Haters When Gaming or On The Internet - W/ Screenshots

MLPForums Phanact

Recommended Posts

Typically, when I game, I'm there to play the game, not to argue over something trivial like me liking ponies or something like that, and instead I prefer to tell people calling me out for being a brony to shut up and play the game too rather than focusing so much on one person. I am one person out of 24 players on a server. There are 22 other people for you to focus on. No, fuck that, there's an entire game for you to focus on. Your team's victory depends on you too.

Although, that being said, I don't get a whole lot of hate when playing online and other players treat me like a normal human being, as my logic dictates to me that I should talk about the game and strategize with my team rather than something completely unrelated like MLP. Many a round has gone by in TF2 and Chivalry without a single other player calling me out and trying to insult me.

This.

I understand what people mean when they say "use the hate and throw it right back at them by pwning them" but what if I don't want to be aggressive about it? What if I don't want to pwn anything, and I just want to play? I'm not a competitive person, I like to play competitive games in the spirit of fun and camaraderie and friendly competition. I don't see why it has to become the ego-stroking match it inevitably becomes.

I'm just tired of having to be on the defensive at all times. I would really like to just be at peace and be who I am (like everyone else who has "acceptable" interests) without having to constantly be on my toes or actively ignoring someone (which isn't ignoring, IMO) or coming up with ways to "dish it back out". I don't want a fight, I don't want to be better, I just want to be on the same level as everyone else.

Why's everything always gotta be a grudge match? Why does someone always have to walk away a winner or a loser? It's a game, it means nothing, it's a glorified toy. Can't we just have fun without getting angry or exacting revenge or shouting to the other guy "YOU JUST GOT OWNED BY A BRONY! IN UR FACE!" It doesn't make me feel any better about anything, and it certainly didn't make the hater hate any less.

I realise that I'm preaching the impossible here, which is why I choose to simply avoid the grief altogether and avoid online gaming like the plague.

The only problem is with people saying they avoid "online gaming" is that they shouldn't have too, nor should I. I love to game on my PC and try to get the best experience with the hardware I've spent thousands of pounds on so I can't just turn around and say "right, I'm leaving forever" because then I have a massive brick on my desk which has no use.

I agree that I hate everything being made in to a grudge match where people just insult each other but it's usually just when tensions fly and my team mates or the other team are looking for an excuse as to why they're losing and it's usually "look at that faggot brony."

I don't want to act like that so I won't be doing the whole "hate them back" because like I've said, I just want to make my friends happy and I want them to like me but the original screenshot was what my "friends" said, not random people on the internet, my friends.

Must just be my experiences with Classic Competitive, Jailbreak and Minigames on CS:GO then. All the time, people comment on it, insult me for it.

At least in my case, that's opening another can of worms as most games these days which are multiplayer just aren't worth playing to begin with because of how bad they are. I'm all for the PS4 over the Xbone, but I'm even considering not getting a PS4 if the games aren't really worth much. I'd only consider it for Tekken but I'm not gonna buy a whole system for just one game.

I'm actually about to purchase a pre-owned slim PS3 just to play The Last Of Us. Other than that, I'm a complete and utter PC gamer. What is annoying me is the fact I moved away from Xbox Live because of all the insulting and shit I used to get and I chose PC because I kept reading how it is "the glorious master race where everyone respects each other" and I've learnt very quickly that PC gamer's are less respectful to others than PS3 and Xbox gamers combined.

I've honestly gotten more compliments than insults while gaming. I haven't tried Counter-Strike yet, but based on my experiences in both TF2 and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the communities in both games are very willing to cooperate and formulate strategies with me, even though they should be calling me out for being "the fucking brony". I mean, my name on Steam right now is Ferler Twerlerght Sperkl and my avatar on Steam is the same as here, but yet I've gotten more "Nice!" and "Thanks bro!" than "Fuck you you fucking brony scum go die in a pit" from my teammates. There was even this one Medic in a capture points game a few days ago that kept pocketing me and giving me advice, and he wasn't even a brony.

It's very weird tbh and I wish other bronies were as lucky as me in games, but hey, might as well not complain and keep gaming on.

That right there to me is a dead giveaway. People who show so much pride toward their product speaks volumes about the sort of people you'd encounter online.

This is so true.

The second paragraph is exactly what happens. I try to keep it so there's no racism, homophobia, sexism etc. but then when I start to ban members or kick them from the server I get told that I need to stop being so conservative with this subjects. Its like, WTF, why advertise yourself as a friendly community D:

I've unfortunately seen this a lot. One creepypasta forum I was on(the forums for Creepypasta.com, in fact) got so bad in general that 90% if the active accounts were trolls and sock puppets going at it. The owner ended just not paying the sever bill and letting it dye quietly without so much as a goodbye, It reached a point she got a legal threat from someone because a user took it so far and she was being held responsible for owning the site.

It's sadly common on some less mature sites for everyone to look the other way if it's a regular breaking the rules.

That's ridiculous. It's such a shame though that humans just make presumptions about other humans based on nothing more than a TV show.

Also, I try to strictly follow the rules that the community I admin for has set out and I give a little bit of leeway in the form of one verbal warning. If you break the rules again I usually give out a ban for about 30 minutes and I get called a "Nazi" for doing it. There are a few other admins that are also given the name of "Nazi" for literally donig nothing more than there job and it disgusts me.

There are three "Me's"

Brony Me.

Gamer Me.

IRL Me.

The only time these overlap is when it would be especially awesome. Seriously, arguing with some troll in just about any game, wiping the floor with them and finishing the game with 'Oh by the way, you just got your arse handed to you by a brony.' is one of the best ways to get people to nerdrage ever.

Do I actually think thats something to be ashamed of? Of course not! Do they? Oh yes, and their tears are so, so sweet...

I'd pack it up, Sounds like the kind of place I wouldn't be hanging around in.

On another note, if anyone is into game collecting and such, Rfgeneration is a pretty nice forum(if not the most active in the world). I've been active there about four years and enjoy it.

Oh yeah. Adding onto that example of a non-brony helping me out in a capture points game, in that same game I said "Remember. Teamwork is magic." in team chat, a fairly obvious reference to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and instead of my team going "wtf dude why do you like those stupid ponies?" they put more effort into working together as a team and trying to stop the inevitable. We still lost that round, but we won the next.

I am quite open with my life as I feel that I should never have anything to hide from anyone so if people question me about this then I am completely honest with my answer. I'm not the kind of person who goes around shouting "LOOK AT ME, I LIKE PONIEZ AND AJ IS BESTPONY OMGZ" at random people but a quick glance at my steam profile and my Steam Group tag (MLP Forums) on games gives away who I am.

Just like you, I'm not ashamed and my usual end of game winning sentence is "Learn 2 Pony Plz"

I play online all the time most the time I find bronys.. and those that are not bronys have no idea what the fuck my name means but freak out when they found out I'm not a chick, PrincesCelestia.. its xboxlive I only got 15 letters to work with so. It shouldn't be life though. No one gets hate for watching Adventure Time or The Regular Show which is also a children's show. I don't care about general haters I find whilst gaming but the OP was actually stuff my long time internet friends said to me, I've known them for about 12 months.

I'd pack it up, Sounds like the kind of place I wouldn't be hanging around in.

But then I have no where else to go. I talk to these people all the time and I just want them to get over the fact I'm a brony but apparently I'm a "pedophile" and a "freak." ): I just want to be friends with these people, is that so much to ask?

I'm going to have a look at RFGeneration as I do actually collect steam games (: 183 and counting

To tell the truth, I gave up hope of ever finding a decent human being in online gaming matches years ago. Ethnic and sexual slurs have been present in PvP games for as long as I can remember, so let's be honest, players with rainbow-colored ponies as their avatars only present a whole new target for assholes with pent-up aggressions to call [insert various homophobic epithets].

It's this exact bullshit, combined with elitist attitudes, that has deterred me from ever getting into the online multiplayer scene. It seems to be the very purpose of these ponies to suck all the fun out of games, so even if there are quite a few decent and friendly players to be found, those rotten few will do their damndest to ruin the experience for everypony who's just there trying to have fun.

The only way I can see this complete lack of respect waning is to have mods listening into every match, booting out those who use hate speech in any form (a well-deserved "time out" for men who conduct themselves as children), but I could easily see people bitching about such a system being "fascist" or "Nazi" or whatever other term they wish to ignorantly misuse. Not to mention, that'd be a pretty shitty job to have, moderating a cesspool of sexism, homophobia and racism. Not exactly my dream job, I can tell you that right now.

Your right those shows don't get as much hate as MLP does, but the bottom line is they cant take it away from us can they... no, no they cant so let them hate, let them waste so much time and energy on hating on us and when they are doing that we can sit back a laugh are ass's off and tell them don't you look silly!

@,

I don't hide being Brony online or IRL, I pretty much do as you do: If it comes up, so be it, if not - no reason to shout about it.

Unless it would by really awesome. ;)

Anywho, online gaming... I don't think it's hate towards Bronies sadly - It's the fact that 95% of online gamers have the mental capacity of a lettuce and will happily use anything they can as an insult. Bronies are just a really easy target for the stupid. I see this a lot when I play a battleground in WoW:

"Your a f@+#07!!! NOooOb!!! You SuCCK! Go Learn 2 play N0000b!!!1!"

Thats actually a very tame statement... Unfortunately I believe that the problem is more widespread than just Brony-ism, the world is breeding idiots and the Internet allows them to be idiots together.

Star Wars The Old Republic is the only game I have spent a significant amount of time on online so I haven't witnessed brony bashing on their but I have seen some other unsavory things on occasion there. I don't think drawing attention to them is going to accomplish anything as they feed on attention even if that attention is negative.

I HAVE NEVER LAUGHED AT A PHRASE AS MUCH AS I HAVE LAUGHED AT THAT ONE (The one that's bolded and italicized, I know you're not stupid but I'm just making this clear XD) <3

It only seems to be specific targets though. Lesbians are just gawped at by male gamers and from what I've seen are hated by the majority of other female gamers and younger male gamers. Women get a lot of sexist remarks made about them if they game. Gays are hated, Muslims are considered terrorists by all, Jews probably get it the worse because most people consider calling someone a jew to be common terminology (which disgusts me) and there are probably many more. I know Bronies don't get it the worse but to be called a "pedophile" by about 4 people, publicly, for liking a TV show is just ridiculous.

Simple.

  1. Be polite
  2. Be efficient
  3. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

But really, all I do is just play the game, formulate strategies with my team and recommend what to do at certain choke points to try to impede the enemy team's progress and don't bring up ponies even if there are other bronies on the servers. I've actually risked being banned from some MLP servers for telling other bronies to shut up about ponies and play the game instead, but of course none of the bans ever went through because I'll be honest with you, banning someone for wanting to play the game is a pretty stupid reason to ban someone.

I don't bring it up. I usually just respond if people question me about it but like you, I tend to focus on the game but I find it difficult when my friends are joining up with random people on the internet to slate me and claim I'm a "freaky pedophile". I didn't realize there were actually servers for MLP fans, not on CS:GO at least!

@,

I consider myself a Lyrical Wordsmith. :P

Nah, I know exactly what you mean. As I said, I think it seems a lot worse for Bronies because they are an easy target: Rather than being able to conclude real targets for their stupidity they latch onto things that are different from how mommy and daddy told them they had to be, and remember, that means war, sports and violence for males!

(I say males because, in all honesty, if a girl mentioned that she was a Brony, the concept would probably rupture something in these peoples minds. Also, no offense to folks who are not the kind of idiots I'm talking about who appreciate war, sports and violence, it was a quick generalization to make my point.)

In actual society people have to watch what they say. On the Internet though, your free to spout whatever verbal diarrhea comes into your head. Sadly, a lot of people now have access to the Internet who are indoctrinated by their various societies into being brain-dead morons.

There are in TF2.

And maybe I'm just luckier than other bronies are. It's honestly been so long since I was last insulted for being a brony I don't remember when. I've even killed and dominated people with "brony killer" or some variation thereof in their names, laughed irl because the prey dominated the predator, and the so-called "brony killer" never brought up a flag about it.

I get it's frustrating, but I learn to ignore them, honestly. It's their opinion, and wether it's harmful or not, it shouldn't change who you are. Regardless if their opinion is stupid or invalid, there is no point in trying to question it. Simply move on.

Honestly I believe people who hate on others are just as bad as those who are willing to complain about haters anyways.

Why create a forum about haters when the fact is it isn't going to stop hate, your giving them the attention they crave. In a way were a hater of haters.
