The Previous Elements of Harmony Headcanon

So, we all know that Celestia and Luna used the Elements of Harmony to take out a number of villains, but I personally don't think they were alone. I believe that they had other ponies who wielded the Elements with them.

 

Celestia: Element of Generosity

Luna: Element of Loyalty

Discord: Element of Laughter

Chrysalis: Element of Honesty

Sombra: Element of Kindness

Clover the Clever: Element of Magic

 

Here is how I believe it happened. Some time after the founding of Equestria, Clover the Clever met a group of special ponies. A pair of sisters who were part of the group of unicorns who rose the sun and moon, their names Celestia and Luna. A strange but funny draconequis who called himself Discord. A kind unicorn from the northern Crystal Empire. And a Pegasus whose name has been lost to history. These ponies became the Element Bearers and were given positions of power in Equestria and the Crystal Empire.

 

Everything changed when their Pegasus friend disappeared. She was never seen again for she had been morphed into the queen of the changeling, Chrysalis. (Hence why Celly didn't recognise her.) Her Element was passed on to Celestia who now had to bear two Elements.

 

Discord was next. In a perversion of his Element he created chaos all around Equestria. His Element abandoned him and found a resting place in Luna who, along with her sister was transformed into an Alicorn by the power of having two Elements. Together the Elements defeated Discord and Celestia and Luna received all the praise and were crowned princesses.

 

Sombra was next. As he was travelling in the Crystal Castle he found a door that showed all the rest of his friends leaving their Elements behind. Believing this to be a telling of the future Sombra became angry and his heart was filled with darkness. Once again an element was passed on, this one again went to Celestia who used it along with the others to defeat her past friend.

 

Clover the Clever was last to go, she passed away with her only friends left by her side. Her Element was passed on to Luna and that left only the sisters to bear the Elements.

 

When Luna turned Spiteful and was turned into Nightmare Moon her elements went to Celestia who used them one last time to send her sister away to the moon. Unfortunately one pony couldn't be the sole harmony embodiment and Celestia lost all connections to the Elements.

 

Well..... that's probably not it but I like it.

Hmm, this concept seems to be popping up a lot lately. It was brought up here as a general discussion topic, and somehow I have a feeling there may be more. Unfortunately...

Lauren confirmed that Luna and Celestia were in fact the only two wielders of the Elements back then. She said she never thought about which ones they represented, but if I had to guess, Celestia would be kindness, magic and honesty and Luna would be laughter, generosity and loyalty. Perhaps being an alicorn allows you to wield vaster magical capacity in general; ergo why they each could use three.

I am under the personal opinion that a thousand years ago there were only two elements, but in the fight that ensued between the two wielders, their power was broken and they were shattered into six. The magic slowly seeped out of them and eventually they were weak enough that Nightmare Moon could break free. The elements would now need six ponies to restore the magic...

I am going with that only Celestia and Luna were the only ones that could weald the elements of Harmony and no one else. Besides Discord could not control one. He was torchering ponies before the sisters came along and used the elements on him.

My bad. I kept viewing him as Twilight because of the Hearth Warming Eve episode. Stupid, sexy Twilight Sparkle. Also, Nopony would have recognised Celestia and Luna after they transformed. Or at least in my mind they wouldn't. Edited May 22, 2013 by Half-Note

Still Clover could still not be a pony who controlled one of the elements. Discord attacked the ponies when they founded Equestria sometime later and Celestia and Luna sealed him away with them. So they would come during Discords attack.

I'm curious as to why a lot of people (and by a lot, I mean the two that I've seen here) say that Luna would have Laughter as one of her elements?  As far as I can remember, she's never shown herself to have much of a sense of humor while Celestia has done so several times (even going so far as to invite the Mane Six to the Gala just so they could liven the party).  Personally, I would swap it with honesty, since while Celestia has never actually outright lied onscreen, she does tend to leave out important facts (thus lying by omission).  Luna, on the other hand, is often shown being brutally honest, letting her opinion be known to anyone and everyone who will listen.

What does being recognized have to do with anything? You would remember 2 ponies who could raise the sun and moon. Also after reading your story it does have a BIG plot hole. 

 

For the elements of harmony to work they need all of them. They can't just use 4 of the 6 elements and think it's going to work. If that was the case Twilight would not need Rainbow Dash to make them work. Even if they are alicorns they still need all of them.

 

Still your idea may work. To me Celestia and Luna were alicorns at the start and had no contraction to the other villains.

Well, If nopony recognised them they would be viewed as completely different ponies and in Equestrian History it would look like they arrived to defeat discord.

 

And All of the Elements were in use. The Elements were passed on to Celly and Luna and their ability to handle two Elements showed a mastery of Harmony and Celestia and Luna ascended to Alicorns.

 

But again, this theory probably isn't true.

Makes a lot of sense actually. In fact some villains in the show are a corruption of an element.

 

Discord's laughter is harmful.

 

Chrysalis's appearances are lies.

 

Nightmare Moon betrayed the nation.
