How To Get Fanfic Views.

I'm seem to be having trouble getting views on my fanfic, I don't mean people ignoring it, I mean it literally not getting traffic to speak of at all. Any tips on how to get views?

Well what website did you put it on? My favorite is fimfiction.net because it makes it easy to see new fics and you can join groups to selfpromote or learn to write better.

FiMfic, FF.Net, and DeviantArt, I kind use as many sites as I can so I can get feedback from multiple places instead of just one.

Wow, you're all over the place! I'd say just post about your fic on here and put links to it in groups on any sites you go on. If it's a short story then good luck, but novels get way more views, especially if you post chapters after intervals of time.

Here is pretty good and so is deviantart. I must warn you about FimFiction, I don't want to do this because I might make others mad and I don't want that :(

FimFiction has good stories on there, but there are alot of cocky and mean writers on there. I posted a fanfic, my first one, wasn't all that good. Instead of getting helpful feedback, I get pointless and offensive comments like, "Not sure if you're high or trolling." "My eyes are bleeding." "This is total---" Anyway I'm not trashing the site, I'm just here to tell you, be careful on fimfiction. I had to delete 3/4 of my comments and almost made me quit making fanfics. One of my facebook friends went through the same thing and her fanfic is great. I don't want anypony to go through the same thing. I'm just telling you.

But with that, I can't wait to see your fanfic :)

That was probably a while-back, it's quieted down because the head admin deleted the fic bashing groups and made a public "quit being douchebags" announcement a couple months ago.

That's good. But this was a few weeks ago. My story was even added to the craptastic load of stories group or something like that. But, that's nice to hear.

Yeah, that's about when he deleted those groups, if it's still up report the group. They've started cracking down on the hate groups.

I probably should then, plus I'm looking carefully at my friend's fanfic incase there are any hate comments. And how do I report the group?

oh my sounds like twe (train wreck explorers) all over again.....heres something you need ti do when flames hit you hard....embrace the fire....love and tollerance will not always arise...so here is a useful ideal...when they say this is crap or your a mean writer for doing things like that or thats sick...look over the comments, smirk and roll up your sleeves... 'they havent seen nothing yet,on with the show.' you hardcore troll...they say its bad? make it bad on purpose and make sure to leave notes as thankyous for thoose commentors...'I dedicate this peace of work to...so on and so on....' that way they know you will counter troll... Im a horror writer and we get a bad rep getting compared to cupcakes...ugh....mutilate one pony and your auto cupcaked....i procedded to in the next chapter prove my point as to why you dont complain that i made celestia a tyrant....kick the rating up to 11 and let the good times roll...ive released alot of fics on fimfiction my best suggestion to anyone there is learn to one, write not for the sake of getting views...write to tell a story simple as that....

You should just try writing more and more stories. Eventually you'll get noticed and people may start to like your stories.

Like everything it takes practice. FiMFiction and FanFiction are both great places to submit your stories at as you said.

Repost. People will love repost because that means that you care of them and some of them who have lost the link will be grateful.

Now for the serious answer, go to as many sites as possible, just like what you did, but actually that doesn't make a big difference. 's advice makes sense, and you better write more. If people like your other stories, they will look for another. If your writing is really good, they will recommend it to their friends, etc.

You also can recommend your story to your friends, and I doubt you will get pointless insults from them, unlike in FimFiction. You can post it here as well. People here are nice and their criticisms are constructive. You can write it in Google Doc and post the link in the thread. Writing the story in the post or putting it in a spoiler may make the formatting horrible, so I recommend you to use Google Doc.

By the way;

That was probably a while-back, it's quieted down because the head admin deleted the fic bashing groups and made a public "quit being douchebags" announcement a couple months ago.

That won't work so good. FimFiction isn't like this site, which has a good moderation and great rules about being nice towards people. Who are moderators in FimFiction? They just have four, for such big place where insults are likely to sprout. They're human too. Not to mention that the site isn't really NSFW. They need a better moderation to make it a nice place to live. :)

Posting it around on Fimfiction and F.F.Net and on here even is good! Then it sometimes takes waiting, and sometimes you just gotta write some more fanfics and improve and get noticed more.

You can also recommend it to people you know, friends and stuff, they might like it and spread it around or something who knows.

I'd just keep writing mainly if you can,  more practice means a better writer, and a better writer means a better fanfic, and a better fanfic means more people reading, more people reading also means more views and thus your goals are accomplished :P.

I don't think theres any magical secrets to it though. Just persistence and patience sometimes.

Wait, what?! Are we on the same FiMFiction?! O________O

I have never seen even a swear word--that is to say, used insultingly rather than jokingly--thrown at someone for bad writing, much less any of...that.

That was probably a while-back, it's quieted down because the head admin deleted the fic bashing groups and made a public "quit being douchebags" announcement a couple months ago.

...okay, that (mostly) unrustled my jimmies.

Still, whenever I use FiMFiction, everybody's usually really nice....it's where I publish my fics, and what I recommend for a beginning writer. They have groups--Authors Helping Authors is a good one--where you can review somebody else's fic in exchange for them reviewing yours, which seems like it could be helpful if you're having trouble getting views.

There's a side of FiMFiction which is like that. Even if they're really bad at writing, insulting without giving any constructive criticism is ridiculous. Also, if there's really a good constructive criticism given to a bad writing, it will be served rudely, and cockily.

Maybe joining that group may help, if it's really filled by nice people. Try to have it a visit then. Maybe a good idea. :)
