Oekaki Section

Im not sure if this has been brought up in the past but I'm sure it would be a great addition to the site. Bronies are typically good artists, but even beginners would have fun with a site applet to mess around with in their free time.

It would help current artists grow and maybe inspire new people to try to draw. I even started my drawing hobby this way after being on a forum with an oekaki.

And we could have a best of this week function to showcase the best art.

This is a java applet which you could program into the site. Im sure the talented mods could do something like this. I hope you look into this. Thank you.

 

Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

First off...

 

The mods don't have a lot of time on their hands. With our tech chicken gone, we don't have time to program everything anymore. First, off, this is a forum about ponies, not chibi art.

 

The 'best of the week' function would take a load of time to program too. If the people who spend all day drawing in Octy's Hall want to draw chibi, then they can just go to ChibiPaint. And besides, Oekaki has absolute nothing to do with the forums or ponies, so frankly, this would take too much time to program and you could access it outside of the forums if it was implemented.

 

So not in favor of this idea, honestly.

I understand we are lacking on staff at the moment but maybe we could hold this project off until a later time, it doesnt need to be anytime soon. And the best of the week doesnt need to be done either. If it would be too hard to program in then it doesnt need to be done.

 

The program is called chibi painter, but you can draw anything on it, including ponies. With a fandom so into art I think would be a good idea for the forum to expand. I picked a program in which ive seen other forums use, and one that works quite well. I think it would really help mlpforums stand out in the crowd since i dont see many forums implementing this idea.

Here is a website that has put in the oekaki function. Most of it isnt chibi, unless the artist wants it to be. Also their website, I believe, has less to do with art than a fandom who constantly creates new forms of art every day. It added a lot to their forum and made them stand out even more than they previously had. It would be a fun and new experience to the forum.

 

Unless we don't want the change.

I think it would just be a pain to do. Besides, as I said, you can just download it. And why would we even need to download it? It has absolutely nothing to do with ponies. The chatroom and the minecraft server and many other things have been cancelled, and I doubt they want more on their plate. I didn't even know what oekaki was until this thread, and I doubt most others knew about it too. 

 

And besides...isn't this a forum to talk, roleplay, and get our art shot down shown? It is irrelevent and would just be a pain with the mods.

 

So as I said before, it would just be a burden on the mod's shoulders.

I think I speak for most of the tech team and staff of MLP Forums when I say this. (Sorry for repeating what you've already said Shift!)

 

This forum is for discussing and displaying art. Creating or implementing something of this nature really isn't necessary. If people want to use it they can use it elsewhere. MLP Forums isn't the only thing the mods and developers focus on, and we do still have lives!
