Blue Blood and his relation to Celestia

So we know that Blue Blood has been reffered to as Celestia's nephew, but if he is her biological nephew than it brings up some nagging questions. Does that mean Luna is Blue Blood's mother? Or does Celestia have another sibling? Why isn't Blue Blood an alicorn? Is he immortal or capable of living for a thousand years like Celestia? 

 

These questions, I think, are troublesome for the story to work around, and I think it is better to assume that the two are not biologically related. I can't confirm it, but as I understand Lauren Faust herself has said that Blue Blood and Celestia are not biologically related (again I don't have cofirmation of that), which is think is good and the right path to take. 

 

That leaves us with a few options. One, Prince Blue Blood is adopted and was raised in the castle by Celestia and other retainers. Or two, being a 'nephew' of the Princess is an honorific title of some sort.

I used to be in favor of 'nephew' as being an honor title, perhaps the equivalent of being a duke. But now I'm starting to like the idea of Blue Blood being adopted. My headcanon thinking here is that there might have been some prophecy surronding Blue Blood, and Celestia took him in so she could groom him to complete that prophecy. But perhaps the prophecy was misread, and Blue Blood just ended up being a spoiled brat.

My headcanon is that he's a distant descendant of the old unicorn royal family (like Princess Platinum from the Hearth's Warming Eve story) and that Blueblood has spread rumors or given the impression that he's related to Celestia in some way, since I imagine that'd fuel his ego.

I remember someone stated this headcanon before, but I don't remember where. Anyways, this is what they said and I like to think that it's true.

 

When Celestia and Luna came to the newly formed Equestria, they were crowned as Princesses. Since some unicorns were afraid of being stripped of their titles, they were made 'nephews' and 'nieces'. So I guess that the Blueblood family was one of those. This is not the complete headcanon, just what I remember of it.

I think that His family were really close to their family. but when the king and queen left and discord took over his ancestors lost their homes. when the princesses regained their parents throne they adopted his ancestors famlies.

@@Two-of-Hearts, Well, according to this here http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Prince_Blueblood , he is a far, but still biological relative of Celestia and Luna. I know I read the source once thanks to a link at Equestria Daily.  And before someone asks, Cadence is Celestia's adopted niece, that's at least what is written in the book "Twilight Sparkle and the Chrystal Heart Spell".

I think Blueblood is actually related to Celestia, just not as a straight up nephew. She's more like his great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great aunt, and even then, it's more like she's his 43rd cousin or something.

Blueblood is probably Celestia's nephew or just a royal blood relative in Celestia's family that Celestia did not know about until Celestia saw him at the Gala party. I'm not really going to go on that assumption but, I'll leave it at that.

I think he's a descendant of Princess Platinum, which is why he still is a Prince. Lauren Faust first intended him to be a Duke, actually, so maybe there is no exact explanation.
