(Following feedback and suggestions from friends and other experienced RP'ers, there have been several major and minor changes to this RP's setting, story and even "gameplay." @Steel Accord,  @Ano170, @00Pony)

The story so far...

The story takes place many years after the end of the series as we know it. Over the course of several years, ponies had been reporting strange and erratic behaviour that seemed to be linked to an unknown illness. These ponies lasted for months in this manner, with no cure in sight, until eventually the infected ones had to be sent away. Whole families ended up leaving Ponyville to find refuge in other cities and towns to find shelter from persecution in a now rightfully edgy Ponyville.

Apple Loosa, Manehatten, Vanhoover and Filly Delphia, every one of them eventually started to become afflicted with the illness until it began spreading at an uncontrollable rate, causing all contact with all cities to come to a complete halt.

Eventually, the ponies in Ponyville had to stop their allocated tasks in order to simply survive. While the Earth ponies where all busy trying to grow enough food to keep everypony alive, the Pegasi where frantically trying to balance the amount of water distribution to keep the land fertile without drowning it, and thanks to the closing of the weather factory, water was in somewhat limited supply. The unicorns where also busy researching into this madness, hoping to find a cure. All the while, the Everfree was growing...

Months of research went into this illness to find its cause and a cure, and eventually, in Canterlot, the cause was found. It was a surprising result, to say the least. An offbreed mutation of the Poison Joke that grows in the Everfree Forest and around its edges - the edges that had now been pushed into Ponyville! It seems that months and months of neglecting their duties does have other repercussions after all...

If only they had seen the signs...if only they hadn't taken the easy way out, we might just have avoided this...

______________________________

This will be yet another apocalypse style RP. The main overarching story has taken heavy inspiration from that of "The Last of Us." We have merely attempted to fit it into Equestria in the best possible way.(This is also not supposed to be a crossover, so to speak)

This does not mean that we will be using all the same concepts as the game, however. We have merely drawn inspiration from the story and concept. We are open to suggestions and new concepts along the way. (Say, if there's a particular type of zombie/infected you would like to add, for example.)

The Rules

(Credit goes to @Silverwisp the Bard for his amazing character design ideas for the following section)

No Alicorns.

No Mary Sue's

No Gary Stu's

Good grammar and punctuation are must

No Godmodding without permission

All the regular forum rules apply

Narrating in a third person past tense perspective would be preffered, but is not mandatory.

The game will consist of up to 6 players to begin with, each controlling their humanised representation of their OC's with the following stats.

Primary Stats:

Strength (S): Determines a characters sheer strength and how effectively they can manage their own body.

Toughness (T): Determines a characters resilience in combat and how much strain can be put on their bodies before they have to rest.

Dexterity (D): Determines how agile a character is and how fast they can steadily react to anything that may take them by surprise.

Intelligence (I): Determines how easily a character can read other NPC's/OC's, also applies a bonus to combat against other non-infected.

Willpower (W): Determines a characters will to go on, directly improving their stamina and bravery.

Secondary Stats:

Stamina: Higher stamina means that you will be able to take more strenuous actions before needing to rest.

Sneakiness: The higher your sneakiness, the more likely you are to sneak past groups of infected/survivors.

HP: The amount of injuries you can take before you are knocked unconscious or killed.

Melee: Your effectiveness in melee fighting

Range: Your effectiveness in ranged fighting

Scavenging

During the course of the RP, you will likely want to scavenge for weapons at some point. During these events, there are a short series of Dice Rolls you will need to perform. These are simple rolls and to avoid any possible cheating to find the best weapons, the DMs will be keeping a list elsewhere of the available scavenging weapons or materials.

(Note: You can scavenge for weapons at any time you wish, just simply announce it and roll)

The diceplay for scavenging should be as follows.

Roll a die for the item Category. (1-2 weapons / 3-6 supplies)

1-2 Roll a die for weapon size. (1-3 = small. 4-5 = Medium. 6 = Large/other)

Roll again to determine the weapon.

3-6 roll again to determine the type of item/supplies.

Main Rules

1) No Cheating

While we can't really prove otherwise, cheating is of little benefit in most situations, and will only serve to degrade your own RP experience. By making your character out to be a superman who never gets hurt and kills everything, you'll only ruin it for yourself in the long run.

2) DM's have the final say on everything

Pretty self-explanitory, if something is up for dispute, the DM's will settle it with their word. End of.

3) Roleplay over Diceplay

So we may be using dice to determine our outcomes, and we may not get what we want all the time, but just roll with it, that's the point! There's no point in participating in a RP if everything goes exactly how you want, there's no fun factor and there's nothing to keep you posting.

Combat and dice rolls

Melee Combat

Combat is going to be tricky to understand at first, so i'll do my best to explain it here in short enough detail to be interesting to read.

1) The character with the highest dexterity goes first.

2) Roll a single die, and add your melee and all modifiers. This is your attack value for that round.

3) The defending character rolls a die and does the same. If the attackers attack value is higher, the attack has landed successfully. If it is lower, it has been blocked and there is no further action.

4) Roll a second die, and add your strength. If your result is higher than the defenders toughness, they are wounded for 1 HP. If your strength is more than double, they take 2 damage, and so on - up to your weapon cap.

Ranged Combat

1) The attacking character fires a bow by rolling a die and adding their range stat. If the result is higher than 8, the shot hits and rolls continue.

2) Roll a second die, and add the characters weapon damage and any modifiers to the roll. If your result is higher than the defenders toughness, they are wounded for 1 HP. If your result is more than double, they take 2 damage, and so on.

Stamina

During combat and other strenuous actions, your stamina will deplete, meaning you will eventually tire and have to stop fighting/doing what it is you're doing until you've had a chance to rest. Should you run out of stamina during a fight, you automatically lose the fight if your opponent has at least one stamina left.

Stamina will deplete at a rate of one point per combat turn, and will not regenerate until your character has a chance to rest. (I wont go into specifics, but beating two infected in a fight and then sprinting away wont help.)

Sneaking

When you attempt to sneak past a group of hostiles, you must roll a dice to determine your success or failure.

Roll a die and add your sneakiness, adding or removing any modifiers.

If the number is greater than the amount of hostiles, the sneak is succesful.

If the number is lower than the amount of hostiles, the sneak has failed, and you're in trouble.

Character Creation

To create your characters stats and attributes, you will need to follow these steps carefully.

1) Choose your OC

2) Choose your stats

Easy enough, right?

Stats

Everyone starts off with the same stats:

S: 3 T: 3 D: 3 I: 3 W: 3

You are then allowed to allocate up to two points into stats of your choosing. (2 in total, not 2 in each stat)

Next, apply the modification of the species of your OC.

Griffon: +1 Dexterity, +1 strength

Earth Pony: +1 Strength, +1 toughness

Pegasus: +2 Dexterity

Unicorn: +1 Intelligence, +1 willpower

Diamond Dog: +1 toughness, +1 to any

Finally, you work out your secondary stats as followed. (Normal rules for rounding fractions applies)

(ST) Stamina = (T+W)

(SN) Sneakiness = (D+I)/2

(HP) Hitpoints = (S+T)/2

Melee = (S+D)/2

Range = (D+I)/2

Backgrounds

Choosing a background will set your character by giving them further stats or bonuses related to what kind of life they have lived and background they come from.

Life before the infection: Born in "simple" times when compared to the current situation, the character has had time to adapt as necessary to their new lifestyle, but their old habits still keep creeping in from time to time. (+1 intelligence, +1 willpower, -1 sneakiness)

Born and raised: Born during the infection and raised in a military zone, the character has become adept at sneaking about to avoid detection. (+1 sneakiness, +1 toughness, -1 willpower)

Bodybuilder: A regular gym-jockey, either during the infected times or before, the character can be found at the gym at almost any given time, building their bodies to impress the ladies. (+1 strength, +1 toughness, -1 intelligence)

Academic scholar: While not quite a born scientist, the character is about as close as you'll get to seeing one who isn't already swept up by the rebels. (+2 intelligence, -1 strength)

Mercenary: It's not often one like the character comes along, and even rarer that they stay to chat. Determined to get their jobs finished (for the right price), they'll do whatever it takes. (+1 willpower, +1 sneakiness, -1 dexterity)

Advantages and disadvantages

Select one of each only.

Advantages

Determination: Through sheer force of will, the character has the ability to summon up energy from seemingly nowhere, allowing them to fight for longer without tiring. +2 Stamina

Shadowmelder: As if a part of the darkness itself, the character has a much higher chance of sneaking around thanks to their unnatural ability to pick out the best hiding spots. +2 Sneakiness

Thick Skinned: Able to withstand serious injuries that would likely leave others crippled, the character just refuses to die. +2 HP

Like a truck: Having crazy strength doesn't just make you big, it makes you hit hard too. There's also a good chance that you may break a bone or two trying to block the characters hits. +1 to strength and melee

From a cloud: Characters who have trained in ranged combat are incredibly good at what they do - shooting things and making them fall down. +1 to all range rolls

Disadvantages

Just plain lazy: Living a life of "I'll wait for it to blow over" the character has become increasingly more lethargic over the course of time. -1 stamina

Sore thumb: Not everyone is born into being sneaky, and those who haven't been practicing may suffer when it comes to be required. -1 to sneaking rolls

Paper bag: The character bruises like a banana and frankly shouldn't be left alone with any form of sharp object -1 HP

Weapons

Weapons will play a large part of the combat in this RP. While you will start off with basic, and somewhat less than desirable weapons, by scavenging for equipment, you will be able to find much better equipment on the go, and you can leave the pizza cutter in the sink.

Essentially, weapons will be categorised into 4 groups. Small, Medium, Large, Ranged. In order to limit damage and make it so nopony gets killed in one hit, weapons will have a damage cap as follows:

Small - 2 HP

Medium - 3 HP

Large - 4 HP

Ranged - 2HP

Fighting with weapons is worked out exactly the same as fighting with hooves/fists. The only difference is that the weapons base power will act as a strength modifier for damage purposes. Maybe some weapons will even have a few more, elaborate enchantments...

Melee Weapons: (Note: All starting weapons have a base power of 1, and are categorised as "small")

Work hammer

Small kitchen knife

Wooden branch

Broken glass bottle

Rock on a rope

Ranged Weapons:

Small caliber pistol with limited ammunition

A makeshift blowdart, made from rolled up paper

A pocket full of small, yet sharp and heavy rocks

For the love of god I hope that's everything

So, if you're happy with all this, then please apply below with the following application form, and we'll start as soon as we can.

@@Agent505,

Is there any chance I could be a Diamond Dog? I would probably use the same stats as an Earth Pony. Or a minotaur would also work. I'd either use Earth Pony, or +2 strength for that. Of course, it's up to you whether I can do it or not.

Seriously though, I don't see any reason as to why you wouldn't be able to use a diamond dog really.

I don't see many diamond dogs in RPs, and all pony RPs generally tend to get boring quickly :3

I'm actually leaning towards a minotaur now. Is that okay, too?

Oh, and if you really want to add a minus to intelligence- and I realize that was a joke but for some reason I'm still saying this- I could probably work out something. I've played enough D&D to know how to balance out stat bonuses.

Good, I need someone to tell me what the hell i'm doing xD

I'm not sure about a minotaur. I don't think they would be overly fair. Iron Will was somewhat intelligent, as well as being ridiculously strong, probably physically tough too. I think the only thing that they would have a negative on would be dexterity due to sheer muscle size.

I would prefer a diamond dog to be honest.

@@Agent505,

Despite the fact that I'm one of Iron Will's biggest fans, I actually didn't think he was very intelligent, but now that I think about it, simply the fact that minotaurs have hands gives them a pretty big advantage, not to mention their size and strength. Shame I can't use Asteron, but I guess you have a point. I'll go Diamond Dog. My next post will contain a proper application.

Words

No worries about high strength, the way I see it, if there's anything wrong with the stats, it's my fault for not looking over them properly.

Welcome aboard! :)

HP Would be 5, and being about as sneaky as a bus should make up for brute strength I reckon.

Also, remind me not to get into a fight with your character. On average, rolling a 4 would be enough draw with the highest potential roll from others o.O

More words

I can't really accept without a character page, but i've RP'ed with you a lot before and I can trust you to not make an OP or broken character, so i'll make an exception. Let me know when you're happy with your stats and i'll write them down.

Alright, when I get back from college today (about ~7 hours from now) i'll post my character and get the RP started if CobraComando has posted his app too.

Yeah, I figured I'd just stick with having my character do one thing and do it well. So I'm pretty satisfied with the result. As long as he can solve all the party's problems by punching them in the face, I think he'll do just fine.

Indeed he will haha

Also, for anyone, I still need to add weapons into the rules, and I would like to add a few smaller details too.

If anyone could think of a good sneaking mechanic to keep the rolls fair, I would like to hear it.

I was originally planning on having a universal requirement, such as rolling a die and the result needing to be higher than 8. But that would be far too challenging for some players. (Alex's sneaking of 2, for example would require a 6 every time.)

I would also like to have an extra challenge for realism when it comes to sneaking. Past infected, every 2 or 3 would deduct one from the result, and for NPC's, every one directly nearby would take away one too. I'm not sure if that would be too much, but I would like to try and get it in, if we could think of a decent system.

(Alex's sneaking of 2, for example would require a 6 every time.)

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, my disadvantage combined with my sneak already being at two, means that I would add nothing to my roll, and therefor an eight is impossible. So is a seven. Not that it necessarily means it's a flawed system. But I would simply add in that anytime someone rolls a six, it should be an automatic success. Well, for things like sneaking, at least.

Also, you might want to look up the way skill checks work in D&D. Or in GURPS, if you want something that's exclusive to six-sided dice.

Are you serious?

We can't limit people to using only Equestrian races and then use something non-equestrian ourselves. I know we're supposed to be DM'ing this together, but I can't allow you to use a bugbear. You can use one of the already accepted races, or inquire about another, but I will not allow anything that is not from Equestria. I'm sorry, but that's the way it's going to be to maintain fair play across the board.
