mind Wick?" Ignis looked over at the pegasus trying to figure out what he had up his hoof. "Does this include shock, fire, ice....no that's Frost's specialty....well?" Ignis threw random ideas out. No doubt probably making Wick worry about his mental stability. Ignis had been wanting to get Discord back for ages and now was the time to do so, and with Wick's help he was almost certain that they could pull a prank on Discord that would leave him speechless.

Wick smirked and whispered back, "No Ignis. I have something a bit more... dark-ops minded. We'll give him the psychological goal that he's always wanted; we'll pretend we're discorded, and when he comes out blown away that his tricks have finally pushed us over the edge, we turn the script on them and act like they've done nothing at all." Wick was thinking on the level customary for the dark-ops captain. There was nothing quite like pranking someone at the mental level. It was probably the only way to even prank Dissy anyway. Physical things would just be magic'd right out of existence, but something poking at the essence of what something wanted -- that was intangible. 

 

His lips curled into a borderline sadistic grin as he started to pull away from the unicorn guard. The gears were undoubtedly turning, trying to figure out what should be said, how it should be done, and the manner in which the counter would be ultimately delivered. It seemed like a pretty good plan. He and Ignis could yell at each other, and the worst thing that could happen is Discord would just not buy it -- or someone else would hear them and temporarily think they were serious. Either way, the potential payoffs far outweighed the negatives.

Shining grinned at Cadence's burn on Discord. "Who knows what his parents were like," he responded. "Knowing him, I'd actually guess they were Twilie levels of organized. It probably drove him to madness and that is why he has to be as random as he is." The guard chuckled and turned to his princess as they went to search out the others.

 

"Whether a spell tires me out or not is irrelevant," he replied softly. His sense of duty had once again taken over and left the stallion with a weight on his shoulders that could only be settled through chivalry. "Even if it's only temporary and I can't hold the spell for very long, at least it could give you and the other princesses enough time to find a more permanent solution without having to worry about broken crystal ponies." He brushed her mane lightly. "Cadence, I have to try to help you. That's my destiny. It's what I was born to do. You're already holding such a huge responsibility essentially by yourself. I am just trying to be your Shining Armor." (hehe, horribly punny).

Cadence grinned.

"That's what I love about you: you're always willing to sacrifice yourself and so confident," she whispered, drawing nearer. She pecked his cheek. "I'm sure we'll find a solution. I also have a bazillion already broken Crystal Ponies to piece together."

They reached Celestia's room. Cadence knocked, and the door slid open seeing how it wasn't properly shut. The Princesses Luna and Celestia stood inside.

"Celestia, Shining Armor came up with a brilliant idea," Cadence began. She explained the plan.

"Luna, you haven't found that jigsaw spell yet, have you? I really, really, really need it! Wait, do you think they'd have the spell in the library? Maybe in their ancient spell collection!"

 

<meanwhile>

"I'm sure that she didn't see! I swear!" a Crystal Pony whispered. "We never speak immediately after we're fixed. It's a horrible feeling, getting shattered."

"Give me the key," a second voice said. The crystal pony handed it to him. He admired it for a second before smashing the pony. It shattered again. He snuck down the hallway and fit the key into the lock. Cadence's studio unlocked.

Prince Bomar, son of King Sombra, entered the studio. He searched through boxes until he found it.

"The Crystalizer," he said. "turns anypony to crystal. I'm sure that the incoming dragons will be very, very satisfied."

With that, Bomar turned everypony in the castle minus himself into crystal.

The dragons attacked on a food-frenzy.

Shining's eyes widened as the wave of magic that left all of them transformed into crystal. He quickly approached the princesses and hunched over. A pink aura illuminated his crystalized horn. The prince hunched over, his normally relaxed countenance tightening into an anxious scowl. He put up a shield around the princesses as the roar of dragons prodded his ears. "This is not good," he mumbled. His mind raced with options for how to respond. If they had all turned into crystal, dragons were the last thing they wanted to see. "Your Majesties, please stay inside the barrier." He squinted and put up a secondary buffer. "I need to mobilize the guard at once." 

 

The prince had absolutely no idea how they were going to get out of this one. Something, somepony had made them crystal. With dragons on the attack, the situation had become incredibly dangerous. "I think it goes without saying that this needs to be reversed as quickly as possible." Shining Armor ran to balcony. The sky was absolutely swarming with dragons in full blown eating fury. Their greed was apparent. The stallion had no choice. He started launching attacks from his horn, desperately trying to down and drive away any dragon he could.

Ignis felt a wave of magic rush over him and realized after the fact that he was crystallized. He knew something was wrong "Sorry Wick but it looks like getting back at Discord will have to wait." He opened the doors onto his balcony and looked up into the sky seeing the dragons headed this way. Acting fast Ignis turned and blasted the door down. He'd deal with getting that fixed later, but right now he needed to get to the highest point in the tower. Ignis ran down the halls of the castle and up a spiral stair case to one of the highest points in the castle. It was here that he saw Shining Armor firing magic into the sky at the dragons.

 

"Looks like you could use a hand there brother. I doubt Twilight wouldn't give me a beat down for not helping her BBBFF as well as my Brother in law." Ignis charged up his magic and fired multiple rounds of magic salvos at the incoming dragons. He watched as a few dragons took hits and watched as some fell while others turned and ran. "Shining isn't there some kind of magic that could've caused this? If so we need to find out what it is."

Wick followed Ignis to the tower. He couldn't fly, but it was definitely still his job to protect what he could. "Can you magic some clouds down here for me?" he asked the unicorn as the arrived and Shining's barrier. The pegasus still had the three bands spiraling around his wrists. "If you can, I'll have a much better lightning stream?" He slid onto the balcony and threw the three puffs in front of the unicorn prince before launching a trio of lightning strikes into the sky. "What do you need, Sir?" 

 

"Ignis, Wick..." Shining bit as he continued to launch strikes as rapidly as possible. "Can you hold the line here?" I have an idea for a spell, but I won't be able to keep up the attack while doing it. This is definitely magic, but with the dragons here, my duty is to the people of Equestria. I have to do something to protect them." He looked back to Cadence and took a deep breath. His horn shone brighter that it ever had -- with the possible exception of his wedding day. He began to form shield barriers for every crystalized pony. It was exhausting. Canterlot was huge, but it had to be done. His body started to shake as he pushed his magic past his limits. At least they'd be protected. He pressed his hooves hard into the floor and grunted his order. "Hold the line, guys."

Canterlot was now under full attack by dragons, somepony had done something to turn everypony into crystal, Celestia desperately wanted to know who would do such a thing, it certainly seemed like Discord, but he floated through a door shining like the sun.
"Luna, what are we going to do? We can't just sit there and do nothing." Celstia left the forcefield that Shining Armor had put up.
Celestia started running lightly through the corridors of the castle to get to the library. There must be a spell in there.

<MeanWhile>
A wave of magic passed through the castle as Missy was putting a book onto a bookcase. The sudden surge of magic turned her into crystal, it also made her fall off of the ladder, her wings completely broke off. Missy was shocked, she didn't know what to do, her wings were shattered on the ground.
"HELP ME!!" She screamed.

<Back with Celestia>
Celestia was almost at the library, she had to duck behind something so as not to become dragon food. She had reached the library.

"Where's the spell? Where did i put it?" Celestia exlaimed. It must have been put in the restricted corner of the library. Celestia searched over there, sure nought the book she was looking for was there. A spell that repelled all dragon-kind from the immediate vicinity. But it had to be performed by two very powerful aliconrs, namely Celestia and Luna. Suddenly, she heard a cry of pain coming from the other side of the library. Celestia knew the spell now. She started running to reach whoever was in trouble. It was Missy.

"Missy, what happened?" Celestia asked kindly.

"I..." Missy muttered before being interrupted.

"Why if it isn't good old Celestia." Celestia turned to see a face she had hoped to never see again.

"Prince Bomar, you look just like your father." Celestia said sarcastically.

 

(Someone has to come and protect Celestia from Bomar. Who will it be?)

"Sister!" Luna had followed her. "Pr....Prince Bomar?" She saw a face she hadn't seen in a very, very, very long time. "I thought it was about time to show my face again." He paced around the room. "Your subjects will become my subjects and the dragons will help me enslave them." Luna and Celestia had fought with him before and they could do it again. "This is for my father!" Bomar shot a black crystal from his horn at Celestia. "Tia watch out!" Luna jumped in the way of the shot. Instantly her whole leg became crystal and it was growing at an alarming rate. "Quickly! Find the incasement spell and seal him in the dark Crystal." With Luna's last ounce of magic she summoned a crystal the size of a muffin.

 

"Nice try but you'll find I've hidden the book away" Bomar grinned. There was no way Celestia could find it. "And I've found it" Discord came from behind a bookcase. "Discord! How nice to see you" A sweat went down Bomar's face. "I'll be going now!" Bomar's horn glowed but discord stopped him. "You're not going anywhere buddy" Discord felt like a Badass

"Sister, no!" Celestia moved quickly towards Luna, her eyes turning a gold color, she used her magic to clear the dark crystals from Luna's leg. Celestia charged up a spell to teleport Missy, hopefully to where Cadence was, so she could be fixed before Celestia turned everypony back to normal. "You know as well as i do that Twilight would never forgive us if we stood by and let her die."

 

<Meanwhile>

Cadence was worrying, not about the castle but about Shining Armor, it was a huge risk to be out there fighting but it was his duty as Captain. Suddenly, Missy appeared with her broken wing parts and horn, she was unconcious now. "Oh no! Missy? Missy, wake up!" Cadence shouted. Missy's eyes were stuck shut. But she siad two words, words that sne tchills down Cadence's spine. "Help Me".

 

<Back with Celestia>

"Sister, we have to do something, we have to use the spell to repel the dragons. Remember the Great Dragon Raids?" Celestia asked.

"I know, but is it safe to use that spell after so long." Luna asked fearfully.

"We'll have to see!" Celestia's horn glowed gold and Luna's glowed blue, their horns linked together to perofrm this spell. A large wave passed throughout the castle and outwith it, sending away any dragons attacking.

Unfortunately, the spell didn't work as planned.

Shining huffed as he kept working on the spell, trying his best to keep the crystalized ponies shielded from the onslaught of the dragons. "Why can't princesses ever listen when you tell them to stay in the barrier?" he groaned. At least Ignis and Wick were doing a fine enough job clearing up the skies. "Make sure they're protected," he barked at the pair as his magical over-usage drove him to the ground. "Work already..."

 

Wick spun around to see had gone as well. Dammit, he thought. Why did it have to be now of all times? A few months ago and he would have cleared the skies without a moment's hesitation, but now, his strangled abilities were contributing to the prolonged danger. He did not have to listen to Shining shout again before darting off after Luna. She was his friend and was the only reason why he even had a home. There was absolutely no doubt in his mind about his conviction when it came to that particular protection, and the pegasus assumed Ignis would feel some similar sense of duty. He slid into the library, a pair of cloud fragments still swirling around his forehooves. Let's just say Discord was not the only one feeling like a badass.

Ignis was doing everything he could to keep the dragons at bay with Wick. It wasn't proving easy and to make matters worse it looked like Shining was having some trouble keeping the spell up. Ignis had to think quick, it was then he knew just the spell to hold the dragons at bay but not for long. Ignis charged as much magic as he felt comfortable with and fired a yellow orb into the sky. It stopped just in front of the dragons "Wick cover your eyes." Ignis barked as he turned away before the orb exploded in a blast of bright light. the screeching of dragons could be heard as they became blinded. Unable to see where they were going, and the added bonus was that with everything crystalized it made the reflection even better.

 

Ignis turned and went towards Shining, letting out a whistle. Suddenly Celestia's Phoenix Philomena came swooping out of the air and landed on Ignis' back. "Philomena, you need to go and get Princess Cadence we need all the power we can muster for this barrier." With a squawk she was off in a blaze of fire. Ignis then added his own magic to the spell. "I'll give you a helping hoof Shining until your wife gets here ok."

Shining smiled at Ignis. Trying to put barriers around everypony was exhausting, and at this point, the prince struggled just to stay on his hooves. "I see why Twilie chose you," he panted, his lips still curling to form the grin. "You don't have to worry about me, though. Protect the princesses; they matter a whole lot more than I do. It's the duty we were born to perform. Besides, I know Luna would want you at her side too." 

 

The stallion grunted as chills rolled down his spine. He had not even pushed himself this hard while maintaining the Canterlot barrier to hold off the changelings. While he had told Ignis to go perform his duty to Luna, he was quite grateful the guard was there. His added magic was making his job a lot easier, and without his presence, the prince might have drained his essence completely and ended up a useless, passed out pony. "Although," he continued, an added sense of pride towards the unicorn's presence and dedication, "having your help is  - beyond any shadow of a doubt - necessary for me at this point."

Cadence noticed Missy.

"Oh my gosh!" she cried. "Are you okay?"

Cadence realized that Missy was still a crystal pony. She focused all her fear and rage into one spell. Instantly, Missy was back together, but still Crystal. Cadence snuck out of the force field unnoticed. She slid down into her office to look for a spell. The door slammed behind her.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Bomar asked.

A thought blossomed in Cadence's mind. She charged her magic, turning Bomar into crystal and smashing him over the head with a book.

"Ha! Take that!" she yelled. "Revenge!"

She continued her search but found nothing. She began to leave, but Bomar's shards swirled around her, encasing her in Crystal. She tried desperately to stop him, but he held her fast.

"Now it's my turn!" he growled.

He began to walk, forcing Cadence to do so as well because she was inside him. From the outside, it appeared that Crystal Bomar had a pink alicorn inside of him, wings pinned at her sides.

"Let's take a walk, shall we?" he growled. He galloped up stairs and to Shining Armor.

"What do you think of my new look?" he asked.

"Help me!" Cadence yelled. It sounded as though she were underwater.

"Can't hurt me or you'll hurt her, too!" Bomar laughed, changing Cadence to Crystal as well.

"Cadence!" Shining shouted. He struggled to push himself up from the floor and growled. His beloved was in serious danger, and there wasn't much he could do. "What do you want with her!?" the prince began his questioning, the anger in his voice rising to a fevered pitch. His legs trembled as his mind worked at a furious pace. His stare locked with Cadence's. He was terrified, stressed, and mad. He would have felt that way if he saw anypony in that predicament, but the fact that it was his princess set his blood to boil. He would not allow this worthless delinquent the opportunity to harm her; the kingdom could not afford it anyway. There was only one with the power to reform crystal ponies, and that was Cadence. Without her, those broken would be lost.  

 

There was one spell he could use. It would be risky, and it would have to be timed correctly. "What are you doing here anyway?" he continued, buying some time for the other royals to figure out what to do with Bomar while he decided on his plan. Cadence had to get out of there, and there was only one spell he knew that would do the trick. "What left do you have to prove?"

Ignis glared at the stallion that was holding Cadence hostage. His eyes glanced over to Shining seeing him struggling to get back to his hooves. Ignis hadn't left Shining's side for this very reason, he knew that Luna was more than capable of handling herself. Helping Shining and Cadence took priority now. Ignis had to do something to help Cadence and Shining, he couldn't send word to Twilight about this and let her know her foal-sitter let alone her sister-in law had been possessed and captured. The only problem was that he'd have to drop the spell for a moment to strike otherwise he wouldn't be able to do anything.

 

Ignis started to weigh the risks and benefits in his head. Although it would put the citizens at risk, his light spell was still going and blinding the dragons. Ignis knew the benefits outweighed the risks. Ignis looked back at Shining his right eye twitched giving Shining the sign. With that Ignis cancelled the magic on the shield and blasted at Cadences hooves sealing them in place.

Both Bomar and Cadence were sealed down. Bomar was steadily hardening to imprison Cadence forever.

"I want my revenge, you foal! You two took my father! He was the only pony in this measily world who cared for me!" Bomar shouted. "But I want a revenge so terrible that you will wallow in despair day by day! Yes, I am leaving this measily world to another and I'll be taking your precious princess with me! Every night, I'll torment you with dreams of how you couldn't protect her, even with the most powerful love in Equestria! I will slowly start by torturing her now..."

Bomar began to slowly shrink. Cadence began to suffer from claustrophobia and took deep, ragged breaths.

"This is all very awkward," Cadence gasped. "But you only believe that you have the upper hand. I am the Crystal Princess, you foal, and all Crystal ponies belong to me. Even me."

With that, Cadence promptly turned to normal again and attempted to stamp her feet, but the dark crystal of Bomar cut her legs. Bomar laughed, changing her back to crystal and shrinking around her to prevent all magic. He then began to form himself more appendages from the pieces that he had been shattered into. Other crystal shards swirled around him, too. He formed a massive version of himself. He kept a thin tunnel of air through his back so that Cadence wouldn't suffocate. He laughed evilly again.

"I am sorry," Cadence whispered. I shouldn't of left the forcefield."

Shining's gaze darted between Ignis and Cadence. He had no choice but to try to perform the spell, hoping beyond Equestria that he still had the magical stamina needed to do it. "I won't let you take her," he wailed. He knew the evil prince was making the prospects of a magic solution all the more slim, but perhaps his spell would negate those defenses. It would be an even trade, after all.  If I pull this off, I'll be counting on you, he thought. "The princesses will find a way to defeat you, Bomar. Revenge has no place in Equestria." 

 

His gaze fell upon the cuts afflicting Cadence. His heart sank as he saw the pain they had caused, but that only hardened his resolve. The prince concentrated, and his horn gradually turned an atypical shade of blue. Please work, he repeated to himself over and over again in his mind. He could practically feel the presence of those magic cancelling abilities when Bomar grew more bold, but Armor prayed that his spell would slip through. He squinted, pouring all of his heart and soul into being her ultimate shield. The spell had to work. He could see no other way; he'd perform a dual teleportation spell and swap places with his princess.

"You didn't have to do this! If you came we would have cared for you here! If you left your evils way and broke the lineage that your ancestors made!" Luna tried to convince Bomar as much as he could. "There's no turning back now. What you did to my father is unforgivable." Luna was again slowly getting engulfed in crystal after breaking out thanks to her sister aiding her. "No! Enough is enough!" Luna stepped foward and with her horn sent a shock wave through Canterlot that expelled all the threatening dragons. "I see you remembered the spell! Well I think it's time for a little 'fun'" Bomar laughed. "That's my job!" Discord was leaning against a wall with a black crystal. Luna, Discord, and Bomar knew what this was. "I am not being imprisoned this soon." Bomar broke through a wall with A gint crystal that he spouted. He flew into the air and just outside of the castle. "If you want me you'll have to catch me." Bomar yelled as he flew off above the castle.
