OC help?

Hello all!!

Longtime lurker, first time poster. smile.png

I have hit a bit of a snag with my pony; I need a name and some colour combos for her!

She is a young adult unicorn who runs a flower shop, living with her soon-to-be husband, who is a blacksmith unicorn pony. She has somewhat low self esteem, stresses out at a pindrop yet despite stressing out so fast and much, wants her bouquets to be as perfect as possible. She loves to do bouquets for weddings and special events, priding herself on the best combinations. She also takes night classes on foreign flower arranging. She is thrifty and caring, packing her stallions lunch everyday before going to work! She loves sweets, and her mother even thought she'd be a baking cake pony. But her knack for flowers and what their meanings and what looks good together gave her cutie mark what it is!

And! Her cutie mark is three white flowers tied with a ribbon. Lilly of the valley, tulip and gerbera daisy.

For colours; I like the pink body pony type. But then I get caught up in her mane colour! It either clashes, to me, or just doesn't look quite right. Or, a light green body. Then pink mane, but it looks too watermelon-y. Or is it just me!? Ahh geez!

Names; Do pony names HAVE to be based of their cutie marks? I can't think of any! sad.png

Thank you all very much. smile.png

Hmm... a dilemma. :P I don't think cutie marks and names have to match 100%. Sometimes, they are a little bit sneaky. Take Derpy for example. She has bubbles, even though she's a mailmare. :P

As for a name, the one that popped into my head immediately was Sweet Blossom. *shrugs*

Hmmm... I hate to loose so snotty, but... They sound cliche! Aagh. ohmy.png

Hmm, let's see what I can think of , maybe that'll help others help me lol...

I kinda of like the names Poppy, Iris, April... Calla, and in Callalilly. HA!

Apparently 'Cecile Brunner' is a rose breed you can't kill.

... Magnolia? I kind of like a Sweet & Sour name. Magnolia Zip? Tang? Zest? Peppy? FIERCE?

Any color ideas? >O<  I guess a name comes first though, too.

I've got a few suggestions, but I'm not entirely sure what you'll think about them. First off, if you keep the base coat a light pink, a darker purple/pink combo might be just the thing (sometimes this looks better with gradients, rather than blunt streaks). Then all you really need to do is mix some blues in there somewhere (like with an accessory) and you'd have a perfect cool-warm color balance. If you want to go with a darker pink for the base coat, I actually suggest using a white or a much lighter pink (or even an entirely different color) in the body (even though a lot of people feel as though this makes the character too "unique") to help neutralize the brighter, more dominant colors (you can also do this backwards with light pinks be accenting with darker colors). You should NEVER make the mane/tail and the base coat the same hue (whether it be a different color or not). Pink with blue hues and yellow hues also work well (but it's important not too overpower the cool colors if you choose to use yellow)

REMEMBER THAT RED IS JUST A DARK SHADE OF PINK

A few images to give you inspiration (Note how the white or light-hue accents add to the design)

As for the name, I would actually suggest simply picking something foreign that fits her well (this makes the name seem unique, while still holding on to the basic MLP traditions).

Pink ponies aren't really my forte, but I hope I've been of some assistance.

And right now I'm quoting you so that you'll be notified of my post. Simple, eh?

Wow, thank you for all the links!!

Before I comment and look at the links, I just want to make sure I understand your colour ideas... So, I'm kind of a 'spell-it-out' person, so... A light pink coat and a darker purple mane? Maybe a gradient to blue, then? I'm not sure about accessories... Maybe the ribbon of her cutie mark can be blue then. But, her cutie mark is white flowers, wouldn't that be too much of the same value?

I don't mind a green coat, or purple. I'm just wanting to make sure she's at least somewhat unique, and not too similar to any other ponies.

I like SugarShock, the circle gradient behind the cutie mark might be what I need for my pony.

Leily is adorable, but the pink/red is a bit too much for me.

Pinkuh is super cute!! The pink/purple is cute.

Thise are the few that stood out for me.

Name wise; Something foreign? I don't want to be weaboo and call her Sakura Momoko-chan, y'know? D: That's what I think of when I hear foreign, sorry! :( I think the name will be what's the hardest part!

Weaboo? LOL Interesting... You don't have to go with Japanese, you know. Why not Latin, Greek, or even German? The possibilities are endless.

Anywho, I wasn't really suggesting a purple-to-blue tone. I was suggesting you make the base coat a light pink and then add in a bit of purple hair of a darker hue (possibly adding a bit of pink highlight if desired), you can use gradients of both dark and light hue to balance the base coat. What I meant as far as the blue went was that light blues make for beautiful accessories and, if you make all of your colors very bright/light (rather than using very dark colors here-and-there), it can help balance the cool/warm tones. Using gradient on the cutiemark is a WONDERFUL idea.

Sorry, weaboo = someone who uses Japanese without being ... 'properly versed' I suppose is the nicest way to put it.

So, a light coat with a darker 'neighbour' mane colour? Like, light pink coat and darker toned purple?

Hmm, I don't have my tablet with me and my mouse-drawing skills are atrocious, so I might have to whip out that pony creator game and put together a few things...

Names!

I like Juniper, Magnolia, Bluebelle (If I give her more a blue ting somewhere this might work?), Arnica (Russian Flower)...

Yes, something along those lines, that sounds like it should work. Put up a few images and we'll see which color scheme looks best.

I always thought weaboo had something to do with people who were like...obsessed with wolves to a retarded uneducated state....er something

Well with your OC its your OC, so its hard to have someone help you really, its looks are kinda up to you.

I'm picky with color scheme myself, I toggled mine all kinds of ways. I'd just take two colors see how they work and adjust them to see if you can make them work better on the pony creator or something.

As for names they don't have to do with the cutie mark, they can do with any number of things really, their personality, color scheme, or whatever as long as it feels right to you.

Good luck!

Please disregard most the manestyles. I was just more focused on colour schemes! I keep worrying that she'll look too much like Rarity, or Fluttershy. :(

The colors on the first one are too simmilar as is....it has very little interest.

The second one is fine (still not my favorite, but it's okay).

I actually do like the third one and the fourth one (though the third has the most color interest, the fourth one has that pink and purple mix you seemed to like and, even though the colors are rich, it works out okay).

The last one is also pretty good, in a very simplistic manner.

Overall, I think the third design is my favorite, simply because the hues are the most visably pleasing (plus I like green :3) and they don't hurt my eyes. Although, you could always fiddle around with some more ideas untill you find one you really like.

If you like the fourth one more, I suggest adding a lighter hue to the hair to help balance the colors.

I actually whipped up a cutie mark I'm quite fond of,  along with a name! :)

That's very pretty, perhaps you should center your design around the cutiemark. If you make the OC primarily pink and purple, you should TOTALLY make her eyes green. :3

A few hours until I can get my tablet, sigh. I apologize again, but here's a mockup:

I like that pony color scheme I think the pink body fits. Though play with the shade till you are satisfied.

As far as mane goes I was thinking something a little more vibrant and bold. Take a look at this water Lilly I think the blue and yellow combo in it are stunning. If you could capture that in her mane, wow!

This looks very nice! You can play with the body coat as much as you'd like and, if you think it'd look good, you can probably play around with some other hues in the mane. And for you, I will draw her once you've completed the design. A properly planned OC needs a proper reference, right?

Juniper Flourish

Magnolia Pomp (means: Ceremony and splendid display.)

I think right now I like it! smile.png I might have to let it grow on me just a little, maybe make the pink a tad not-so grey. Thank you for all your help!!

Others hues? As in, gradient, or highlight streaks? O: Oh geez, what colours then for streaks!? img-1452878-1-blink.png Green, I think? (So indecisive >O< !)

I've picked a name I like, but wow, you're making it hard for me! img-1452878-2-blush.png

The name I've liked is Lula. It means Flower in Albanian. I'm not a huge fan of the cutsey-wootsy names, but I think I like Lula Flourish, Lula Pomp or Lula Splendour! What does Pomp mean, sorry? Cute!! Thank you!!

Oh you did? Haha sorry must have missed the name. I think looks very nice! Like I said though if you can give her that extra twist like that flower she will really stand out. It doesn't need to be that but right now if she was a flower in the shop or in a display she's not the one the customer looks at and goes WOW! She is a filler flower very pretty and essential but there are several others that are just a little too much like her already. But that is just personal opinion of what I made in my head as her being the really a center of attention in her store. She's your OC remember to make her yours.

What was the name you picked?
