Fluttershy was awake, but the moment she felt Colette slide under the same blanket as her, she panicked and froze like a little mouse. She hadn't expected that! Colette had been a cot last night. She wasn't ready for this. Was she ready for this? What was even going to happen?

Fluttershy didn't move, didn't make a peep, didn't change her breathing. She was almost too still. Maybe Colette would think she was still asleep if she didn't move. Maybe.

@,

Logan nods slightly, swallowing the bite of apple he had in his mouth before speaking, "Personality wise I doubt I'll change much," he chuckled slightly at the thought of how he might appear, looking at his free hand, bending his fingers slightly, "As for how I'll look? I can't rightly say that I have much of an idea on that, though I imagine it would be strange not having these."

Several minutes, various different fruits and a bottle of water later, Logan stretched, glancing out over the now darkened landscape once before moving to stand, "I suppose it's about time we started heading back?"

Catherine took the keys from Jack, and climbed into the driver's seat. Sticking the keys into the ignition and turning them until the vehicle started, she exited out of the driveway and began to make their way back towards the hotel. After about a minute she cleared her throat before speaking, "What happened this time, Jack?"

@@Hypn0ticD,

(... Why did I never think of this before?)

That.. Actually sounded a whole lot better. Angie stopped a few feet from the door and pivoted on one heel, coming to a stop facing Shawn. Making a face rather like this, she crossed her arms at his suggestion of just heading to his place. After a few seconds, she shrugs, "Yeah, actually, that would be awesome," she gives a thumbs up gesture briefly, before lowering it as she speaks, "Thanks."

(That link is to a video. Just pause it to get how I imagine her expression at that point. Couldn't find an actual freeze frame of it, so I had to resort to that.
Plus, if you're interested in Bioshock Infinite, but don't have the time/money to get it and play yourself, or just don't feel like playing it, I suggest watching his entire playthrough. It's really good - so long as you don't mind a little(lot) looting)

Rainbow Dash didn't need attention because of the stupid shit she did, and no matter what she didn't need the attention of some obsessed nerds over the internet drooling for every piece of information and stuff about their "waifu". Bronies weren't inherently good people, watching the show didn't nessecarily make them better people, he had seen the bad-evil-gross part of the fandom and he most certainly didn't want to end giving material to some crazy jerk in his basement wanking to such videos. Maybe he was a bit paranoid... but he just didn't think that filming her without her permission was a good idea.

He headed towards the closet Col mentioned and took some blankets, she made sure Rainbow was covered well in them. God she looked so cute even though she was snoring and stuff, he caressed her head once and was even tempted to give her a slight kiss but resisted. He thought about leaving a note... he tore a piece of paper from his notebook that he had in his bag... and wrote his number on it. "I'll come back..."

He then proceeded to gather the rest of his stuff. "See you later guys! Gonna take the bus home!"

(Yeah, time-skip. I'm going to assume they're arrival will be shortly before everyone else that's not a Mane 6 has left.)

"Yeah, there's always tomorrow." Logan said as he nodded.

He set about cleaning up their debris with the help of Applejack. Once that was finished, he assisted her off the rock, and answered her musing about whether or not Twilight had found a way home, "She's smart. If she hasn't figured one out yet, I'm sure she will before long. Just have faith in her."

With everything cleaned up, and a immense sense of relief and euphoria, Logan began to make his way down the mountain.

Some time later...

One car ride later, Logan was parking alongside the road before Colette's home and opening the door to the vehicle for Applejack, "So, I suppose we'll be seeing each other tomorrow then, yeah?"

Once AJ had entered the home, Logan returned to his vehicle and made his way back to the Connery's for the evening, spending the night in the car rather than heading inside, as he possessed no key and it was surely locked.

---

(Right... Dream sequence. Let's do this... You know what? I now have an excuse for some character building.)

Warm colors. Light streaming through the windows, illuminating the furnished sitting room in a winter light. A fire off to one side, crackling gently and giving warmth to the house. There's dust. And lots of it. Wind... Pulling the dust along through the air. The presence of others. Three to be precise. Stemming from each were multiple threads of various color. These were the trails of dust. So it wasn't dust... But... What were these? Waving a teal hoof, he was able disrupt the flow of the dust like particles of light, but they returned to their original form. The particles made up a web of shimmering, yet lightless, beams connecting him to the three ponies before him.

A mare, adult, unicorn. Beside her, an earth pony stallion, and between them, a young filly, earth like the stallion. These connections... Were they the love between this group? They were obviously a family, so it only made sense. But they connected to him as well. That was right... He was in this family. These were his parents and little sister. But why did he feel so different? Like.. Like he wasn't the same as them, "Can't you see them?" He asked, his voice feeling foreign in his throat.

The mare, his mother, turned her attention to him, "See who, sweetie?"

He shook his head, "Not who.. What," he pointed, "The lights."

His sister giggled, trotting over to him and lightly tapping his horn, asked, "Did you hit your head, Craft?"

He shook his head, taking a step back, "So you can't?"

Placing a hoof on his sister's chest, above her heart, he disrupts the beam of soft pink light stemming from it, "It's right there... It goes from there to me... And to mom and dad... You mean none of you can see them?"

His father shook his head, "No son... I'm sorry to say I cannot. It sounds to me like you might be seein' emotions, like some ponies 'see' sounds."

"Probably has something to do with your magic, deary." His mother said.

Nodding his head, He sighs, "I guess."

His sister squeaks, hopping excitedly in front of his face, "Oh! Oooh! Maybe that's your talent!! You can be like a... A... What's it called, momma?"

"A psychiatrist? Counselor?" Their mother asks, amused.

The filly vigourosly nods he head, "Yeah, yeah, yeah!! That!" Striking a pose, she lowers her voice as much as she can, "Hello, my name is Doctor Craft, how can I help you today?"

He smiles, gently nudging her and knocking her to the floor where he commences to tickle her, causing her to giggle hysterically, "You're such a silly filly, Midi!"

Amidst their parent's laughter, Midi squealed, trying in vain to swat her brother's hooves away, "Aagh! Stoppit, stoppit!!"

--

Time seemed to slow from that, and it blurred into a mash of color, which stretched outward and yet inward at the same time, before speeding up and all went black. Hearing came back first. He was in a forest, judging by the sound of wind through the foliage, and the faint sounds of little woodland creatures. Next was feeling. There was moss underhoof. A scarf was wrapped around his neck. There was a curious pressure and warmth on his lips.

Next came taste. He now had a good guess on what the pressure was. There was another pony before him. He could hear her breathing, and feel and taste her presence. Next and finally was sight. It was almost as simple as opening his eyes. When he did, he was looking into a set of deep lavender eyes, belonging to a young Pegasus mare of a white coloring, and a cyan blue mane. There was a faint tinge of color to her cheeks. And then there was the beam of pinkish light emanating from her. It was a darker shade, and seemed much thicker than the last. He took a step back, as did the young mare. She seemed surprised, and almost a little pleased, "C-Craft... Wh- What was that?"

None of this actually felt like it was him now. It was like he was just along for the ride, an entity inhabiting the body of a young teal unicorn stallion named Craft. He felt Craft's voice speak, "I.. I believe that was a kiss, Gwen." The voice said with a slight chuckle.

The mare gave a short laugh, flapping her wings a couple times in an attempt to fan herself, "Well, yeah, there's little denying that! What I meant was.. Umm.. What does that mean? You know.. About.."

He heard - and felt - Craft cut her off, "Isn't it obvious?"

That caused the mare named Gwen to blush again, and he heard Craft continue, "I'll ask it anyway. Would you like to be my special somepony? That is, if you don't mind being with a young stallion who's still a blank flank."

The white Pegasus shook her head profusely, "No! Er, I mean, yes! Yes, I'd love to be your special somepony!" She took a step closer and he felt her nudge Craft, saying, "But no, I don't mind being with a 'blank flank'. You're special and unique to me."

That made Craft smile and laugh and lean into Gwen in a form of hug, "Hah, thanks."

There was another voice, carried across the wind, "Craft! Gwen! Where are you guys? Come on! You're going to be late for the party!"

It was Midi's voice, he recognized it, though matured as it had become. Gwen looked at Craft, "Well.. Shall we?"

The teal stallion nodded, "Yeah. You go on ahead, I'll be right back. I left something back in the woods there."

The cyan maned mare nodded, causing the aforementioned mane to dip before her eyes. She brushed it away, "I'll wait for you, if that's alright."

He felt Craft shrug, "OK. Don't worry, I won't be long."

The teal unicorn turned and trotted away. In truth he hadn't really forgotten anything. In fact, it didn't seem like Craft even wanted to move, but something was keeping him from acting otherwise, or speaking out. Craft kept going for about thirty seconds before all around him seemed to freeze. All the sounds, the movement of the trees, everything. He took a few steps forward, when he found... Himself? Lying on the ground before Craft was a perfect mirror of him. Everything, even the little scar beneath his eye he'd received when he fell out of a tree when he was younger. And next to 'him' was another stallion, a completely pitch black fellow. The pony spoke, "It's about time you finally answered that call."

What did that mean? Was his thoughts, times perfectly with the voice of Craft asking the same question. The pony gestured shortly, "Your call home, Diliges."

"Diliges?" Craft's voice asked, "My name is Craft... And I am home!"

The stranger chuckled, shaking his head, "No, no you're not. You're not Craft, and you're not home," with uncanny speed, the stranger stepped forward, touching one hoof to Craft's horn. The pain that coursed through the young stallion was immense, but he couldn't cry out or pull away. As quickly as it came, it was gone. He gave the strange stallion a look. Instead of a black pony, stood a.. Was that a Changeling?! Yes... It was. But he didn't want to run. He felt.. At peace. He felt at home. The Changeling chuckled, "Welcome back Diliges. You're long overdue."

Diliges looked down at himself. No longer did he possess the teal coat of the unicorn, Craft, but the smooth black carapace of a Changeling. So this was why he always felt different. Always felt like he was just a ghost along for the ride. The older Changeling waved his crooked horn over the body of the unicorn at his hooves, who Diliges recognized as the real Craft.

There was a tugging sensation in his thoughts, and a light green haze clouded his vision. Shortly after, he finally realized. He was a Changeling. He was just a doppelgänger, living the life of another to gain the sustenance of love and other such emotion, as was necessary to a Changeling's survival. That tugging was this retrieval Changeling severing the bond between him and Craft. The unicorn would awake as soon as the Changeling released his magic, and the teal unicorn would wake up, remembering everything about his life. Any memories about seeing lights and such things would be just that , memories. He would no longer see them, for he was just a unicorn. Now Craft was free to live out the life Diliges had made for him.

While these thoughts flooded into the young Changeling's mind, he and his retriever had began to walk off, towards his true home. Diliges took a glance back, spotting Craft walking close beside Gwen, tails intertwined, as they made their way back to town. Diliges smiled slightly, "Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, you two." And he turned away, and never looked back again.

---

When that dream warped and eventually shattered, Diliges 'awoke' standing in a clear plane of absolute white. There was no floor, though he stood steadily. There was no ceiling, no walls... He was still dreaming. And he was still standing on four hooves. Yeah... This was certainly a dream. But... What exactly was going on? He was still in the human world, he was sure. So why would he be back to his natural form...? These were questions he wanted answered.

Things did make sense a little more now. Those past two 'realities' were just his reliving the past, very vividly. Diliges now understood why his feeling of being a ghost was so amplified. It ha felt that way in the later days of his life as Craft, but it was never that strong. He literally was just a ghost along for the ride down memory lane there, so it made sense.

Now he couldn't wonder. What ever did become of Craft, Gwen and Midi? Diliges speculated craft and Gwen remained together, and probably had a family of their own by now. That was years ago. Maybe even Midi had a family of her own now? "I will have to track them down and pay a 'visit' when I return home..."

Diliges said to himself, glancing around the plain, "But first, I need to know exactly where I am now..."

At Charles' house, Rarity was just going to bed. She felt tired, but happy. The suit for Charles was almost finished; she had only stopped cuz she knew she was getting tired and that her eyes and hands would not be as accurate as they would be the next day, once she had had a good night's sleep. Rarity decided that the next morning, she'd add the finishing touches to Charles' suit and then start on Colette's sweater dress. She hoped that Colette would like it; the design was plain, and not flouncy or anything like that. It was just like a regular sweater, but with a longer hem. Thinking of her design, Rarity dropped off to sleep.

~~~
Cicada was also asleep. She had gone to bed practically the moment she had gotten back with Shawn. It was strange, but she found herself dreaming of her life back in the Hive...
It was a strange feeling. The tiny changeling foal felt as tho she was reaching with her hooves for something which lay just out of reach, even for her hoof tips. The object was difficult to explain, it was something which the foal desired greatly, but exactly what it was, she wouldn't have been able to explain, even had there been somepony there to ask her. Something was blocking her view to it, so she couldn't see it, but knew that she yearned towards it. With a great effort, she stretched her forelegs out, and her hooves hit something hard. There was a barrier between her and what she desired, and the foal hammered her hooves on it til she tore a hole in it. Struggling to push her head thru the hole, the foal finally saw what it was that she had been reaching for.
Cicada murmured and turned over in her sleep. Such a dream would not come as a surprise to a changeling, but to a pony? It would be strange and perhaps frightening, for changelings did not reproduce in the same way that ponies did. Changeling foals were born from eggs, which didn't have hard shells like bird eggs, but instead had a strong rubber shell like a turtle egg. Not all changeling foals were cared for in the Hive, either. As a general rule, only those of the higher ranks were cared for in the Hive, by changeling nursemaids. Those of the lower ranks were taken out and put with unknowing foster parents, while the real foal was kept at the Hive in a special chamber. It was best for the Hive, as it meant that every single foal had a good chance of survival. Perhaps it was unequal, but then, it was the only thing that Cicada had ever known.
@@00Pony, @Ryuuguu Rena,@Pripyat Pony,@Dawn Stripes,@Ragin' Red Talon, Queen Chrysalis... everyone called her that when they met her. Like if "Queen" was part of her name.
@@Meteorite,
David was driving the car, the day was emotionally exhausting for her but not so physically. The call to sleep was otherwordly... softly tugging her like a blanket in its' embrace. Soft was not her sleep, and the past came haunting her like if it found a crack in her spirit during this day... like if it wanted revenge for the calm days she enjoyed in David's home. Memories came flooding her mind...
"Chrysalis..."
It was a familiar voice, but not one she remembered, it was the feeling of belonging that rushed her mind.
"Awaken my child..."
The voice was clearly female, calling her like amidst the darkness. She wanted to be with her... get closer... feel more that the voice had to offer. Something was stopping her, it was elastic in nature. While opening her eyes, she felt the liquid around her and the connection she had to the "thing" that surrounded her was "cut". She looked a bit below, her vision was "green" because of the fluids surrounding her, she saw a vaguely blackish tendril coming from the bottom falling down.
All of a sudden the feeling of asphyxiation rushed her. It started slowly but increased with intensity by each passing moment. She cried out for help, but they was no helping hoof to aid her.
"In this dangerous situation, find the power to break through beyond the limits."
She couldn't understand the meaning of the words, she could only understand that it was a call. The voice called her to overcome this barrier and be strong, but she was only just a filly! A filly faced with death no less! How could she overcome this barrier so early in her life?
"If you let your imagination restrict you, allow your mind to set a limit for your power, then you will have just let yourself trapped in this egg you are in... You have the potential... use it!"
There was another voice... male this time, strict but loving at the same time. It cautioned her and encouraged her at the same time...
Why was this voice coaxing her forth? Why was it provoking her? She only felt the thoughts as emotion, a bitter-sour music. A bright red aura filled her, heated her mind as her horn charged with magic and a small blast cut through the rubber-like elastic that covered her. The fluid pourred out and she came out with force, she expected to hit something with force, but instead two sets of hooves grabbed her. The fluttering of many butterflies echoed through the area as they flew away from the now empty egg.
The female voice softened and she felt a nuzzle in her mane...
"You'll be a great Queen my child... i believe it."
.................................................
The memories changed... she was watching, at the side of her mother and father, the process of recalling the changelings home. Her mother... Queen Metis, her father... King Proteus.
"Mom... why do we call them back home? Aren't they happy there? Shouldn't we just leave them there happy?"
"If we did my dear... in the end there wouldn't be any changelings in our kingdom. The original ponies need to return to their homes. But they have given us a gift... their love has made our changelings strong."
"But how can you speak to them? Why can't i speak to them? I know i can with you... but why can't i speak to their minds?"
"It's time for your father to tell you the story of Queen Amalthea..."  she says sitting next to her. Chrysalis mimiced her, turning the full of her attention to her father. Her mother took of her crown and placed it between them. Chrysalis eyed it with interest. It didn't have many jewels, but she always felt like it was a burden to her mother. Her father was caressed her mane once and begun...
"It all starts with the crown... Queen Amalthea was the strongest mind in all of the changeling history. She was so strong that she could listen to 10 times the changelings a normal changeling could. She learned to connect with more, and more changelings by each passing day... and she was becoming a better Queen by listening to their needs. But..."
"But what?" she says eagerly waiting the rest of the story.
"Unfortunately nature wasn't as kind to her kingdom... she had built an underground capitol. But earthquakes struck... and she had to lead her changelings away. There was panic... some of them were afraid and couldn't listen. She could not afford to fail... she gathered her power and cast a spell to listen to the hearts of all changelings. To be able to talk to all of them at once..."
"Wow..."
says the young changeling filly in awe.
"But it came with a cost... she saved the changelings... but she died because she couldn't handle the magic. The crown that she wore bore that magic in it... No simple changeling could wear it from then on... only the strongest of mind and soul can."
"Then... you must be strong! Like her! Heroes! Like the pony stories! Sacrificing themselves for the good of others!" she often got her hooves upon such books brought by changelings. Sometimes the other changelings would offer them as a gift, like her friend Cicada. She and her were close... playing in the forest under the supervision of her parents. Her mother smiles hesitantly... she doesn't want to kill her daughter's dreams so quick. She wants her to have a calm life, to grow in the childhood innocence that she deserves.
"Yes... a hero..."
.................................................
It wasn't long before she learned the truth... the changelings weren't a kind race... at least not kind by design. Give them love and take their children, a fair exchange right? But what about when the changeling returns to a love-starving kingdom? Make their lives perfect, an then kill your own? When the time of her coronation came it was a bitter moment, because even her own parents could not escape it.
She walks the dark forest dragging her hoofs  on the ground her mane rough and all the jewels that she wore torn away. Only the crown stuck on her head still hanging. She had spent her first day as Queen trying not to get mad by the million voices and thoughts storming her mind. She wanted to deny this gift, but at the same time she didn't want to give up.
It was her friend Cicada that stood by her at the time, the time she wanted to throw her crown away and crush everything. It was she who held back the power-hungry suitors who felt no love for her, and that she awarded her... She would be her right hand.
"I am going to reclaim everything that belongs to us... no more begging for love! From this day forth we claim the love by force! I won't allow any changeling to starve anymore! I promise you... on my dead father and mother... we will no longer hunger!
.................................................
She pushed the thoughts away... and woke up in an extremely white area. This was clearly not one of her doings... but there seemed to be others. She heard voices in the area...
"Alright! No more manipulating me! Reveal yourselves if you value your lives!!!"
Applejack appeared on top of a big, grassy hill. She looked around, wondering where she was. "Hello!" she called. "L-Logan!" she yelled, hoping she had not been separated from him and her friends. She stepped forward, realizing she was a pony again. "W-what? Twi! Dash! Anyone!" she called, but it seemed she was completely alone. Finally, over the top of another hill, her siblings appeared. "Applebloom! Big Mac!" exclaimed Applejack as she ran to hug them both. "Ah missed ya so much!" But just as she embraced them, they disappeared and Applejack found herself in a vast white abyss. What was happening? Was this a dream?
(Time for a dream sequence! None of this is a recollection, though, just something interesting I had in the back of my mind)
Twilight Sparkle hadn't expected this day to come, yet, she found herself quite warming to her newfound princess status. An Alicorn! How privileged she felt to be one of the few! As she rode in the royal carriage, she greeted the cheering, multi-colored sea of Canterlot ponies. Confetti blew in the wind, creating a storm of blue and red, as the bugles and horns blew a royal fanfare nearby Canterlot Castle. The carriage pulled up to the castle, which sat gleaming in glory of the Canterlot sun, which shimmered off the white paint. Princess Celestia stood on the balcony, overlooking the festivities. However, when she saw Twilight, she flew down from the castle and quickly rushed her into the castle.
"What... what's going on?" Twilight asked Princess Celestia, worried at her rushing."
"It's an important matter," Princess Celestia responded with celerity. The two ran down the spiral staircase, and down to the basement area, where Celestia escorted her into a room. However, this room was completely unlike that of the rest of the rooms in the castle, which were decorated with ornate paintings, arched windows, and a royal hue of paint. This room was completely white, with no windows at all. Sure, lots of rooms were like this, but this room was very strange. It had no windows at all, but yet, it continued to stay brightly lit, even when the door closed. As a matter of fact, there seemed to be no boundaries on how far the room stretched; it was a void!
"Twilight," Princess Celestia said to Twilight, "This room... It is a mysterious place. The origins of this gateway are unknown, but the only known thing about this place is that you can materialize your subconscious, as the mysterious force in here speaks the same language as your subconscious. Now Twilight, as a new princess, you need to concentrate, materialize your subconsciousness, and understand your true feelings. What you will see will not be very pleasing, but if you can understand your fears, you can become an effective leader."
Princess Celestia exited the room, closing the door behind her, and Twilight began to walk through the void. Soon enough, the room began to shift, changing colors, and eventually morphed into the floor of her library. However, it was not a very pleasant scene, as the mane 6 were in the midst of a quarrel, just like that with Discord. However, it wasn't a quarrel between each other, it was a quarrel against Twilight.
"No!" Twilight shouted, "What are you guys doing?"
"Oh, Miss Twilight," Applejack replied snidely, "Or shall ah say, Princess Twilight, Princess of..."
"Traitorness!" Pinkie Pie interjected.
"You... you monster..." Fluttershy added.
"How dare you do that to us?!" Rainbow Dash shouted, "We were your friends! WERE your friends!"
"And now, Twilight," Rarity adds, "You left us for... All those Canterlot phonies?!"
Rarity said that with a guilty sense of hypocrisy, however, as she longed for Twilight's life. Hypocrisy rooted from green envy.
"We're no longer your friends," Applejack said, "Associatin' ahrselves with such a varmint like yerself."
"Forgetting about your friends," Rarity added, "At least I didn't forget about a single one of you ponies when I was gone in Canterlot."
"We're through with you!" They all said, one by one.
"Wait, girls, but... what's..." Twilight stammered. They ignored her, however, and trotted out the door. Fluttershy turned around, giving her a sympathetic look.
"Fluttershy..." Twilight said through her tears. Fluttershy quickly lost this sympathetic look, and slammed the door on Twilight. She trotted slowly back up to her room as the rain began to fall, but such negative behavior carried over into Spike, who was enraged at Twilight for the same reasons the others were.
"Oh Spike," Twilight cried, Spike's feelings unbeknownst to Twilight,"What am I supposed to do now?!"
"Well, why not ask your Canterlot ponies?" Spike retorted, getting out of his bed and making a beeline for the door.
"Where are you going?!" Twilight shouted.
"Somewhere else," Spike responded, "Maybe one of the others might take better care of me, and not treat me like a third wheel."
"No! Spike! Wait!" But it was too late, Spike had already left. Twilight began to cry uncontrollably, smashing the group picture of her friends. Strangely, smashing the frame onto the ground released a strange, energy like entity of multiple colors- the colors of the Elements of Harmony! The energy ball grew and grew, until it completely engulfed her, and everything went black.
***
When she opened her eyes, she was back in a white void. She heard a familiar screaming; it was... Applejack! But why would she need her help after what she did to her beforehand, she thought to herself. She brushed it off as a bad dream, but it looks like she was in an even worse dream right now. Where was she, she wondered?
"Applejack!" she hesitantly shouted to Applejack, "It's me, Twilight Sparkle!"
@00Pony
(I completely forgot to post about Jack! Now how often will you hear that?!)
"It was... a dream..." Jack responded, laying his head against the window. He watched the sun set through the clouds, firing God Rays towards the surface. Buildings passed by, people continued with their daily lives: walking dogs, hugging each other, and having friendly conversation with one another.
"A nightmare... Burned to death inside the racecar..."
Just thinking about it brought back the images of the burning cockpit, the feeling of being trapped in a hellish wall of flames and smoke. He cringed at the thought of this, but he knew that Timmy and his family still needed him. He couldn't back down; failure wasn't an option at that point.
In her dreams, Rainbow Dash was flying.
No surprise there. Rainbow Dash couldn't remember a dream in her life that hadn't been spent on the wing, soaring through the perfectly misted clouds of a dreamscape not unlike a certain cartoon...
Cartoon? Memories? ...Nah, just the air in between her feathers, Celestia it was a perfect day, and she was so very good at this.
Anything other than a flight dream would be a waste of time, after all. Everypony thought Rainbow Dash liked to slack in the middle of training, but even while she was recharging to sweat even harder in to the sky, she was rehearsing in her slumbering heart of hearts. Her wings snapped and fluttered against hard and soft currents--it almost felt like the air was responding to her every desire. Perfect. She dove into a Fantastic Filly Flash that pulled out later than any she had ever performed, caught the spin almost directly into a buccaneer blaze, and proceeded from there to a free-spirited giggle of loop-de-loops, utter defiance of precision and airspace that would put a blush of shame on any hard-driven Wonderbolt.
Because Rainbow Dash flew for the joy of it. She galloped along the tips of gables, waking sleeping earth ponies below, orbited the rustling realms of trees and knew them as only a creature on wings could. Then she climbed, higher and higher until even the clouds started to fall away and the clouds bit the at the edge of her bristles, every nerve ending complaining just enough to remind her that they were all still there. The tips of her guidefeather started to stiffen, becoming just a hair's breadth less responsive, and she scowled a moment; mother had better be wrong about Dash having Neighnauds syndrome, because if she couldn't perform precision manuevres at high altitude, the Wonderbolts would make it tough for her to get in...
She didn't realize she was dreaming until, having spaced out a moment in her unrestricted climb, she had broken free of orbit--in outer space, that new concept to her, the thought that the world was round. She looked down on a blue-and-green marble and gasped for beauty, though her every limb was frozen now, gasping into a sparkling smile of innocent wonder.
"Hey!" she shouted, words lost in infinity. "I can see my house from here!" Echoes orbited the entire planet and came around to sing like breaking stained glass. She looked for her house, for Ponyville and Cloudsdale, but the only clouds she saw were vast an untamed. With a crinkle irking the edge of consciousness, she traced unfamiliar shorelines...
Africa. Europe. The British Isles. Names came to her unbidden. This wasn't Equestria. This was Earth.
Earth.
That was when Rainbow Dash realized she was dreaming. She sighed, itching to dive back into the warm dream atmosphere and enjoy her slumber while it lasted, but by the time she had made the decision, Earth was gone, and so were the stars. She was on her hooves, trotting uncertainly towards...Twilight and Applejack! "Hey, you guys! What's going on!"
@@Dawn Stripes,
She heard familiar voices, but not the kind that makes you glad to hear... it was the ponies. And she found herself oddly enough on her hooves... She found herself near her captain Diliges and togother with her ((OOC:Sorry for the slight godmod)) was Cicada.
"Hey... what's going on Diliges? What happenned? Why are we even here?" She turned around to look... and saw them. Twilight, Applejack and Rainbow Dash togother. Rainbow Dash... that freaking whelp of a pony, the sole reason for her being in this world... and they had dared intrude her mind.
"Oh great... the elements of Smarmony... how cute."
Diliges had been walking. Faintly, he could hear the echoes of voices from somewhere in this strange plain. Voices he knew from the present, those of his Queen and Commander. Voices of the Ponies... There were others as well, that he knew came from the past. The voice of his father speaking louder than the rest, as the white world gave way to the dark corridors of the Changeling Hive. His father had been the Retriever who collected him from the Whitetail Woods all that time ago. Diliges couldn't help but shiver at the memory flitting through his mind. The words of his father throughout his life within the Hive, "You're destined for great things, kid. You're going to be the one to break down the social barriers. You're going to prove that even us low class pony raised can rule..."
His father had been a dreamer, really. It started only a few months after his Retrieval. The old Changeling stallion's visions for change were ambitious, and completely far fetched. He had often planned on Diliges taking the crown, most likely through thievery or force, and proving that even the low class were worthy. Diliges had only gone along with his father's visions through a lack of knowing any better. However, on the day of Diliges' promotion to the rank of Captain, he knew that his father's plans would not become a reality.
Diliges had nearly gone mad upon donning the armor, which possessed a weak enchantment that allowed him to communicate with the members of his squad through the Hive Mind. Just the voices of those twenty some Changelings was enough to make the Captain want to toss himself from a cliff, but he persevered, and soon overcame the cacophony of voices. This lucid memory now was when he told his father about this, with the words, "You're an old fool, to believe that one of us could rule. I could barely handle the connection to a single squad! What makes you believe I could handle the entire race?!"
His father died the next day, a broken and disappointed stallion. Diliges had come to terms with all of this easily. He could care less about his father's ambitions, and was entirely content with his place. Once, he did contemplate striking down the Queen and possibly leading a coup, but it only took one look at her to remind himself of the loyalty he felt towards her. She had been kind in her dealings to her followers, each and every one, whether a high class Hive Grown individual like Cicada, or a low class Pony Grown . The Queen Chrysalis was a shining beacon of the care a Changeling monarch felt for their subjects. Diliges had little doubt that she had at least caught wind of his seditious musings, but she never confronted him about it. The Captain made up for his insubordinate thoughts with an undying loyalty and servitude to the Crown, if only for his sake.
One last vision shot itself across Diliges mind. in this one, stood a Changeling mare, bleeding and panting as if gaining a faint respite from a fight. In front of her stood a Unicorn stallion, himself bleeding. These two had obviously been in combat with one another. Diliges tried to move, and he found that while he did, he was little more than a wisp. This was a vision of something.. but of what, he did not know. Certainly not a seen from his life. He was just an observer to this showdown. The Unicorn's horn flared with a bright golden light, and the Changeling tensed, readying to strike. Before she could however, the Unicorn's horn produced a blinding flash and... They were gone. No trace whatsoever. As the vision faded, Diliges heard the faint whispering of voices, muffled as if coming through water, "I'm Kai'sa.." It was a female's voice.
Next was a male's, "Kai'sa, eh? I'm Justus. Suppose we're going to have to work together now to survive, aren't we?"
--
As that experience faded, the vast white expanse of the Dreamscape Void was once more surrounding Diliges like nothing ever happened. Standing before him now were three of the six Ponies. And a short distance from them, his Commander, Cicada. And his Queen, Chrysalis. Diliges couldn't help but smile a little. He had seen Cicada in her human form, never once saw his Queen in the flesh in that foreign body. But he felt incredibly relieved to once more see them as they should be, in their natural Equestrian bodies. The Queen addressed him, and he responded, "Oh, nothing much. Reliving the past and all that fun stuff. As for what happened... I do not know, my Queen. I can only assume we're experiencing a dream of some kind. Why are we here? Well, why are we anywhere? There's a reason for this, I'm sure. What however, I cannot say."
He turned his attention to the Element Bearers as the Queen addressed them, and he took up a habitual stance lest things go south. Military habits never die.
"Applejack!" she hesitantly shouted to Applejack, "It's me, Twilight Sparkle!"
"Hey, you guys! What's going on!"
"Twi! Dash!" she exclaimed, rushing at her friends with a smile. They were in pony form too, and Applejack was both overjoyed and excited to see them in this lonely abyss. "Do you guys know where we are?" she asked, addressing the elephant in the room. She then noticed the changelings, pointing at them with her mouth open in surprise.
Diliges managed to look slightly confused. This wasn't a normal dream. He knew he was dreaming, but yet he was unable to go where he pleased, so it most certainly was not a natural dream in any way. More so with the presence of at least three of the Elements, though he was sure the other half were all there as well. Two of them, the apple farmer and the prismatic maned Pegasus, seemed rather hostile about the presence of Diliges and his higher ups. Of course, that was to be expected. Changelings were pretty much the Pony's worst nemesis, in a sense. And then here they were, in some subconscious plane of existence.
They asked what the Changelings were doing there, and Diliges took the initiative in addressing them, "I could ask you the same thing, to be terribly honest."
He chuckles, turquoise eyes flitting from one pony to the other, gauging their positions, what he knew of their abilities, how they might go about attacking. Diliges comments, "It's curious, really. Not everyday a dream feels like a reality, isn't it?"
Pinkie Pie was dreaming. At first, she dreamed of rushing about the bakery, icing cupcakes with one hoof while working to fit the layers of a huge three tiered cake together. There was so much to do! Perhaps it was a celebration of some sort. Pinkie turned around as somepony tugged on her tail. The cute eyes of a foal looked up at her; it was Pumpkin Cake. The foal smiled, and Pinkie said, flustered, "Where's your mum, sweetie?" At that point, it seemed as tho everything went white as the scene changed. The white darkened til it became a dull grey and Pinkie looked around her, first in shock then in dull realisation.
The grey sky. The black and charcoal surroundings. The dingy house, with nothing bright on the walls, and the scattered rocks and tools. It was where Pinkie had grown up, with her parents and sisters... yet, this wasn't what it looked like, normally, and Pinkie realised, even as she thought this, that her dream was showing her the rock farm as she had viewed it as a filly. Back then, there had been occasional spots of colour; the flowers which her mother grew in hanging baskets outside the house; the toys which her father brought back from Ponyville for Pinkie and her sisters after the weekly rock delivery to Ponyville station; and of course, the colours which appeared in the sky at the start and end of day. But this picture was one of eternal grey gloominess, which the young Pinkie had seen even as she had yearned for more colour.
She sighed, heavilly, then her eyes brightened as she saw a group of ponies on the horizon. They were her friends; Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie broke into a gallop as she ran to catch them up, so busy that she didn't even notice that the scene had changed till she caught up and noticed that they had company. Pinkie looked from her friends to the three changelings standing next to them, and wondered what it was all about.
Twilight Sparkle, her friends, and the Changelings all stood together in the void. Nonetheless, the circumstances were confusing. What were they doing there? Is it a dream, or reality? It sure felt real to Twilight, despite the circumstances being so surreal. She was finally back in pony form, despite knowing full and well that she still had to get back to Equestria. What could be going on?
"What... what is going on?!" Twilight asked. "Is... everypony okay? And how are we back in pony form?"
They didn't even known why they were here? What force guided them to this place? This must have been crazy...
"It seems your ignorance and bliss is greater than i imagined. No matter... enjoying the human world i suppose?"
She wasn't exactly in a crazy mood to meet them although this would be necessary in the end.
"I know my changelings have joined your... party/gang whatever you guys call it. Before we talk about anything else, before you start storming me with whatever questions you have... i should make a fair warning."
She narrowed her eyes and gritted her teeth pressing her hooves harder upon whatever she was standing upon.
"Now i shall assume you all want to return home correct? I can tell you now that i am the only one able to grant you that wish. So you will be kind to me, you will not raise your voice, and you will not attack me... oh and if i learn that any of you have hurt my changelings even in the slightest.... I will END you."
She stopped and made a toothy smile at them frighteningly wide and she continued speaking with the calmest and sweetest voice.
"Did i make myself clear?"
Rarity at first dreamed a confusing mish mash of fabrics, jewels and, for a moment, a heartbreaking glimpse of her sister Sweetie Belle with Opal at her hooves. Despite the confusion around her, Rarity immediately leapt up and galloped in the direction of her loved ones.
"Sweetie!" she called. "And my darling Opal, too! I've missed you both so much!"
But by the time she reached the spot, both had vanished and Rarity sat down in misery and confusion. "Oh, I just want to go home," she thought, her heart breaking as her mind went straight to her sister, her cat, and her boutique. Of course, her friends were here with her, but they all wanted to go home too, right?
"Perhaps not," a sibilant whisper sounded inside her head. "Maybe your friends like it here. Maybe they wish to stay here with the special humans that they met here. You'd be all alone."
"That's not true!" Rarity shouted, leaping to her hooves and yelling at the shadows that had clustered around her. "My friends would never abandon me!"
"You don't know that for sure," another shadow said, in a spiteful tone of voice. "Maybe they've even met somepony who's more generous than you, who could wield the Element of Generosity better than you can?"
"I don't believe you! I won't listen!" Rarity screamed, before blindly pushing her way thru the cluster of shadows and galloping away. Where she was going, she didn't know, but she knew she had to escape before the shadows consumed her. Not seeing where she was going, Rarity galloped til she saw a faint light on the horizon. She stopped, squinting at it, and it grew steadily brighter. She trotted cautiously to it, a different pace to her previous headlong gallop, and saw with a gladdening of her heart that all her friends were there. Rarity, however, felt her heart sink as she recognised the changelings who stood with the group. She was standing with her friends when the changeling queen spoke, and she felt angry.
"How dare you accuse us of such things?" Rarity said to Chrysalis. "We wouldn't even dream of harming your changelings. But, can you promise that they would not harm us? Can you guarentee that?"
The frivolous seamstress talked like if she knew everything that was going on. She talked like if she even knew how the changelings worked.
"Oh look... a pony who doesn't know any better." She then started to mock the dramatic nature of Rarity and her accusations.
"Oh no... the changelings... help me the monsters are gonna suck my love... they're gonna hurt me!"
She put her hoof on her forehead backwards teasing the drama Queen of the ponies.
"You have done more than you know... you have killed thousands by your "love". Do you think the changelings got of easy in the aftermath of the wedding? Or perhaps you didn't see how those who got crushed on your palace's walls disappeared like dust out of your sight?"
She sighed and shook her head, it was no time to play games. But they should know... they should know the consequences of their own actions.
"You didn't stop to take a look at what YOU have done. So let me tell you... you defeated your enemy fairly... but you didn't stop to look at the world around you. You didn't stop to take care of your own injured... you simply continued organizing a frivolous wedding. I am surprised by your apathy... I am aware of my own actions, i have taken the responsibility and answered to my changelings... but you have just plain disrespected those that fell because of you..."
She grunted her teeth and approached the unicorn of generosity. She stopped right in front of her firmly standing her ground, she was not going to show weakness to this pompous pony.
"You built a monument... a monument to honor your defenders. What did they do to earn that monument?" She said bending her head and looking upwards and left. She suddenly made a face like if a sudden idea came to mind.
"Riiiiiiiiight.... they killed a lot of changelings. Congratulations...." She said clapping her hooves slowly.
"You've just won an award for the most ridiculous reason to make a hero out of a pony..."
She turned around and walked away backing to her original position. When she turned away she had lost her original "anger". Her words were calm, and she was herself... no pompous speech or attitude was apparent in her. She looked tired and dragged down by time.
"I can't guarantee you i won't hurt you. I can't guarantee anything at all... It is not that i don't want to make sure of this... I wish i could Miss Rarity... you haven't faced a hungry changeling. You think we're monsters now? You know nothing..."
