Ink Drop had rolled for about five times already, he decided to stop since he was getting really dizzy, "Uh..." Ink grumbled, "I'm getting nausea, gah..." he said as he threw himself to the sand, Ink looked around that the whole group was making progress; more than before to be exact. But then he realized that Grand was somewhat troubled in doing the same thing. Ink waited for her, letting her to catch up with him. As soon as Ink was beside him, he tried to comfort her from the thoughts of bugs, "Maybe I shouldn't say about the scorpions or about the mud thing back at the cave." Ink said, apparently his intention was to apologize, "Actually, the fact is, scorpions only come out at night when it's cold, they won't be a problem right now." perhaps that should rid the thought of scorpions off of Grand's mind. "Just slide besides Zeta, since... you two... I mean... never mind that - bad choice of words." Ink left in a hurry, feeling a bit awkward and proceeded back to desert rolling.

"Well, i wanted to ask really, when you rushed out of the cave, it looked as though you were trying to avoid eye contact with me, if it's because i'm holding the group back, i'm sorry, i really am." Missy said. "Did i do something to offend you in some way?" Missy hadn't stopped racking her brain to figure out what was going on.

"What? rush out of... " she blushed. "Oh, no no, of course I'm not mad. I'm just ready to get out if this hellhole! I'm holding up the group more, I can't run with three legs very well" she said, smiling. She wasn't willing to tell her the real reason, it's was a selfish and foolish thought

Zeta saw that Grand was pretty much ignoring him, so he let out a little sigh and slowly fell far behind from the group. He was used to it in fact, since nopony really talked to him much but he still cared about everyone else.

Maybe he just wasn't good enough for the team, and was just someone who was being used..

Fire Horn went back to talking to Stephan. "He did give his life for you though, what were you two talking about beforehoof?"

Zeta didn't reply, and kept falling back little by little while looking at the ground. Right now was not the mood to be bothered with, unless it was a complete emergency. But eventually he decided to let out a few words and shook his head.

"Ok, just....you know....remember." Missy said, quieter than usual, Grand seemed to have something against her, Zeta wasn't willing to talk to her.

Zeta kept walking slowly along, almost like dragging himself across the hot sand. He looked up at the sun which was now fairly high up, and looked back down again thinking at what was going on.

He made a vow to protect everypony here, but were they taking advantage just to use him? But he didn't know fully so he had to find out.

A few minutes later, he gathered up the courage to ask. "Missy, come over here, please. I need to know something from you."

"My recent knowledge that i should be expecting to have another child, was, how should i put it? Shocking, to say the least, although i believe Grand has some kind of problem with me, it's best not to push any further until she feels ready to tell me." Missy thought.

Missy then heard Zeta ask her something.

"Yes, Zeta, what's wrong?" Missy said plainly as she walked over to Zeta.

Steel flew above Missy grand and zeta but he wasn't paying them anymind he was more focused on th letter and thinking about what it might say -I'll look at it when we rest- steel thought -maybe demonblood decided to give me some hope so I would keep chasing him-

He waited until Missy got next to him, just before speaking.

"Missy, you're one I can trust right now. I don't know why but you've always been that good leader with Fire, and I've just been a follower.."

Afterwards, Zeta paused for some moments. "But there's something else I want to ask... Missy.."

Missy was lost for an answer, she began cycling through the time that she'd known Zeta, an answer wasn't coming to mind, she couldn't think of a reason why.

"I'm sorry, Zeta, i don't know." Missy said, staring into his eyes and she starts tearing up. "I don't know why you're here, i'm really sorry." Missy felt like she'd failed Zeta, he trusted her and she failed.

Zeta noticed Missy's tears, and quickly wiped them away with a hoof before taking off his armor to give her a hug. "It's alright, no need to say you're sorry for anything. My life has been nothing but a hell hole for the past 19 years, and I deserve it all.."

 

He continued to hug her, rubbing her back gently with his hooves and made a little swaying motion back and forth. "If we need any sacrifice Missy, let me be the first one to go. I'm nothing now, and it will continue to be that way for as long as I live."

Missy appreciated the hug, but it was putting her slightly off-balance, though she decided to say nothing of it.

"Thank you for the re-assurance Zeta, but we're all friends, surely that means something to you?" Before Missy could wait for an answer, Grand appeared. "I'll leave you two to...talk." Missy hobbled away.

It's all me who is the bad one, and from time to time I have never realized it until now. Just like I told Missy, my life is nothing and it's all been caused by me."

"But, it's not nonsense. I know I've helped out all of you in the past and present, but I felt no reward from what I did. It never felt like I've tried hard enough, and I never have been.. I mean, look at Starlight. He died from me failing to protect him, even when I vowed to him and his family that they would make it through."

Zeta looked back down to the ground once again, letting tears roll off his face and down onto the dry sand. "I was made to be used, and nothing more then that.."

Missy looked back to see Zeta with tears rolling down his face, Missy wasn't used to being around ponies this much before, so she wasn't able to handle emotional issues very well.

"Listen. Zeta, look at all of the rest of us, this plague has taken away something from all of us, be it a sister, a wife, a son, we're all here together, because...." Missy paused for a moment and looked at her missing leg. "....because with all our fragmented pieces, we can make each other a whole again, that's why we need you here Zeta, you aren't just a pawn on a chess-board, not to us."

Missy looked back to see Zeta with tears rolling down his face, Missy wasn't used to being around ponies this much before, so she wasn't able to handle emotional issues very well.

"Yeah, well I am to me.." Zeta quietly spoke, but it was enough for both Grand and Missy to hear. "All I ever wanted, was a family.. A REAL family, and when I was just about to receive it, it.. It was all burned down... And then when I tried again 8 years ago, it too was burned down like a badly built wall.."

 

"I never could feel it again, not once where in my life that anything I did was good. Too much pain, too much suffering."

"Well..." Stephan began. "Before his untimely death, I was writing a letter to my father on Earth. He chimed in while I was writing the letter, and I told him about my past life on Earth." He explained. "He told me that once this was all over, he'd help me find a way to get back to Earth so I could maybe spend a little time with my family."
