"So, he died saving you, so you could live to see your family again." Fire said. "...and if Starburst wanted to help you return to your own world, then we're going to continue his wishes."

"Really? You'd do that for me?" Stephan's eyes watered and he gave Fire Horn friend hug. "You're awesome, Fire. You really are." He told him. "I don't want to go back to Earth forever, though. Equestria has pretty much become my new home. I want to be here and have more adventures, even after all of this. It's what I pretty much live for now. But, I just want to see my family again, so I can put their worries to rest..."

"Come on, Ghost, we're basically brothers by now, you know i'd do anything for you if it even had the slightest chance of making you happy." Fire said, extending his hoof for a bro-hoof.

The little peck on the cheek surprised him but he knew that it was just a symbol to let him know that everypony was with him the whole trip. After all, it would be wrong to love her, knowing that she has a husband and a baby on the way.

That left just Grand again, so he ran back and put his armor on before coming up to her.

"Hey Grand.. Is there anything that you would like to talk about with me? I'd like to make it worth your while, being out in the desert and all."

"To be completely honest, I've been talking far too much" she said tiredly. "I hope we can take a break soon, I'm exhausted" she said, hopping along. Her feet were beginning to get very sore. "But if you want to talk, I would love to" she says with a tired smile. "What do you want to talk about?"

"Anything really, like if you had to go through a series of traps to get to the shrine itself and whatnot." Replying back to her. He noticed that Grand's legs were getting quite weak in walking for so long, and thought of something.

"Um, Grand. Do you have any sort of rope I could use? I have some sort of idea that would benefit you."

"Rope? No I don't believe so... What would you be needing rope for?" She asked curiously. "Do you really think there will be boobytraps? I never thought something like that would be real. I thought it was just an old daring do sort of a thing" she said, thinking about the traps they might face

"Well, I wanted the rope to drag my armor along. You seem like you're struggling so I wanted you to hop on my back. Now I would let you get on the armor but it could give you a second degree burn in about 10 seconds so.."

But aside from that, he switched the conversation over to the shrine.

"Anyway, I do think there will be a decent bit of booby-traps. Besides, it's something that humans never wanted anyone else to get their hands on at the time so that was the only way. Interesting isn't it, but don't worry. I'll get you through alive and well by the time we get to the end."

Stephan bro-hoofed and his knuckles cracked in an unnatural way. "Ow!" He yelped. "I gotta remember; hooves are harder than hands." He chuckled and bandaged himself up. "Fire, coming out of the cave, Zeta told me I'm an essentiality to the group. Is that true? Am I really that important?" He asked. "I mean, I'm just a silly human. All I can do is run fast through dangerous ground. I'm not that strong and I don't think things through. I'm surprised you haven't chewed my butt about it right now."

"Hey, Stephan." Fire Horn said. "We both know you're more than a silly old human, you...are our silly old human, it's completely different." Fire Horn started laughing lightly.

 

Missy sat on the sand of the desert and started thinking, about those who've died, those she's killed. There was a vision which haunted her in her nightmares sometimes, a memory, lost to the currents of time.

 

"grey pegasus.....yellow.....mane.....very weird.....eyes"

 

That was all she could remember.

Stephan smiled and finished wrapping his hand. "Yeah, I guess I am." He said with a little laugh. He decided to change the subject. "Once we get to that shrine, I don't expect anything less than a trap that works like it was made by Discord himself." He said. "But, after all the hell we went through, I'm trying to think of it as some sort of final exam. A test of how much this outbreak has put on us."

He turned back around and looked to her, taking off his armor then tying the rope around his waist. Afterward he tied the rope to the armor and the helmet and dragged on.

"I guess it's your lucky day Grand. Go ahead and get on whenever, that is if you're not embarrassed from it."

Fire noticed that they were about to leave, Grand was getting on Zeta's back and they were going to head off.

"Right, come on then, we've got plenty of walking to do." Fire Horn said, turning around and noticing Missy seperated from everypony.

 

Fire Horn went round to the front of Missy, she was staring into the horizon.

"Missy! Hello?" Fire asked, Missy came out of what looked like a trance of some kind.

"Oh, sorry Fire, i was thinking about some things, that's all, come on, let's go." Missy got to her hooves with Fire's help and they started walking together.

Zeta managed to smile and giggle a little, but responded back. "Well i'm just trying to help out a pony in need, more or less. After all I could tell she was getting tired after four and a half hours of straight desert and since I can carry anypony, I picked Grand. Not to say everyone is less important then her but she has, you know.."

That was the truth why, but there was some hidden detail behind it as well.

If nopony is doing anything important, i'm going to skip to night-time.

Missy was now feeling the effects of sustaining 2 living beings in this harsh environment.
"Guys, we have to stop." Missy said.
"But we need to keep going." Fire argued.
"I don't care, we've been walking all day and i'm pregnant so i'm not budging right now." Missy sat down.
Knowing he'd been defeated, he sat down next to her. "Alright, we rest right now, i'll get a fire going somehow."

Stephan folded his arms and tried to argue. "But nighttime has fallen. It's much better walking through the desert at night. If we keep going, we could reach this shrine by morning." Stephan said. He didn't want to get that feeling of being confined again. He wanted to keep going and go all the way.

"Also, we haven't eaten anything in 9 and a half hours, i'd recommend stopping for at the very most half an hour to let everyone get their strength back." Fire said. "I want to get this over with as much as you do, but physical or mental injury should be avoided."

I think this us the first I've seen you so sad" she said, sitting down next to him and taking a drink. She was very relieved to be taking a break. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"
