Saronyx chuckles at Blaze without looking at him, "He's caused a lot of pain for friends of mine. You know Windy and Minty, you were roomed with them before, after all. I'm 'taking your fight', because I made it here first. Simple as that."

After hearing Saronyx's accusation of him raping Minty, Todd took several steps backwards in shock, his mind reeling as he fell onto his bed. However, as the changeling, Blaze was his name Todd believed, showed up, his mind slipped into gear and he recognized the name. Minty... Minty... the mare that Windy was nailing! Of COURSE Windy could convince her to claim he tried to rape her! He had been blacked out, after all, so he couldn't really defend himself legally. And, since it was only attempted rape, there wouldn't be any physical evidence... It WAS all a setup! This was just Windy meddling again, just like he had with that Librium vial at the game! Sitting up with a new found anger, Todd hopped off the bed and took up a defensive stance. "You're all just lying about this to help Runner! He and Minty are trying to get me in trouble just to get rid of me! I don't remember much of last night, but I KNOW I'd never try to r- rape anypony! The worst I did was probably get in a fight or two! You two have to believe me, Runner's playing you for fools!"

 

Changing to a fighting stance, his voice hardened, "But, if you don't believe me, I'm sure I can put up more than enough of a fight for you BOTH!"

Motioning Minty to come over, he held her hoof in his. "Well, I'm glad Saro is dishing out his idea of justice, but I'm not gonna dignify Todd with even a second of my thinking. What about you Minty? Minty gave Windy a reassuring smile. "I'm okay now.. besides, Todd just attempted to rape me, but that was when Saronyx came in. No big deal. I just couldn't stand the fighting, that's all. Thanks for trying to help though, but you need a bit of rest. It must've hurt to rip out all those tubes and needles," Minty said, pecking him on the forehead. "I guess I'll stay here.. I can't stand another second of Todd."

Saronyx lets Todd finish, but simply shakes his head, "Whether Windy's being truthful or not doesn't matter much to me right now, I've just really wanted to do this for a long time!"

He propels himself forward, using his wings to gain greater force.

Denim giggles, "Yeah, it does seem as little bit silly. But hey, maybe it's rubbing off on me? I mean, look who I'm with."

She kisses his chest after saying this, and chuckles, "You're my first, you know."

Royal chuckled. "Maybe some of it will leave me, that'd be nice."

Royal smiled when she kissed him, and he kissed the top of her forehead before he responded.

"I wish i could say the same of you." He sighed. "But..." He said, deciding it was awkward to end on that.

Denim snuggles a bit closer against him, "I can live with that. Just means you have more experience."

She looks up at Royal, "I'm glad to hear that."

Denim sighs contentedly and closes her eyes, speaking partially to herself, "I just feel so.. Safe, like this. I feel secure..."

 

The unicorn slowly takes another deep breath, and lets it out slowly, to calm the emotion creeping into her voice, "I could stay like this forever." She says, quieter than last time.

Royal smiled, hugging her tightly as he closed his own eyes, breathing slower. He felt tired, after being taken to the hospital, he hadn't rested, and his energy was leaving.

"I won't let anything happen to you." He whispered, but loud enough for her to hear. "Just stay with me..." He muttered, but quieter.

"Don't leave me alone..." He said it quietly, he didnt even know he said it, yet it was what he thought. Seconds after, royal slipped into sleep.

Todd's eyes dilated in fear when he realized that Saro and Blaze were still buying Runner's crap. Blaze's first swing took him by surprise, but he managed to remain on his hooves and block Saro's strike. Taking a defensive stance, he did his best to bob, weave, and block all the strikes raining down on him. But, he was tired and battered from the night before, and he had two skilled opponents who wanted to hurt him, so he was quickly decked. Rolling away from the two angry ponies, he pleaded on the floor. "Please, dudes! You've gotta believe me! Saro, you know I'm a jerk, sure, but I'd never, EVER try and rape anypony! Runner is lying! I mean, he poisoned me with Librium just to mess up the biggest game of my life in front of my father! He's out to get me, and he realized that the easiest way to take me out of the picture was to have his marefriend cry rape! Listen, I PROMISE that I'm innocent! I am not a nice stallion, I know, but Runner's manipulating you! He's worse than me, and he's the real bad pony here! Please, just leave me alone! I don't want to be your enemy!" he cried, cowing and covering his head and vitals with his hooves in an armadillo position.

Windy shrugged and laid back down in his bed. "It didn't really hurt; they've pumped me full of painkillers for my head. Thankfully that strike didn't re-injure my concussion spot. Although I have a question Minty, you must've known Todd was your new roommate, they always tell you those things, why did you go into that room? You didn't have to. Why did you?" Windy asked, slightly suspicious of Minty's feelings pertaining to Todd.

Minty hesitated. "I was a bit mad at you that day that you wanted me to listen to you about Chase.. I thought you were just jealous so I requested to the counselor that I move rooms.. I'm sorry. ." She says, teary eyed from cloud of guilt taking her over. "You hate me now, don't you?" She says, looking at Windy. "I hate myself."

Denim listens as he speaks, slowly drifting into sleep herself, "I'm not going to leave you.."

She responded, even though Royal was already asleep. She probably should have left the hospital now that he was asleep, considering the visitation period, but she didn't care right now. She didn't want the moment to end. If she was asked to leave... Well, she'd cross that bridge when she got there.

 

Denim's breathing slowed as she herself, drifted into the realm of sleep, still wrapped in Royal's embrace.

Saronyx shrugs, "Whether you're telling the truth, or if Windy's telling the truth, I don't care. All I remember seeing was Windy standing in the backyard of a frat house with a large gash in his head, and you at the bottom of some stairs."

He brings his head a few inches from Todd's staring him dead in the eyes, "I know about the Librium. There's a moral to all of this: You can't treat ponies the way you have, and expect nothing to happen. It will always come back around to bite you."

 

He watches as Blaze kicks Todd, but doesn't continue his own assault. He'd expected this to be a one-on-one between the two seniors (assuming Todd's a senior), and not a two-on-one. Despite his underhanded dealings in the past, the stallion still had a sense of honor.

Royal faded in and out of consciousness, occasionally being in sleep long enough to dream.

He dreamed of cards and ponies, of windy and minty.

He dreamed of denim.

Briefly, he woke up to see that it had gotten late, and denim was still with him. He reached over to cover her in his blankets as best he could without waking her.

He soon closed his eyes again, thinking of denim, and things to come.

When Denim awoke the next morning, she was greeted by a mixture of things. One, she was now partially user the covers, with Royal. Two, he was still asleep, at least he seemed to be. Three, they weren't alone in the room.

 

Denim sat up slightly, trying not to disturb her bedfellow, she glanced around the room. Seated in the chair she had occupied the day before, was a nurse. She had been reading a book when she noticed Denim waking up. She set it down, chuckling quietly, "Normally, I would've asked you to leave, but you two just looked so cute together. I'll let it slide, just this once."

 

Denim nods to her and smiles, "Thank you. My name's Denim."

 

The nurse smiles in return, "Sanatore. Nice to meet you."

Royal rustled in his sleep, taking a second to actually wake up. His eyes opened slowly, and he noticed he was facing away from denim. He lifted his body up, turning to see her and the nurse talking.

He rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up.

"Oh, hello." He said, mumbling. "Sleep well?" He joked. He nodded to the nurse in the corner.

Denim looks back over to Royal, smiling brightly at him, "Hello," if it hasn't been for Sanatore's presence, Denim probably would have kissed him there, "I did sleep well. What about you?"

 

 

Sanatore nods to Royal when he acknowledges her. She watches the couple with a smile, before standing up, taking her book under a wing, "I can see that you are doing fine," she says, mostly to Royal, "I'll give you two some time."

 

She says before trotting towards the door.

"I thought the hospital had visiting times." He laughed, brushing his mane back to find it was completely messed up. He pushed the thought from his mind.

"I slept well enough. Even with a facefull of mane." He chuckled, remembering he had slept like so.

Todd shivered, and struggled to his hooves again, blood streaming from several large gashes in his head. Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Todd put up his hooves to fight again. "So much for you wanting to help me! You as much as said you think Windy is a meathead and Minty is a whore! You obviously don't like them! What happened to the enemy of my enemy is my friend? I've never done anything bad to you Blaze! I kept your secret, I didn't judge you any differently for being a changeling!" Todd protested angrily as he traded blows with Blaze.

 

Fighting savagely, Todd brought the battle back to a deadlock, but he was dubious as to how long he could hold out; Blaze still seemed fresh and energetic, while Todd was panting and exhausted from the beatings he had gotten at yesterday's football debacle, last night, and the one Blaze had given him a few minutes ago.

 

Deciding to go a different avenue, he called over to Saro, while still fighting Blaze, "Listen, Saro, we were never friend, I know. And yeah, I've been a jerk to ponies, but I HAD to be! I had to be the top and the best for my father to even look my direction! I couldn't get anypony to respect and follow me by being nice, so I had to be a manipulative jerk! Please, get Blaze to back down! I never was mean to you two, ever! The three of us shouldn't have to be enemies!" he said, realizing the irony in what he was saying since he was punctuating it with kicks and punches aimed at Blaze.

Windy felt an immense wave of exasperation and frustration well up in him at Minty's words, but he pushed it down. "Luna above, why is she so dammed self-deprecating!? 'I hate me... You must hate me....' Sheesh, her dumping on herself constantly is getting reaaallyyy irritating! Easy Windy, you need to be comforting and patient and reassuring... You have no idea why her self-esteem is so low, and its not your place to judge."

 

After a moment's silence, Windy pulled Minty over and set her on the bed next to him, and wrapped his hooves around her in a warm embrace. After a few minutes of cuddling, he murmured, "Don't feel guilty. I don't hate you. I never could, and I never will. So don't you go hating yourself, ok?" he then pecked her on the cheek.

Saronyx sighs, stepping forward and between Todd and Blaze, taking the changeling's blows for himself. He places one hoof on Todd's chest, and smacks the other into Blaze, "That's enough!! Todd, you have a reason, but it's not the way to go about it! I don't know much about your life at home, but you're mislead. Celestia didn't gain our respect by being a 'manipulative jerk', did she? She was kind, and she has the respect of a nation."

 

He turns his attention to Blaze, "And just why the hell are you obligated to beat the crap outta Todd? You don't seem to like Windy or Minty very much. What did he do to you?"

Blaze responded by punching saro in the face and yelling not to touch him and stay out of this. Before swiftly turning to todd.

"You don't get it do you? Your father was a horrible man!" He said in a mocking voice. "All he ever thought about was business and how much he hated you! I took all that and now I have to burn it off." He took another swing. "And I know your being honest. I can tell. But that isn't important. Because you won't be alive to hear her apology!"

Todd's eyes narrowed. Reaching over into one of his bags, he pulled out an electric stun baton his father had insisted he always had at campus. Pointing it at Blaze, he yelled angrily, "Stop it Blaze! This isn't you; its the negative energy you siphoned from my father talking! You don't want to hurt either Saro or me! You want to hurt Windy!" Todd smiled internally; for once the school's gossip had provided him an ace in the hole. "I know you liked Minty Blaze! But that idiot Runner stole her from you! He's trying to walk in and run this school, and he views all of us as threats, so he's turning us against each other! United we stand, divided we fall! Now, are we going to play right into his hoof, or are we going to work together and fight the real enemy, that obnoxious soccer idiot!" he yelled, gesturing to both Saro and Blaze with the baton. "Now whose with me??"

As he watched Minty fall asleep in his hooves, Windy got drowsy too. As he drifted off to sleep, he realized happily that he would be discharged from the hospital soon and that he and Minty could soon move into Saro's apartment and everything would be fine....

Denim straightens out her scarf, chuckling, "Being cute can get you a lot of things."

 

She leans against him, "You know, maybe it did," she smiles, "It probably is a hint. I think you should listen to it."

Saronyx merely rubs his jaw after being punched, stepping from in between the two and hovering. Whatever happened next, he was prepared to fight or leave.

 

He raises an eyebrow at Todd when he draws the baton, "With words you offer alliance, but by hoof you offer war." He gestures to the baton with his head.

"You have an excuse to caorse the Changeling, but you haven't with me. There's a reason I chose to rent off my own place, and there's a reason I don't socialize to much. Avoid the spotlight, don't get caught up in the web of gossip."

 

The Pegasus drifts backwards on his wings, further from them, "What I'm curious about is, how does 'stealing' a girl constitute as attempting to run the school? It's life, really."
