The Trotting Dead RP

So. This is a tape recording I have left behind, if anypony chooses to hear this. Anypony alive, that is. Though that phrase is probably getting a bit outdated for now. Maybe I should choose my wording more correctly.

 

Oh yes, I'm straying off-topic already. It's a terrible habit of mine, rambling and such. Some ponies have criticized me for that. 

 

This recording will talk about the history of the Apocalypse, as I like to call it. A tragic event that has endangered the pony species, perhaps the whole world. Or rather, a "primary source" if you want to be technical. You'll be listening to the words of a survivor of the Apocalypse. 

 

As a (last) warning, I advise you to turn off this recording if you do not wish to hear the truth, nothing but the truth. 

 

I am Astrolabe, the renowned physicist from Asphodel, and one of the survivors during the terror of what I call the Apocalypse.

Before we proceed to my changed life during the Apocalypse, I might as well explain what happened before it. I find it strange surprising why even I chose to name it as such, when it was not the case. It was far from the end of the world, on the contrary. Even after the Apocalypse – I'm not sure if I should continue calling it that – there came yet another bloody episode, or really the aftershock of the "trotter" outbreak, that left a small percentage of the population exposed, defenseless, vulnerable to these terrors.

 

But I'm getting ahead of myself again. Moving on...

It all started with a morning cup of coffee. I prefer my coffee cold; I do not like it when my routine is broken. I must wake up within the range of six to six thirty in the morning, and after that, fold the bed-sheets, take a shower, comb my hair, and brush my teeth within twenty minutes. After that, I enjoy my breakfast, which should variate every day so that the same kind of breakfast is not eaten again within a week. The cold coffee is a constant, however, an exception.

 

That is my philosophy. Nature is bound to certain laws that even with our magic and power we can not brake, and I believe my personal life must too be bound by certain laws. I do not find it mundane or repetitive, as everypony else thinks. Do we not organize ourselves and talk and ponder every day?

 

Coffee, cold and black. Add milk and stir thoroughly for twenty or so seconds. Then add sugar; use approximately half a packet. Close it with a paper clip, or dispose it if it's already used. 

 

This Monday, I would be having some hay and cinnamon bread. Along with some apple slices. I initially wanted to go with a fritter, though I don't feel like purchasing any food today, as I have done that four days ago. Maybe tomorrow, I thought.

 

Then again, I didn't know what was going to happen tomorrow. No one knows. Things can strike you in an instant, and right there, your life is sent off a different path. Lesson learned: Don't leave things for tomorrow. Do it now.

 

But at that present time, I was eating my food with satisfaction. Maybe some tunes would enlighten me. Without hesitation I levitated a nearby record. It was designed for multi-purpose use, meaning it could work both of phonographs and electrical compact gramophones. It was still old regardless, made of a celluloid compound that could easily be scratched and damaged with the slightest displacement. Perhaps that was why ponies back then were so precise on everything, as one mistake could lead to an unfortunate outcome.

 

Oh, but I haven't mentioned a few facts about me, if you are becoming confused. I am a unicorn, as you can probably infer that to my usage of the word "levitate", and my high intelligence quotient, not to be a braggart, is partly the reason of my eidetic memory, or some of them like to refer as "photographic recall". And as I said, I work as a physicist, though I do work partly for the Heartland Institute of Science as a professor. 

 

So far, everything was organized and orderly. Nothing was out of place. I wasn't quite a perfectionist, though like the ponies from the olden times, I liked to have things precise. Exact. Accurate. In physics, you do not assume. You doubt everything unless proven a hundred percent right. You can only conclude from evidence. And you must consider the worst case scenario of everything until an aversion to that possibility can be proven.

 

At least, that was what I should have done. But you can't change the past, sadly.

"I'll be fine with her." Starburst looked down at Glint. "Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen, Caramel?"

 

"I'm not going to tell you where she is." Twilight said.
"Oh, you don't have to tell me, I'll find out on my own." Azrael said. "I always get my targets." Azrael pinned Twilight to the ground and raised a dagger up to kill her.

 

(This bit will have to wait for Stephan unfortunately.)

Grand smiled tiredly. "You two can take care if the baby for a few moments right? I need a quick break" she said before walking out of the room and outside. Suddenly she looked to her side to see Moon curled up in the snow. "Moon, whatever are you doing? You're going to get sick laying in the snow like that" she said, helping her up

 

Caramel smiled. "Yeah, she's fine. She's just really tired. She'll probably be awake soon

Moon just sat there crying continuously, not caring if Grand was there or not. But every few seconds or so she would mutter something like: "No one helped her... N-n-no, one.." Before bawling again. That other baby she had wrecked her life after it died, and after Missy's she couldn't get it out of her mind anymore.

A doctor came in, he did a scan on Starburst's lungs, the tumor was removed, and there was no signs of any cancerous cells.

"Here's some good news for you as well." The doctor said. "The cancer never got time to develop fully, so you weren't in any danger, but it was best that we removed it when we did, or it could've gotten a lot worse."

"So, does that mean I can go?" Starburst asked.

"No, you'll have to stay here a few more days." The doctor replied.

"A few more days?!" Starburst was shocked, he would probably spend a miserable birthday in a hospital bed.

Stephan jetted to Azrael and jetted into his claw, forcing him to let go of the knife.

"Let her go." Stephan said in a serious tone. A red aura surrounded Stephan's body. The aura was a sign that he upgraded to "Sonic Blasted Nova." He look down at the impaled Rainbow Dash and shed a tear. "Give up, or you can share the same fate as she did."

Azrael turned to Stephan and dropped Twilight. She ran to Rainbow Dash.

"Oh, so nice of you to join us, Stephan, is it?" Azrael asked in a sarcastic tone. "I always get my targets, there's nothing you can do to stop me."

 

Dash was still conscious, but barely.

Twilight managed to pull the spear out and use a stasis spell, but it would only last for half an hour.

"Kill him, so we can get out of here." Twilight said.

Stephan simply smirked at the griffon.

"You seem pretty overconfident, like me." He said. "But, do you honestly think you can catch your target as easily as you say you can kill them?" Stephan began to jet around in a blur. Since he activated his Sonic Blasted Nova aura, he was much faster and stronger, but he could easily be caught off-guard. Before Azrael could even think about it, the stallion appeared in front of him and sent a skull-crushing blow to his head, hoping that'd bring him down.

Grand sighed and sat down next to her. "You need to focus on the good. Think of Sirius, think of all of us. We are here to support you. I'm terribly sorry for your tragic loss, but please come inside, you'll get sick out here"

 

Caramel grabbed Starbursts hoof. "Don't worry, you're gonna have an awesome birthday, no matter what"

Azrael fell, he was dead. The hit had crushed his skull.
"Stephan, we have to get her back to Ponyville, she's not going to live much longer, even while in stasis, she's just going to slowly bleed out." Twilight said, looking up at Stephan, tears streaming down her face.

 

Starburst smiled at that.
"Thank you, doctor." Starburst said. He nodded and left, then turned to Caramel. "Could you find me a wheel-chair or something, I want to visit my mum."

Missy opened her eyes to a blank hospital room, she felt depressed, so she closed her eyes again.

Steel had secretly followed twilight and the others he was saying what on a cloud watching Stephan fight azrael he planned to wait till Stephan killed him then he would take the bassist body to the Griffin kingdom and clam whatever bounty was on his head

Stephan went out of the Sonic Blast aura and put Rainbow Dash into his front legs while continuing to walk on his hind legs. He then looked down at the dying Dash.

"You'll be okay, Rainbow Dash. I'll make sure that you are." He then proceeded to jet back to Ponyville while carrying Dash.

Moon shook her head a little bit, sticking her face in between her legs and sobbed some more. "No, just, leave me here... I'm a terrible mother, bringing a child into this world just to die shortly after. Don't you see, it's so horrible, because it's a life, a life!!"

Then she cried louder, trying to get away from Grand but couldn't move.

Grand stood up. "I'm not leaving until I get you somewhere warm. Can you at least let me bring you back to my house?" She asked warmly. "I hope you know that there was nothing you could have done. The blame is on no one"

 

Caramel nodded and grabbed a wheelchair. She helped him into it. "I'm sure your mom will be happy to see you"

"This'll take too long!" Twilight said, running after Stephan, and diving into him and using a teleportation spell to take them to Ponyville.

They appeared in an instant, a strong flash and a bang.

"Get her to the hospital." Twilight yelled.

 

"Thank you, Caramel." Starburst was still holding Glint, she was surprisingly quiet. Though she was still breathing. There was a bang and a sharp flash outside. "Caramel? What was that?"

Steel didn't wait once he seen him fall he collected the body and out woron his back and prepared for the flight to the griffon kingdom "now let's set what kind of bounty was on your head"steel said "if what iv heard is correct I'll be living the dream" steel said to himself

Stephan jetted into the hospital and took her to the paramedics.

"Help her! Now!" Stephan yelled. The doctors then took RD, put her on a stretcher, and took her into the ER. Stephan was then filled with worry. If she died, it would've been partially his fault, and he'd have to live with it for the rest of his life.

Grand stood up. "I'm not leaving until I get you somewhere warm. Can you at least let me bring you back to my house?" She asked warmly. "I hope you know that there was nothing you could have done. The blame is on no one"

 

Caramel nodded and grabbed a wheelchair. She helped him into it. "I'm sure your mom will be happy to see you"

"I, I.. I know, b-but.." She stuttered a bit before looking up at Grand. "I.. Guess you're.. Right. But, but.. Grand, please... What do I need to do, to stop this from h-h-haunting me..?"

Meanwhile, Moon slowly stood up and struggled to stay, from her weak legs. She was right in many ways, even if she wasn't a mother yet."

Caramel looked. "I don't know, should we go see?" She asked, hoping the baby didn't get startled from the sound

 

Grand smiled. "Time. You just have to tell yourself it wasn't your fault and eventually you'll believe yourself. Sometimes it takes a long time, took me just shy of eight years"

Meanwhile, Moon followed Grand back to the front door of the house, still whimpering. "What, what do you mean.. Just shy of, eight years? What happened then..?" She said shyly, looking down to the ground even if she couldn't see anything there. But even so, she took into consideration what Grand said and lightly smiled.

"I don't know, but we'd better get Glint back to my mum, she's getting a little restless." Starburst said.

 

Twilight ran into the hospital.

"Sugarcube, what's goin' on?" Applejack asked.

"Rainbow got impaled by Azrael, she could die." Twilight said.

 

Fire ran in too, along with Pinkie.

"Hey guys, why so glum?" Pinkie asked.

"That assassin guy, Pinkie, Rainbow could be dead in a few hours." Twilight responded, still crying.

Pinkie gasped and her hair fell flat and she hugged Fire and began crying too.

"Well it's not relevant now, but nine years ago, back when those wretched corpses were still around, we came across caramel who had been one of those... Things. It nearly killed me, but eventually I forgave myself. And I hope you'll do the same"

 

Caramel nodded. "Sure thing, I'll take you there" she said, wheeling him along. "Here we are!" She said, lightly knocking on the door

"Well it's not relevant now, but nine years ago, back when those wretched corpses were still around, we came across caramel who had been one of those... Things. It nearly killed me, but eventually I forgave myself. And I hope you'll do the same"

 

Caramel nodded. "Sure thing, I'll take you there" she said, wheeling him along. "Here we are!" She said, lightly knocking on the door

"You.." She became silent for a long while, but eventually shook her head and looked back up. "Caramel, was.. She was, a trotter? But, but.. She's alive now. My baby, she's.. I mean, I know that if your little sister, if she died being a trotter it would be the same.. But mine is gone forever.."

 Stephan folded his arms and lowered his head. His heart began to sink into his chest. He knew Rainbow Dash ever since he fell into Equestria when he was seventeen. He began to walk away from the others and headed upstairs.

"I want to be with her... in case she doesn't make it." He then proceeded to trot upstairs.

"Mum, how are you feeling?" Starburst asked, entering the room.

"I'm good, I see you've met your little sister." Missy said, taking Glint into her hooves.

"Yes, she's perfect, in every way."

 

Everypony was huddled together, hugs were being given all around.
Fire ran to Missy's room.

"Dad, what's wrong?" Starburst asked.

"It's Rainbow,  she got injured by the assassin, it could be fatal." Fire replied.

 

They had done all they could for Rainbow Dash, but it wasn't enough.

"She's not conscious." The doctor told Stephan. "If you believe in the theory that those in this state can hear outside voices, then see her. If you have anything you want to say to her, now's the time to say it. She won't be with us much longer." The doctor lowered his head and walked out the room.

Stephan walked to the dying Rainbow Dash and placed his hoof to her's.

"Rainbow Dash... I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I can't believe I let you die like this." Stephan said in a sad tone. "Remember when we were teenagers, and we used to date for the matter of three weeks. Well, I wanted you to know. before you go out, I've loved you ever since. You're smart, passionate, adventurous, and an awesome mare. It just isn't fair that you have to go out like this." Stephan quickly activated the Sonic Blast aura. "So, I guess it's now or never..." Stephan leaned in and kissed her with passion. It truely felt supersonic. It was an experience he wished he could have many more times. But, it seemed as if he couldn't. He then let go of Rainbow Dash and teared up. "Rest in peace, Dash... old friend..." He then turned his back and began to walk out the room.
